Why the library escalator can't be used as stairs

I always see people complaining about how they close off the escalator instead of using it as stairs here's some reasons why:

The steps of an escalator are bigger than usual making it more likely to trip
If you do trip you fall on hard metal steps with sharp edges
Even more your will fall all the way to the bottom as there's no landing part way up to catch you like the normal stairs next to it.
Some cheap escalators have cheap af parking brakes and could fail if there's someone on every step, Vertasium has a good video on this
It has to be unoccupied for if TKE ever shows up and they sometimes need to leave the access hatches open

Calc II vs Calc III

Is Calc II really as bad as people say it is? I've heard that Calc III is easier than Calc II and it is a good idea to try to avoid Calc II it if possible.

I think I was just scammed?

Suggested more accurate title: someone claiming to be cpp finance said i owe money and I'm not convinced

Never thought i would make this post. Attended fall 2023 and that was it. Out of the blue, two years later in 2026, i get an email from student accounting and cashiering informing me i owe $1300. So I called them to try and figure out where the charge was coming from.

Spoke with jackie nadesa, who told me the cost was from housing and meal plan for spring 2024. I wasnt living in california in 2024. At all.

I asked for documentation and she told me she'd email it to me in a couple days. A couple weeks go by with no email (not in spam and i have no one blocked), so I leave a voicemail asking what the deal is.

Tried calling them today and theyve blocked my number and, presumably, sent me to collections. All because i asked if they could prove i owed them $1300. I wouldve happily paid them if they could show i actually owed them anything, but clearly they cant.

Is this a scam? What do I even do in this situation? The whole thing seems fishy

New engineering student team wins 2nd place at international competition!

A newly formed Cal Poly Pomona engineering student team made an impressive debut on the international stage, earning second place in their division at the 2026 Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) World Championship. The competition was held during June 23–28 in St. John's, Canada, and brought together more than 80 teams from 18 countries.

Over the 2025–26 academic year, the team designed and built an underwater ROV equipped with cameras, object-detection software, thrusters, and tools for manipulating objects underwater. At the competition, students piloted their ROV through a series of underwater missions that simulated real-world ocean operations, including navigating the vehicle around obstacles, retrieving and manipulating objects, and completing tasks using onboard sensors. The team also presented a professional marketing pitch for their design to industry experts.

In addition to their second place overall finish, the team also won the best technical documentation award, and Lauren McLaury won an individual award for her performance during the marketing pitch.

I accompanied the students to the competition and it was really impressive to see what they were able to accomplish.

Missing classes but showing up for test

So I have to retake a class this fall, but I commute, and I don’t think it’s in my best interest to drive to campus just for one class every other day (it’s on Mondays and Wednesdays).

I already have classes on Thursdays and Fridays. Friday is a 3-hour lab that I have to attend, and Thursday I have both a lab and a regular class.
Do you guys think professors would care if I didn’t come to the Monday/Wednesday class as long as attendance isn’t mandatory? Would it be worth explaining that it’s the only class I’m taking on those days and that, financially, commuting just for that one class isn’t ideal? I still have to take it because it’s a prerequisite that unlocks a lot of the other classes on my flowchart.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did your professor respond?

Early morning carpool from Hawthorne next fall?

Does anyone else want to carpool to CPP next fall? I have an 8am class on M/W/F and 11am classes on T/Th.

I've been taking the train and bus, but 3 hours each way is too much for me.

ChemE research

Hello, I’m a sophomore ChemE student, and was wondering if any professors took sophomores to join their research projects?

I am interested in energy, if that helps! I would love to gain experience, but I don’t know where to start looking. Thanks!

TW DV: Professor thought I was lying

Title/refer to some other posts on my profile

I told my professors, most were considerate and I am eternally grateful for them, I will never forget their kindness for that.

One, not so much. I told him and unlike the other professors, I got a one sentence reply. No resources to reach out to, no asking if I would like to report, no asking if I am in a safe space, just a sentence saying he will add points for everyone (I asked for patience, just understanding, not to add points to my exam). I missed 3 weeks of class because it got bad — I ended up in the ER from a dispute (police made a report on their own accord, due to the severity)

I showed up on the last day and he looked at me with pure disappointment, I have never seen a professor look at me like that before (this professor has always been nice, he was my favorite actually). He tends to look down on those who miss class, I thought I was an exception because of my circumstances, but he valued attendance more than wellbeing I guess. The last couple of weeks had me hanging on by a string, I was at my lowest from the few weeks I went through.

I felt ashamed and humiliated, part of me wants to report him, and part of me doesn’t want him to get in trouble. What do I do? Am I overreacting?
