Columns marked in green mark the winner in total return since the most recent funds inception date. Marked in yellow means the underlying stock is the winner in total return. (formatting issues, thanks reddit. no green or yellow. last column denotes the best performing fund or stock)

38 out of 48 tracked funds beat their underlying stock. (yes big caveat because of recent inception date for some of these and good overall market)

Don't tell me CC fund can't overperform. With the right strategy and conditions, they well overperform.

The Gold Standards - Portfolio Cleaning

I did some testing of similar fund from different providers, and will be dumping the underperformers and strengthening the best performers. When they are based on the same or similar underlying index or stock there is no reason to use a fund that provides worse performance.

I keep my index funds in 7 separate categories:

SP500 - historically strong performer - 30% weighting

QQQ - high growth with risk - 20% weighting

TSX - growth with relative high exposure to gold and energy - 20%

International Developed - 10%

International Emerging - 10%

Bank and Financial - Canada and Euro banks - 5%

Utilities - safe diversifier - 5%

Now if I am looking for a great TSX or similar fund with a bit of leverage and CC yield, I look at the following and back test:
HDIV, CNCL, ETSX, CANY, and the benchmark XEF

A backtest shows a clear winner in total return. The backtest is short because CANY is relatively new, but when CANY is taken off HDIV still kicks the shit out of everything else in a total return backtest since July 2023. https://www.oldfish.ca/calculator?tickers=XIU.TO%2CETSX.TO%2CCNCL.TO%2CHDIV.TO&period=5Y&start=2021-08-08&view=total&sorted=true

Keep on evaluating and don't be afraid to change. I worked hard for my money, and I expect my money to work hard for me.
