Harmonic Balancer time?

2001 C5 Corvette 60,000 Miles

Is it time fellas? Bought it 2 years ago with 54k miles and the harmonic balancer didn’t have no wobble whatsoever. Figured I check it out since I haven’t been driving it lately. And I see some play but I could be wrong.

What do you guys think?

Any mechanic in Los Angeles that any of you guys had a good experience with (for my future reference) — I went to J&D Corvette in Bellflower for minor work and they’re really expensive. I cannot imagine what a job like this what make them charge.

Changed the trans fluid on my 150k mile c5 and now it started slipping

I just got this automatic corvette with a 4l60e a month ago and decided to do basic maintenance on the car so I changed the trans fluid, put a new gasket and filter in. The fluid had been changed before as it had an aftermarket filter on it. I filled the car up to the correct level and now driving it, it slips in 3 gear whether it’s trying to down shift or up shift into 3rd gear at high rpm. Anything I can do to save this transmission or is it over?

Z06 Titanium exhaust crooked on Base C5

Hello everyone, I installed a Z06 exhaust on my base C5 and noticed that the right tips sit slowly lower then the left. I tried unbolting it and tightening it at an angle with the same result. Any advice for better fitment? I know titanium is delicate and don't want to force it into place.

sounds on cold start?

Hey guys, my car makes a couple of odd noises every cold start. video attached so you can hear exactly what I mean.

Exhaust: Installed an aftermarket borla exhaust I bought off Facebook Marketplace, but I can’t match it to anything on Borla’s actual website, so not sure what it really is. Ran fine for the first few weeks, but now it makes noise only on cold start. The exhaust is two pieces bolted together, so maybe something there was loose? It was tricky trying to bolt them all up evenly when i installed it. Planning to retighten everything, but wanted to see if that sounds like the right call or if I’m missing something.

Front-end squeak: Also cold-start only, comes from the front of the car. Already ruled out idler pulley, bearing, tensioner, and both belts (all replaced recently), squeak is still there. You can also here this in the video. Goes away after a few minutes.

Any input on either issue is appreciated, happy to answer questions.

Factory original rear sway end links replaced

'03 Convertible. Bought a couple months ago with 33k miles. It has pent a lot of time parked. A lot of work has been done since to fix engine vibrations/wobble, replace magnaride with B6 shocks, paint problems, and the messed up Bose audio system, but now time for this. Symptoms.... some clunks when backing out of the driveway especially when wheels turned tight and uneven pavement stressing the structure, and a little rear end movement under hard accel. Also excessive tramlining from the front end. A little more body lean than I would expect from a corvette. It smacked of loose suspension, tired suspension. Not in the joints themselves, under inspection they all seem tight... but I was thinking that all of the bushings would need to be replaced. But to begin, I started with low hanging fruit. End links are notorious for clunking sounds.... so I replaced the 23 year old aluminum factory original rear sway end links with aftermarket Delphi’s made of steel. Oem are a little lighter but pricey! The OEM pieces were not obviously blown out. But they were effortless and floppy to move with the hand. Slow movement revealed areas in the ball socket where I could feel resistance. They were worn. New ones are tight. Which makes a difference. So the results? Huge! Flatter handling. No more little clunks. Rear end is planted. Cured 80%+ of the tramlining. Braking is even better. Car feels, dare I say, new! I mean wow! No more clunks and loosness!! Oh and since I had the wheels off I detailed the rear rotors with black ceramic brake paint. Even the rotors are 23 year old factory original but still look great and they work well. Now that I have experienced the profound improvement on the rear suspension, the front end links are next.

Coolant drain for knock sensor job

To remove the intake manifold and get to the knock sensors, do you have to drain coolant and if so how much of it? Just 5 quarts or will I have to flush the whole system?

Blower fan issue

I have a ’97 C5 that suddenly stopped blowing any air. The blower motor isn’t moving at all, regardless of the fan speed.

I reset the #37 blower relay and the fan actually started working briefly. However, once I unplugged/reinstalled the relay, it stopped working again.

I’ve already ordered a new blower motor, but I’m not convinced that’s the problem since I’m not getting power at the blower motor connector.

What should I check next? Any common issues with the blower circuit on these cars that I should look into?

Water pump possibly caused p0442 code?

I've been having a p0442 code pop up about once a week, sometimes even 2-3 times a week for close to a year now, but I've always kinda ignored it because I heard it wasn't that big of a deal. Recently my water pump completely locked up and stopped spinning at all. Luckily it happened in my garage and I replaced it the same day. This was about 3 weeks ago now, and since I've replaced it I haven't received the engine light a single time, nor have I smelt gas at all when idling, which used to occasionally happen. I guess I'm asking if there's any reason that a water pump could have caused this engine code? I'm assuming my water pump has been struggling along for a while now and I never even noticed. I daily drive the car and haven't really had many issues besides this. Is there something along the belt loop that could have caused the code from the belt running a little slower or from increased tension from the water pump or anything? Genuinely just confused about this and wondering if maybe it's just a coincidence.

For sure buy at 7k? 2000, 6mt, 128k clean title

Guy said he just need to put in a battery after it’s been in storgage, has a crack in the targa and drivers seat is a little beat which is why it’s a lower price.

Update - guy said new battery was out in but isn’t running, has it lowered to 4K, could still be a good deal for someone but I’m moving in 2 days

PPE and your Vette

I was thinking about a light paint correction and PPE on front half of my 03 50th until I received a quote for $2400 out the door. The Corvette is in overall really nice shape but only paying 19k for the car i just feel the money would be better spent else where. If it was a 200k + supercar id do it for sure! What do ya all think?

New wheels

I finally got the new wheels mounted onto the C5. They’re a discontinued GM Accessories wheel option for the C6 that I had powder coated a dark gunmetal. I did have to install longer wheel studs to install them safely with the wheel spacers. Easy enough on the front hubs, but the rear hubs required a bit of disassembly.

need some help from a knowledgeable c5 owner

going to cut this down as shortly as i can but still going to be a long post. i am stumped and am now learning that the issue at hand is either above my paygrade or something that i am grossly overlooking. for starters i have a 1997 c5 corvette. about 6 months ago i pulled the car apart to build the motor and paint it. cam, heads, longtubes, intake, valvetrain etc. while the car was apart i found a good deal on a manual rear end out of a wrecked 02 car. so did that while the car was apart, swapped everything in, did all the wiring and everything there works fine. my issue at hand comes with trying to get the car tuned and running correctly. i started the car up fresh off the cam and it idled, rough, but it idled, ran just fine, great oil pressure, all of the above. i was stoked. i had some more work to do but just wanted to hear some progress. so took headers, intake, a couple other things off to do some more work, wiring, exhaust etc. now were going to flash a little forward. every time ive started the car since that point, it has backfiring insanely loud, has been running (seemingly) rich, and just will not run right, to make a long story short, got injectors, not that, comp test passes with flying colors, 220+ all cylinders (220+ is high for ls, its because of the cam specs) regardless the #s are consistient. it has spark, has good injectors, header had burned a little off the o2 plug the first time i started it and i thought it was fine, but just in case, spliced a new pigtail in and got new bosch o2s. has been thru 4 sets of plugs and fouled all of them out super super fast. my main issue is that currently 2 is misfiring non stop, acting as a dead hole, and the car will not idle. itll run if i pedal it but as soon as i let go it pops and dies. still backfiring some here and there but not as much since my tuner has had a look at it. he says 2 is showing a dead hole misfire and no one and figure out why. it has been comp tested, spark tested, brand new deka 80 injectors, new plugs, etc. took off valve covers, verified pushrod length and that intake and exhaust valves were moving fine, they were. i am stumped. only thing i can think to do next is leakdown test. these heads i bought off a mentor that i am almost certain are in good condition. he also happens to be my tuner and is my ex shop teacher and my best friends dad. he is notorious in our area for being THE ls guy/tuner and knows his stuff. has been busy and hasnt really had a chance to come take a look and i also dont want to be a bother. heads came pre springed with matching beehive springs to my cam and got brand new rockers, lifters, pushrods, etc, and properly installed. the one thing i cant get past is how it idled just fine the first startup and any time after that its been a backfiring mess and will not idle. i pulled the wire off cyl 2 while it was running and it ran the exact same as it was before i pulled the wire. essentially proving cyl 2 is a dead hole. at this point im thinking leakdown, harness to injector or coil, even though its getting spark. not sure man, could really use some advice from someone who knows a little more than me.

Rfa module?

Hi guys, I was wondering. Anyone know where the hell I can get one? Or mine repaired? Also the plastic housing on mine quite literally shattered after staring at it for a few seconds when I thought about pulling it out.

Also what’s the best way to test to see if it still functions properly? Mine won’t take keys. Not sure why but no codes outside of my hardwired fan.
