Writ in Fire - A Milky Way Triptych

I began formulating this idea over a year ago and in March I finally hiked out into the backcountry of Canyonlands National Park and took the photos. Now, after two months of figuring out how to edit these massive tracked, stacked, HaRGB panoramas it's ready.

March is the only time of year you can capture a double arch like this. I find it's a wonderful representation of the changing of the seasons. In addition to the double arch I've captured Orion settingegan formulating this idea over a year ago and in as winter ends and Cygnus rising as spring begins.

I'll be sharing each one in more detail soon so stay tuned!

I tend to ascribe a lot of meaning to my photos but social media isn't the best place for my long rambling explanations. This one is no different drawing influence from multiple places in what it means to me. I'll leave you with one, Psalm 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Acquisition details:

Spring's Beginning - 2 panels - 03/18/2026

^ The ground was taken approximately an hour prior to twilight. I messed up the twlight foreground for this one and chose to use these from earlier while scouting the spot instead.

Canyonlands Lost Canyon

Hello! I am taking a summer class in Phoenix and want to spend a day hiking in Canyonlands on my way out! I aim to be there the end of next week, likely Thursday or Friday (5/28-29)

I am currently looking at doing the Lost Canyon trail. From what I am reading the distance, elevation gain, and light scrambling is nothing I can't handle, however I have never done any desert hiking before.

Is Lost Canyon suitable for people experiencing the desert for the first time or can people more familiar with the area recommend a better trail for me? Also any tips I should know about desert hiking?

The maze backpacking

My friend and I are doing a roadtrip of the big 5 in Utah this July and I wanted to go to the maze in canyonlands because I haven’t been to that area yet. I’d love to do a 2 day backpacking trip where we really get to see as much of the bottom of the canyon as possible. Most of the itineraries that look great to me online require 4 days which is out of the question because while we’re both in great hiking shape, my friend hasn’t backpacked before and she’d prefer to just do 1 night for her 1st time, totally fair! I’d love to find a good trail that’d make sense for our timeline. I’m open to suggestions for a 2 night 3 day that I can discuss with her too but the hope is definitely 1 night 2 days. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Druid Arch next Sunday

I‘ll be arriving in Moab on Saturday (tomorrow) afternoon. Thinking of heading to the Needles District on Sunday early morning to do the Druid Arch trail. While I‘ll be staying a whole 8 days in Moab, Sunday seems to be the best choice temperature-wise. It‘ll still become very hot, I know.

So, my idea is to leave my motel at 4am, hoping to be at Elephant Hill TH by 6am.

Good idea? Or should I focus on less enthusiastic hikes instead?
