Great to see this sub active again! Here's mine at a car show on Hollywood Boulevard this past Sunday.
Was at the track with my 02 base on Saturday and started having electrical issues I’ve never experienced. I’ll add this because it may be relevant-In the past, I’ve intermittently had the gauge cluster/hud just decide to not work a couple times that didn’t last very long, so never thought much of it. The chassis grounds were cleaned by previous owner 4 years ago and the ones i can easily see look clean. Came back to my car after the drivers meeting to see the DRLs on, but oddly the switch was off. As I’m staging on grid for first session, i get charging system on fault on DIC but as voltage came back up seemed to resolve itself (i do have a pretty new optima redtop battery and mechman 170 alternator which I’ve tracked the car with without issues) Everything fine until later in second session. I had a cracked plug wire that gave me blinking CEL- fixed that and thought i was good. Next session starts, i get abs/traction control faults. I could clear them on DIC but they came back. I did get communication faults, but i don’t believe the abs module failed because radio stopped working along with this problem. I did drive the car home 110 miles without issue. Ask these codes were H the next day and none were C. Radio worked again.
Now, my assumption through Google that most likely culprit is faulty/dirty ignition switch. I’ve since ordered new GM ignition switch through advance auto as to avoid possible fake ones on Amazon, and I’ll clean all the grounds. I guess what I’m looking for here is if anybody has had very similar situation and what resolved it. Any insight or advice on what else i should be looking for would be appreciated and thanks for reading such a long winded post.
So happy to join a new community! Here’s my ‘99 garage queen with 77k! 🎉
My 2004 Magnetic Red 2 Vert. Brand new with Nitto G2 tires, 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 tires.
I'm in Alabama near Birmingham and I've been looking for a manual c5 with a big preference for post 2001 models, I would honestly prefer a base coup over a z06 but I'd be happy to find a good deal on either. I've been checking all the common sites and there just doesn't seem to be any near me.
I tried to meet a guy off marketplace half way but he ended up not making it at the time we agreed on and after that I just didn't feel great about buying it. Is there somewhere I'm missing that I should be checking? I feel like I'm fighting a loosing battle but I really don't want to give up on owning a C5.
Just sharing some pics of my 1998 C5, I've had it over 12 years now. Bought it about a month after my 22nd Birthday. It was 100% bone stock and I've modded it throughout the years. I live in South Louisiana and hurricane Ida hit in 2021. I was very fortunate my car didn't suffer major damage. The hood, rear fenders, and windshield were damaged and needed replacement. This is how she currently sits. Still love it and plan on keeping it for as long as possible.
Curious to know what tires you are running, and why.
I have Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 all seasons that I bought while fixing up the car. There is nothing that I particularly like about them, but they grip up fine in the rain. Ride is comfortable. Needed tires quickly and this was one of the cheaper options my mechanic's supplier had at the time. I won't be seeking these tires out again, but I'm not entirely disappointed either.
Personal opinion here, when seeing other gen corvettes, I always get a kick out of doing a headlight flip, I think it’s superior to the “Jeep wave” and respects the C2-C5 generations. What do you guys do when you see other vettes? Love the tight community of constant waves and appreciation of all generations. All corvettes matter!
Can any one direct me or a link to buy a solenoid starter wire replacement tried doing it myself but can't find any thing for the ls 1 it's an 2004 automatic if that helps.
It’s also a salvage title, because why not baby a car with a hard life?
I bought it mostly stock about 3 years ago with 164k miles. Since then I’ve lowered it on the stock bolts, painted the halo and targa black, added hood vents, Corbeau Evo X seats, new steering wheel, etc. after these pics were taken, I also tinted all the lights.
Last winter I tore down the top of the engine and did CNC ported 243 heads, Tick SNS stage 2 cam, TSP long tubes, Ti Z06 exhaust, and freshened up a bunch of stuff like pulleys, lifters, balancer, etc. She dynoed 446whp/443tq.
Yes it flew off. its arctic white
I wanted to give my car some unique characteristics and the Concept 841 header and exhaust system certainly did that. I love the sound, but I know a lot of people do not.
Looking to get it on the dyno soon to see what it picked up over my old long tubes and 2.5" exhaust.
I vividly remember the very first C5 I saw as a 8 year old child in 1997! That very moment the hook was set and I knew no matter what I had to have one when I grew up. Fast forward to September 9, 2023 and I bought my dream car! A one owner special ordered ‘98 in Artic White with a Firethorn interior only to wreck it and total it out exactly 1 week later on September 16th due to a freak accident involving bad tires. Lucky for me State Farm was awesome to deal with and I quickly got a 2nd chance. I bought my current Torch red ‘99 October 7, 2023 with 21,194 original miles. Today it has a little over 80,000 miles on it. Everytime I look at it and drive it I feel like a 8 year old kid all over again!
The goal of this thread is to share what we spend on maintenance and repairs. For those that want to know some of the costs associated with a C5, this is the place to look.

Awesome to see this sub get revived! Here are some pics of my C5 at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA
"What have you done to it?"
All of it. There's very little original left on this car. LS3 swap, rebuilt torque tube, rebuilt/improved transmission, coilovers, spherical bushings, crashed the fuck out of it at the track a few years ago and rebuilt as a widebody, and a bunch more.
