Prime Lens Recommendations

Hello,

I have the rare opportunity to buy not one but two barely used 5D classics off of a family friend. With the camera bodies I am buying a collection of L grade Zoom lenses (16-35 2.8 L ii, 70-200mm F4L IS, 24-105 F4 L IS and one prime 135mm F2 L USM).

While that's probably all I need for the most of my photography scenarios, I was asking my self if there are some prime Lenses around 35 / 50 / 85 mm that are worth your recommendations, preferably something fast and maybe not so obvious, maybe even weird.

I already have the nifty fifty 1.8 ii which is an obvious choice.

I shoot on a Canon 6D, but will probably give that one to my mother (she brought me into photography and she came from an AE1) and share the lenses with her so we're not collecting too much gear that collects dust.

P.S. I was delighted to find such an active Subreddit with so many beautiful and well composed pictures.

Thanks in advance

Digital Camera Green Tints and Canon Picture Style Hacks

Observation
It has come to my attention that many classic digital cameras exhibit green tints across the entire tonal range in their SOOC JPEGs. Models that I've tested are: 5D Classic, Olympus E-400, Konica-Minolta 5D, and a newer Leica M10-R. This got me thinking if it would be possible to create Canon .pf3 Picture Styles that could bring these characteristics to newer EOS models.

Major Breakthrough Picture Style editor doesn't allow the user to edit RGB separately, but with a lot of fidgeting with the pf3 file format, I discovered that it is possible. I create custom software that accurately transforms a 1D LUT with these green tints into a Canon Picture Style. On top of that, I developed a color matching tool that measures color reproduction of Picture Style Editor against reference values, allowing me to accurately match color with color charts.

Further development The result: The first EOS Standard 5D Classic picture style with tints and a DeltaE below 1. I will be bringing all other 5D Classic Picture Styles as well as SOOC color from the cameras mentioned above to every Canon camera that supports .pf3 Picture Styles. Picture Styles may be limited, but there is some more life in them yet.

Images Shown

  • 1st image shows how Adobe Camera Raw doesn't translate these green hues because DCP profiles don't carry offset RGB curves. We need XMP profiles for that.
  • 2nd image shows the curves needed for Adobe Neutral from an EOS M6MKII shot in Neutral to match Standard shot with a 5D Classic.
  • 3rd image shows my custom color matching software.
  • 4th image shows my M6 MKII emulated to the 5D Classic.

4 or 8gb for firmware

I just got a 5d Classic and was going to upgrade the firmware. Can I use an 8gb cf card to upgrade or does it need to be 4gb (and under)? I thought I read something about 4gb was the max on older firmware? Ideally, I’d like to purchase one card to upgrade the firmware and shoot with, if possible. Thanks!
