Holiday Party Locations

Hello! I’m planning my companies winter holiday party and on the hunt for a great location.

Last year we bought out Water Tower Kitchen in Campbell and are looking for locations with a vibe.

We will have about 170 guests, all adults and aiming for a Friday in early December.

Flood me with ideas!

4AM at Denny’s

I just wanted to share something that happened to me tonight because I’m honestly still shocked in a good way.

After work I was insanely hungry and went to Denny’s on Bascom around 4 AM. Ate my food, chilled for a bit, then left and drove home.

About 10 minutes later, I got out of my car and realized my wallet was gone.

My heart DROPPED instantly.

I started checking everywhere, then called the Denny’s thinking: “Yeah… my money is definitely gone.” My entire weekly paycheck was inside that wallet. Honestly, I expected to at least get my ID and driver’s license back, but I thought the cash would be gone for sure.

The employee answered and told me:
“Yeah, you left your wallet here. The guy sitting in front of you noticed it and handed it to us.”

And now that I think about it… my wallet was sitting in such an easy spot to take. It was low near the register where literally anyone walking up to pay could’ve just reached down 2–3 inches, slipped it into their pocket in one second, and walked out. Nobody would’ve noticed anything.

Taking it would’ve honestly been easier than doing the right thing.

But this guy still chose honesty.

I drove back expecting the wallet to be empty.

Not a single dollar was missing.

Everything was still there down to the last cent.

So whoever you are - random guy at Denny’s around 4 AM in the Campbell/San Jose area thank you, seriously. You probably saved me from one of the worst weeks ever financially and mentally.

People always talk about how the world is full of bad people, scammers, thieves, etc. But tonight reminded me there are still genuinely honest and good-hearted people out there.

You’re honestly a real one, brother. The kind of upbringing and character you must have to do something like that when it would’ve been so easy not to… seriously, much respect to you.

I’m incredibly grateful to God and to that man for what happened tonight.

Campbell, CA, gas appliance ban

Here's info from an email I got a short while ago:

Campbell Resident,

The City of Campbell will consider pursuing a mandate that would require the retrofitting of existing homes to be all-electric as part of their "Climate Action Plan" this evening at their 7 P.M. City Council meeting.

Their staff says that the feedback they have received from the community has indicated the "highest community support."  We actually took a photo of the Council Meeting documents because we could not believe what we were reading.  Note the 2 stars next to the retrofit of homes and the corresponding meaning:

https://preview.redd.it/x7s2xud3d52h1.png?width=1302&format=png&auto=webp&s=21882532a4f03e945746ffb1bb575a380b6991ee

To the contrary, we know that true community sentiment about being mandated to retrofit existing homes to all-electric in Campbell is extremely negative.  Most Campbell homes were built in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s and are approaching their maximum electrical capacity, requiring conversion at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars.

Please email the Campbell City Council immediately to express your opposition to mandated home electrification, which will just add to our already high cost of living.

District 3 Daniel Furtado - danf@campbellca.gov

Silicon valley south bay people, where are you getting your AHA BLS and ACLS renewed in campbell or nearby

Healthcare worker based in campbell and trying to find the most convenient option for renewing both my BLS and ACLS. the south bay has plenty of options but quality and format vary a lot. specifically interested in whether the american heart association self guided learning format is available in the campbell area and whether anyone has used it for ACLS specifically since the written component for ACLS is more involved than BLS.

Is the roundabout in the Pruneyard a roundabout?

I'm talking about the roundabout that's across from Asian Box in the Pruneyard.

If the road was orthogonal to the circumference, it would be a roundabout, and the rule would be, "Those in the roundabout have right of way over those entering the roundabout".

But the roads on either side of it are tangential to the circumference, thus it would seem that, "Cars entering from the bigger road and going straight have right of way over cars entering from the smaller road, i.e., the roundabout".

Latest email from Campbell Village Association

This is the latest email from the Campbell village Association. Please note that I did not write this email just sharing what was sent out.

State Legislators need a pause on any new housing legislation
Several Cities in Santa Clara County are writing to CA State Assembly Speaker of the House, Honorable Robert Rivas, respectfully requesting the leadership consider a temporary pause on the passage of any new housing legislation while the Legislature undertakes a comprehensive review of the significant body of housing laws enacted in recent years. Cities are asking to examine what is working and what is not within our existing statutory framework. Campbell’s Mayor Dan Furtado has signed to support this effort.

Write your State Senator and Assembly member
Ask for their support to pause any new housing legislation and to extend the implementation of SB79 until a comprehenisve review is completed.

PLEASE! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
We need quality affordable workforce housing
And
We need to preserve Campbell’s small town charm

Why a pause in new legislation?
It has been way too much, way too fast, with way too many unknown consequences.

Campbell embraced their 6thcycle Regional Housing Number Allocation (RHNA) of 2,977 new units by 2031. The City’s Housing element identified locations for 4,000 units. Campbell has a Pro-housing designation.

In the State passing the rapid fire of bills over the past years, SB9, SB10, SB330 and now SB 79, the State as said – oh, we really didn’t mean 2.977, you need to provide 40,409 units.

Campbell cannot handle doubling the population by 2031

I am not a NIMBY or a YIMBY, I am a MIMBY – Maybe in my backyard
Is it housing just for housing sake or is it quality affordable work force housing?
What are the impacts of all this housing?

What is Campbell’s Carrying Capacity?
What can our systems handle? When do we hit our capacity?
For example, all utilities supply lines have a capacity – what is the cost to double their capacity with double the population? I was on city council during the discussions of the 6th housing cycle. I sat in Valley Water meetings where all the cities were asking- where is all the water going to come from? They said, fear not, there will be enough water. A year later Valley Water told the same cities – Opps, we didn’t tell you what it is going to cost, we have to raise water rates, a lot.

Quality of life issues
You get a home, but….. you may not have much else
Schools need to re-open or still be built. Parks & Open Space – we already don’t provide enough.
Community Center - currently $42million in maintenance costs – we need a new facility. Public Services – how many more police and fire fighters will be needed? Campbell spent 8 years building a building that will now need to double in size. City hall is at capacity and is in serious need of repair. What about other City Services – more staff, more services. How is the City going to pay for all of this?

We are creating a new sub-class of people being told you can NOT have a car!
All these state housing regulations have a common theme – You low income people must take public transit to live in an affordable home.! You people get a house, but you can NOT have a car. Developers tell legislator’s providing parking costs too much. So, You low income people won’t have a place to park your car. You will be forced to take public transit. The State’s housing laws basically say - don’t worry the train comes on a regular frequent schedule.

But, there is NO legal nexus, no legal binding connection, that states VTA has to maintain a train schedule or even have the train stop, nothing mandating the bus line or the frequency of the stop. There is nothing that legally requires VTA to adhere to the promises of public transit that are used as justification for the massive housing. History speaks for itself. In 2000, due to the dot-com bust, VTA’s existing revenue sources declined and was forced to cut service and increase fares. In 2003 VTA contemplated service reductions to address its budget problems, instead, VTA changed routes.

What happens if VTA has budget cuts again and they provide only one morning and one evening train? Picture your morning where your kid can’t find their homework and you end up missing the train by 5 minutes, then what?

PLEASE!  ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !
Write you State Legislators asking for a pause on any new housing legislation

Pruneyard this afternoon, at 4 pm, with the drive through area near Peet's & play area, open again.

There were 2 security guys in the area (one was behind the sign).

Typically, I would have walked in the area, now that is the street, freely. The whole time I was there, about 5 cars drove through.

Looking for roofer also willing to repair dry rot/patio

Small home, with a tiny porch that is part of the roof job. The patio may need to be completely replaced. Some of the rafter tails and fascia may also have dry rot and we will need new gutters. We have a few bids but few seem interested in tackling the dry rot or the patio.

Volunteer or Attend together in Campbell's Boogie Music Festival this weekend

So you may have heard that Campbell is holding its 46th Boogie Music Festival this coming weekend, for 2 days in downtown campbell.

Something unique this year is there will be a dedicated DJ stage, and there will also be a Battle of the Bands on Sunday.

People always talk about the difficulty to make connections in the valley, Man Jose, lol. Music festival is a great occasion to make friends, especially by volunteering together. So I am organizing a social and volunteering meetup for the festival, tomorrow afternoon.

So far there are about 40+ people signed up, from different sources. Of course not everybody would show up.

  • The idea is that we will meet around noon time.
  • Do some ice breaking, then some would go do their volunteer shifts, some would stay and enjoy the festival, do some group based activity.
  • There could be an after shift regroup at late afternoon.

No, you don't need to volunteer to attend this festival social, your show up is already a support. For backgrounds, most of the signups are working professionals in the valley.

If you are interested, you can check out the info below. It also contains the link to sign up festival volunteering. The ticket booth tomorrow afternoon still has openings.

High energy Labrador training needed

I have a very high energy 4.5 month old female labrador. Pretty decent inside home. But once outside: leash pulling, over excited seeing people/other dogs. It's possible we didn't get her to socialize enough. We took her to a 1 hour puppy class while vaccinations were ongoing, and another one now where bigger dogs are there.

Any suggestions on what we can do to get her to be civilization-ready? A little worried now, but we know we're still early stage in her life and can fix this.

Brunch spot for large group?

I have some relative visiting next month. Looking to take them out for brunch. It'd be like 12-15 of us all together. Any recommendations for a good brunch spot in town that can accommodate a group this large? Ideally looking for non national chain places; so like no Denny's or IHOP.

Thanks in advance.

Police helicopter chase

Does anyone know what just happened? About 10 minutes ago helicopter flying low with sirens and what sounds like a car chase near St Lucy’s and Avalon Campbell apartments? Loud scary but can’t see anything. Please let us know if there’s any news reports or anything from police.

What's been up with the Creekside Way light when coming off of 17 NB Hamilton exit?

I take this exit to get home and recently in the last few weeks have been noticing that the light will literally stay on for less than 5-10 seconds only letting maybe 3 or 4 cars coming off of 17 through at best. Anyone else notice this? Know why?
