High altitude 5% grade up and down on a CRF300L
Hey Folks,
Looking for the lightweight unicorn bike that doesn't exist. Probably going to get a CRF300l non rally and modify it. I will mostly be riding around town or below 50mph, and main purpose is trails. For long trips it will be on the back of my truck or van.
My question is has anyone taken their 300 up and over mountain passes like Teton? It's 8400 at the top and a 5% grade on one side, 10% on the other side. I'm only asking because gas prices are so bad these days it would be nice to save if I need to commute over the pass.
I have ridden passes like this on a T700 and F800GS, but never on a smaller bike. Does it engine brake okay? Will I end up smoking the brakes or red lining up and down every day?
Pic of when teton pass collapsed for attention. I drove over it like 2 days before that picture. Whew.
