Got a Quote from Power Home Remodeling and am wondering if there are better options.

Hi All. I got a quote from Power Home Remodeling for 18 windows for a total of 34k. The guy kept saying how it came with a one time discount if I decided today (I know) and showed me his product which looked really good. My wife and I have been in the market for some new windows since moving into our house since my house is about 30 years old. He said there were cracks and water damage in my current windows and showed me how much energy I could be saving with his new windows. I really want to get my windows upgraded but cutting a check for 34k seems insane just for windows. Does anybody know if they are worth it or if there is another company that will do great quality work for a cheaper price? I am all for finding a better deal but if they end up botching the installation then I don't mind paying extra. Just want to know what my options are. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

H-Mart Carrolton Fresh Kimchi

I know it’s probably a long shot but is there anyone out there who can tell me when Hmart in Carrolton Texas sells fresh Kimchi? I know Tobagi sometimes has it fresh but most of the time it’s still sour. I’ve been there when they put it out and I thought it was Mondays but I was wrong. Thanks!

Gen Korean bbq

Just got home from taking the family. There was no air conditioning the waiter was running around like crazy so service was horrible and they were out of soju. Just sharing fair warning. I won't be going back.

Homeless man Philip

Hello everyone! I need help finding out what happened to someone about a year ago..

So when I worked at Tom Thumb for about 2 years, there was this old guy named Philip who would come in and get tea pretty much every day. He was an old man in a wheelchair with a missing leg (I believe it was his left leg), and you could generally tell he was struggling mentally.

From what I remember, he had been in a nursing home for a long time, but eventually they kicked him out. I think it was because of insurance or something like that, and he ended up homeless. After that, he seemed to get progressively worse. He would lose things all the time, get really confused, and just generally seemed like he was having a hard time taking care of himself.

At one point, closer to winter, he got an electric wheelchair. I remember the charging cord was getting damaged, though, so the chair would eventually die. People at the bus stop would sometimes wheel him and the chair into our store. He mostly stayed around the Tom Thumb on Josey, the McDonald's, and wherever he was able to get to by bus. (He told me he took the bus, but I never really knew where he was going. When his mental health got super bad he lost his bus ticket all the time)

Then when it started getting colder, around October/November, he started having these absolutely INSANE coughing fits. Like, to the point where he would cough so hard he'd gag himself. People would bring him blankets and stuff, and we were allowed to let him stay inside the store to keep warm unless he smelled strongly like pee or fell asleep, which unfortunately happened a few times.

The reason I'm bringing all this up is because I've been thinking about him recently. I think I stopped seeing him around February, and then I moved away for school. I've texted some people who used to know the whole "Philip lore" from our store to see if they've seen him since, but nobody has. It's probably been almost a year now.

I guess I just want some closure. Considering how cold that winter was, the fact that he was sleeping outside the Tom Thumb, his horrible cough, and how bad his mental health seemed to be, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I found out he passed away. But I'd like to believe that maybe he eventually got into another nursing home, or moved somewhere where he had family who could take care of him. Realistically, though, I'm worried the outcome might not have been that good.

TLDR:: Anyway, I'm reaching out to see if anyone knows who I'm talking about or knows what happened to him. He was pretty distinct: one leg, wheelchair, super short spotty gray hair, first name Philip, and I think his last name started with an R.

I don't live in Carrollton anymore, so I can't really look into it myself, but I just gotta know what happened to this dude. Hopefully I can get some closure. Thank you all 🙏

What was the point of closing Long Middleschool?

I drive by the school everyday and it just sits there empty. Maybe a few cars in the parking lot. Whereas my kid's middle school went from 600 students to over 1000 students. One of her classes has 66 students in it and all of her classes are in outside portables because her school has been under construction for the last 2 years and is expected to be finished in 2028. I though Long was supposed to be for schools that are currently under active construction. Seems like such a freaking waste.

BK Canines - Avoid at all costs

Hello,

Karly @ BK Canines neglected my pet cocker spaniel and he died under her supervision, or lack thereof. I am not the only one to have issues with this woman! https://nextdoor.com/p/-tQJ-N4P8SXT?utm\_source=share&extras=MzAzODQwODM%3D&share\_platform=10&utm\_campaign=1786419418144&share\_action\_id=6992958e-1537-4934-8550-5af0babd8cae

It is with a heavy heart that I share my dog, Rocky, has passed away. He was just 6 years old. His autopsy revealed that he had no signs of food in his stomach, and was severely dehydrated. He died in a cage, covered in his own vomit and diarrhea. He weighed just 17 pounds.

He was in the care of BK Canines for just 6 days while we were out of town getting married. We were never told he was not eating or drinking. We requested footage of his time there, and have been ignored. We have not been offered even a refund — though I would happily have paid her tenfold to return my dog to me as I left him there.

Please help me spread the word, so that other dogs are not able to be victimized by this woman. Do not, under any circumstances do business with them. I am destroyed.

Molly Tea Star Cup

So a Molly Tea opened up in the Carrollton J-town area and one of the promos was a free star cup for the first 100 customers.

They had a soft launch on the 10th and being in the first 100 didn't count (sadly). Good news is that I found out what their cup looks like! I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet and it was a complete mystery to me. I wanted to make a post showing off what the cup is. It's basically a Stanley with cute sticker-like doodle designs on it. 😂

They also have a Dallas Pin but I wasn't super interested in it. Anyway, yay! We have more trendy restaurant chains in Carrollton.

Flock Cameras Can Track Every Car in America. Police Love Them. Citizens Don't.

"In Texas, there's one thing liberals and conservatives agree on: They don't want cameras trained on their cars."

Interesting article from the Texas desk of the Times today, yall. "Am I just being paranoid? No, they're actually everywhere."

Note that the article does misstate the number of Flock ALPRs in Carrollton, though - it attributes only 19 to Flock, but the recently published Carrollton portal on Flock's website indicates they have 67, which aligns more closely with the contracts that have been passed via consent agenda.

New Restaurant on Old Denton?

Good evening, Does anyone know what the new restaurant the Chonky cow is and when it will open?

Anyone know what’s going on with Beef A Roo?

The past two weeks, there have been no cars at all outside of it, including employee vehicles. The lights have also been on all the time, even during hours the restaurant is supposed to be closed. I was wondering if this place just silently closed without much fanfare or something else is going on.

Warning to Irving parents: STEAMspark / summerSPARK dismissed both my kids on Day 1 over a food allergy, withheld my daughter’s EpiPen, and gave our bank a different story than they gave us — receipts inside

Irving parents, I’m sharing our documented experience with STEAMspark (their “summerSPARK” camp) so you can decide whether this is a place you trust your kids with. In my opinion, the conduct below is disqualifying — screenshots are attached so you can judge for yourself.
They dismissed a child for having a disability. My daughter has a life-threatening food allergy with a history of anaphylaxis. On day one we asked staff to send the meal ingredient labels — a basic safety request. Hours later they said they couldn’t “safely meet her dietary and allergy needs” and made it her “final day.” We offered to send every meal from home. They refused and removed her anyway. Turning a child away over a documented, life-threatening medical condition — after a reasonable accommodation request — is exactly the kind of disability discrimination parents should know about.
They punished both kids, not just one. They didn’t just remove our daughter with the allergy — they dismissed her sibling too, effective immediately, and called it “final.”
They withheld emergency medication. We provided my daughter’s EpiPen and allergy meds per their own medication form. After dismissing us, they kept them and haven’t returned them. Withholding a child’s emergency medication is not a paperwork dispute — it’s a safety issue.
Their reasons kept changing. First it was the allergy. Then it was “not the right fit.” Then something about a phone call. A story that shifts every time you ask is a story worth being skeptical of.
They misrepresented their own policy. They told us the fees are nonrefundable “regardless of the reason for cancellation or whether a child attends.” Their actual written policy (screenshot 3, from the registration company) only blocks refunds when a family withdraws — and we didn’t withdraw, they removed us. They also refused to produce the signed agreement when we asked for it.
They told our bank the opposite of what they told us. When we disputed the charge, they informed the bank “services are still available for the cardholder to use” (screenshot 4) — while their own messages barred my kids from coming back. Telling two different stories to two different audiences speaks for itself.
This is our firsthand account, documented in their own words below. I’m not telling anyone what to do — I’m telling you what happened to us, so you can make an informed choice about a program that markets itself to families with young children.

Mechanics that would do a VW Beetle?

I’m inheriting my grandpa’s 2000 VW Beetle, and I know that a lot of mechanics don’t like to or barely know how to work on them. It’s probably going to need some maintenance fairly often, so I’m looking for at least a somewhat local mechanic that I’ll be able to keep going back to. I’d love some recommendations if anyone knows any around here.
