Hi , I designed a new Batsuit 🦇,. I would like to hear your thoughts about it
Homecoming Stark Suit Redesign
Nothing too drastic, as I still wanted the essence of the suit design to still be there
Changes:
-Removed random point from torso black strip
-removed black strip from forearm
-made the bottom of the torso black strip printed to better match the top and make it more streamlined
-added small webwings
-changed the logo to the new MCU Spidey logo
Evolution of Wonder Woman’s classic costume
Something that I’ve been fascinated by is how wonder woman’s outfit has changed since her creation, specifically with how artists and writers have tried to reinterpret the bottoms of her costume as times have changed. That might sound strange but the bottoms of wonder woman’s costume have always been THE aspect of her design that a lot of creators really try to reinvent with the times, more so than any other superhero costume. If you look at a character like Superman, there might be periodic changes but the suit always returns to the classic Superman design; red trunks included.
In Wonder Woman’s first appearance, she wore a cloth skirt. The skirt definitely feels like a design choice that fit the fashion treads/norms of the time. It also feels like this was during that stage that every iconic character went through where the creators were still figuring out the character.
During many of the early issues of Wonder Woman’s first solo run, she wore these spandex shorts. I think the shorts are actually pretty cool. They’re a fun and simple twist on her design that I’m surprised hasn’t been used more in other runs and adaptations. I think the only adaptation I’ve seen that uses the shorts was in Justice Society: World War II.
In the 1970s, Diana’s costume got one of its most important redesigns in her history. This is when her costume got its iconic “swimsuit” design. This was a seminal design for Diana and it’s easily the one that stuck around. It was eventually refined and perfected by other artists over the years like George Perez. To this day, a lot of people picture this costume in their head whenever they think of Wonder Woman. Its iconic status was cemented because it was used in most future runs of the comics, the 70s Wonder Woman show, the super friends cartoon, the DCAU, etc.
In 2010, Jim Lee wanted to update the design by giving her pants. He also gave her a dark leather jacket. A lot of people really didn’t like this design since it didn’t feel like Wonder Woman. The design lost a lot of what makes her costume so identifiable.
In 2016, DC introduced the armored skirt design. This is the design that is still being used for Diana to this day, including in the DCEU. Personally, I really like the battle skirt. It feels like a happy medium between the pants/shorts and the iconic swimsuit design.
This is an elseworld’s version of Wonder Woman but it’s so popular and I love it so much, I’d be disappointed in myself if I didn’t talk about it. In 2024, DC introduced Absolute Wonder Woman as part of their absolute universe line. In this version, wonder woman’s costume is mostly red and black instead of the traditional red and blue. The interesting thing about this one is that she wears a ragged dark skirt or cloth around her waist with red pants underneath.
