Hello everyone.
I am new to Canon R5.
I am expecting the body coupled with the Canon RF 135mm f/1.8 L IS USM.
I previously shot with the 6D mk2 and a Sigma 135mm f/1.4, purely recreationally, mostly landscapes, tracked astrophotography, fleeting moments, animals and rarely portraits.
I am novice and not in any way too knowledgable, and most of what I previously did came from YouTube videos and guides.
With that in mind, may I ask what would be your advice to someone entering the R5 universe?
Specifically, any settings to change in the menu?
Any charging tips?
Would you recommend any gadgets or add ons for body e.g. cage or skin or external battery, weatherproofing and sealing?
Anything would be much appreciated!

Been shooting bands on my Canon R50. Needed full frame and 45mp but can’t afford the R5 Mark II that I desperately would love to have. Settled for the original R5 for half the price.

Setting it up last night I realized that Face+Tracking is its own AF method and can’t simply be combined with the other AF areas the way I’m used to on my R50. Wtf?? This is a HUGE hit for the type of photography I shoot, and despite researching it, I wasn’t aware of this limitation before buying the R5.

I learned I can use a selected AF point/area and then use a customized AF-ON button to engage Face+Tracking, but the bands I shoot are rock bands and I need immediate, reliable tracking while dealing with mic stands, people’s hands, other faces jumping into the frame, etc. With Face+Tracking across the frame, I’m worried about it jumping to the wrong subject or searching when there’s a lot happening in front of the performer. I’m worried even with the AF-ON button I won’t be quick enough to get my shot. That’s a whole extra step.

Am I missing something? To be completely fair, I’m testing it tonight at a gig to know for sure, but am I wrong to be suspicious that this may not be the best camera for what I do?

I’m still learning and relatively new to photography, so be gentle, but I was SO upset trying it around the house on my husband and realizing I can’t use eye detection within a smaller AF area the way I expected to. 😭😭😭
