Talk to your unions, and talk to your local State representatives.

My question is for those working closely with Secretary Macomber, closely with those in the legislature, and most importantly, the UNIONS, in the unlikely event that you see this.

Regarding Secretary's statement:

“This is a challenging budget year for the state, and every department is being asked to operate more efficiently. CDCR and CCHCS will be carefully managing resources, holding some headquarters positions vacant, identifying savings and making thoughtful decisions to address future budget reductions while maintaining our commitment to public safety and essential operations."

The governor keeps cutting our budget and our legislature even questions why we continue to go over budget despite cuts and closures. Why is no one stepping up and explaining that what they are demanding is contradictory?

They say CDCR needs to focus more on rehabilitation programs and prepare inmates for life after release. But what our law makers can't seem to comprehend is that, that requires staff. You can't increase programs and reduce staff/safety/security. Inmates are waiting years for some classes, due to cuts... but somehow, that's CDCRs fault.

They say CDCR keeps going over budget, but keep paying out litigation, settlements, etc. They keep creating laws that require costly operational upgrades, but don't factor that into when discussing budget the following year.

They say CDCR has a responsibility to keep inmates safe, but put officers under investigation for UOF, even within policy.

I've sat in on groups where even the inmates say that the department has fallen too far, where they're understaffed, over capacity, and have ineffective rehabilitation programs.

Why isn't the CDCR executive team speaking on this? Why aren't your unions, especially CCPOA, standing up for you and protecting your pay and safety? They should be demanding more transparency (and literacy) from our law makers and the media who put officers in danger with their misleading reporting. BU6: You guys have a voice--demand that someone listens.

Nametags

Has anyone got a hold of the academy store? I’m trying to call them for the name tag and it’s not on the list of the paper that they told us to fax. Is there any place we can get the name tags?

Flexibility

Hey all, once you’re out of the academy and assigned to an institution, how much flexibility is there realistically with scheduling? For context, I have a family and my wife travels occasionally for work. How flexible are institutions with their employees? I imagine it varies by institution.

Continuous bidding policy

Has anyone heard of this?
So continuous bidding is every month. Per the MOU it states:

d. Subsequent to the initial bid, an otherwise eligible officer may participate in the continuous bid
process up to six (6) times during the bid period. Conditional bids count toward this limit. Bids
due to deactivations or changes to a post’s RDOs or start/stop times shall not count towards this
cap. Bids due to removal for cause, Ten Percent Rule or adverse actions shall only be counted
against the cap for a maximum of two (2) bids.

Previously, I won a bid but was debating on waiving it. I contacted my union rep and asked if waiving it would still count towards the 6. I was told NO, waiving it just cancels it out like you never even bidded. I was told that once you win a bid, start the assignment that counts as one. So I ended up waiving it and stayed in my previously winning bid assignment.

They put my current assigned post up for bid. I emailed them and said it was wrong that I didn’t give up my post or get any winning bids which would give up this current assignment.

Per my ATM, they are telling me that since I waived the bid I technically no longer have an assignment post (the current one that I am in, that I won from a previous monthly bid) but they are keeping me in my post as a courtesy.

The new bid results came out and it shows someone won my assigned post for this current bid.

I haven’t read anywhere in policy that states that you give up your post even if you waive your bid.

Any insight?

Thank You.

Pay stub

Hello, I’m currently getting paper checks and finally deciding to switch over to direct deposit. I usually am a hoarder for paperwork and realize I’m missing my last two pay stubs, cal connect won’t let me download them but I can view it. If I went to my accounts office at my institution would they print a backup for me or do I have to contact someone else?

Thank you.

Hey everyone have a question. If I called out on Friday and get held over on Sunday. Does that turn into straight time? I know it does if you get held first and then call out. But does it work vise versa? Thanks

Commute to SQ

Does anyone here commute from Stockton to San Quentin? If so, how early do you typically leave before your shift, and what’s the longest your commute has taken with traffic or accidents?

I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect and how much extra time I should give myself. Any advice or tips from those who make a similar commute would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼
