‼️ URGENT: DEADLINE 8/20 ‼️ Another Cane Corso forced by catch pole and then labeled “aggressive.” Of course he would react—ANYONE would!

What reaction does staff expect from a frightened dog being forcibly restrained with a catch pole❓️

Shelters need to be held accountable. Countless dogs are mislabeled as “aggressive” because they react after being mistreated or mishandled during intake. A terrified, stressed dog reacting to force does NOT automatically make them aggressive.

🐾 Mater ID: #A1973384

Cane Corso • Male • Approximately 2 yrs old

📆 Intake Date: 8/7/2026

Mater was brought in as a stray. He did not have any owner information or a microchip. Review Date: 8/20/2026

✨️ NOTES: Mater is understandably and rightfully scared. Fearful shelter dogs can react defensively to catch-pole restraint, particularly when handled by unfamiliar people. His growling, lunging, snapping, and avoidance appear to be fear- and stress-based responses rather than evidence of inherent aggression. Importantly, when the pressure is reduced and he is offered treats, Mater has shown that he can calm down and become cooperative—offering his paw, sitting on cue, and wagging his tail. His behavior is strongly influenced by fear and arousal, especially when he becomes overstimulated, and should be evaluated within that context.

Is my Corso extremely small for his age?

This is my cane corso Salem. He’s a little more than 7 months old and is around 80lbs. Both of his parents weigh about 115lbs. However I feel like Salem is a bit underdeveloped for his age.

🚨 URGENT - DEADLINE 8 /18 🚨 Another mislabeled Corso schedule for euthanasia despite showing her sweet side 💔

🐾 Flower ID: #A2283629

Cane Corso • Spayed female • 4 yrs old

https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACT3/A2283629

📆 Arrived at the shelter on Jul 10, 2026. She was described as sweet and gentle with the person who found her. Staff also documented positive behavior during intake. She did not growl or show aggression during vaccines, only flinching when microchipped. There are also concerning circumstances involving her purported owner, who said he did not want Flower spayed because he had “the male” dog at home, raising concerns that she may have been intended for breeding. When he called to her, Flower immediately moved away from him and into another yard, and he was not seen again.

✨️ Notes: Flower is a timid, fearful, but sweet and tender-hearted dog who behaves much better outside her kennel. With patience, she becomes more comfortable, seeks affection, and nudges for more pets. She takes treats gently, is food-motivated without food aggression, and allows calm handling, though she is head-shy with overhead reaching.

Flower has also shown appropriate behavior with other dogs. During three playgroups, she was initially timid but became tolerant, with a gentle, dainty play style and appropriate corrections. When introduced to a small dog, she simply kept to herself.

In her kennel, however, Flower has displayed fear-based behaviors including barking, growling, lunging, and charging the kennel door, which appear closely tied to stress and confinement. Once outside, she quietly allowed leashing, walked out timidly, stayed close, solicited pets, and clearly sought comfort.

🩺 Medical: Flower was spayed successfully and recovered normally. Sadly, she contracted a URI, which showed significant improvement by 8/12, though some discharge remained, so medications were continued for another week. She is still eating and otherwise bright, alert, and responsive (BAR). Much of her time has been spent isolated and confined, which may be contributing to her negative kennel behavior.

15-month old Female Cane Corso

I lost my bully last year and swore I’d never get another dog again. I honestly thought I was done.

Then this good girl came along and somehow melts my heart every time she gives me that smile. ❤️

This post is just a little appreciation for this awesome pup.

For the happiness, the chaos, the love, and all the little moments that make having her worth it.

Some dogs come into your life when you least expect them and remind you why you loved having a dog in the first place. 🐾

Big Boy went across the rainbow bridge to wait for us on the Forever Couch. He was the sweetest oaf of a creature I have ever known, and he was a good boy.

Lymphoma, at just 7 years old. We had a barbeque for him, and he ate all the meats he wanted and got all the pets from everyone who knew him and loved him, and he went to sleep in my husband's arms on our terrace. We laid him to rest on a mountain under a big tree, so he could have all the hikes while he waits for us. I'm devastated, and I'll never get another Cane Corso again, because it'll never be him. So dopey, so clumsy, so sweet, and so gentle.

We're excited to let you know that we're celebrating the Cocker Spaniel on the AKC's Facebook page, Instagram Stories, and website today! Our Breed of the Day series highlights a different breed Monday - Friday to educate our followers on AKC-recognized breeds. While this sub is always for the Cocker Spaniel fans, we're loving all of the anecdotes about this wonderful breed on our posts.

Gondar Thunder Beast (aka Guardian of “Do you want to Hike Another Mountain” what are you waiting for look)

u/GondarThunderBeast — 1 day ago

Bonded pair, seeking advice.

I have a bonded pair of Cane Corso. My female is 10 years old, and has started a slow decline, presenting doggie dementia. She is still happy and wagging her tail, but slow to get up, sun downing, relieving herself in the house/getting into trash (totally abnormal) and is starting to moan at night. She is under the watch of a vet. The inevitable is coming...

My male is 6. He KNOWS she is unwell. He has started looking at me with a face of dread, I kid you not. He has started marking her, literally. He is also marking their entire perimeter, whining at me occasionally, and he will frantically search for her if she is not in the room. He has started breaking out of his kennel to get to her, which is something he has never done.

I am honestly so worried about him. I wanted to post here and see if anyone here had a bonded pair in this situation, and ask if there is anything that I can do now, and after, to help my good boy. I am concerned about major behavior changes and was hoping someone could advise.

I know that he is going to need extra everything, but has anyone here gone through this or have any advice for me?

Thank you in advance, I appreciate it.

Nala always watching over me.

My Nala is the bestest girl. She is almost 3 and has grown into such a stable and confident companion. I was in the shower and looked around the corner and saw her watching over me, my ever-present silent guardian. Just wanted to share and reaffirm that we all have the best babies!
