Trying to decide between the Cartier Santos Medium with the white dial or the green dial

For context, I daily a Rolex GMT-Master II Batman, so I like that both Santos options would feel different from my current watch. I previously owned the Large Santos, but ended up selling it because it wore too big on my wrist. The Medium fits me much better.
My biggest hesitation is the green dial. I love how it looks, but I’m worried it might be too loud for weekly wear and that I’ll eventually wish I had gone with the classic white dial.
The other watch I’m considering is the Cartier Tank Must in stainless steel with the black dial on a leather strap. I know it’s much less versatile than the Santos, but I really like the look of it.
If you were in my position, which would you choose and why? Has anyone bought the green Santos and either regretted it or ended up loving it long-term?

Does the Santos medium seem the right size on my wrist?

Does the Santos in medium wear well on my wrist? Or should I consider the large.

Medium or Small Clash bracelet?

Debating on getting a clash bracelet in rose gold. Which one suits me better? Those are not my sizes (they are one or two sizes bigger) I wear a 15 and plan on wearing my love on one wrist and clash on the other preferably daily. Maybe I’ll get a small clash ring to go with it as well.

Left is medium and right is small

Thank you!

First Cartier (Santos Large) - dials

I’ve narrowed down to my 3 favourite dials, as like as other first world problems - they’re tied in terms of how much I like each.

Curious what you like? Totally get its individual preference at the end of day and no one can make a decision for someone else, just thought I’d get opinions if anyone else struggled with the decision between these ones.

For added context, I’ve got a couple of dive watches (Seiko’s, Tudor, Rolex). On the dressier side a two tone DJ, Longines.

Watch for rosy/cool skin

I’m purchasing my first Cartier watch for a big life achievement. For the longest time I had my heart set on a Tank Louis in yellow gold, but I’ve had to wait for my local AD to get it back in stock as they only had the RG anniversary model in the small size. I’ve tried a couple of other watches today and I was a bit taken aback about how intense the 18k yellow gold is against my skintone (my wedding band is 14k), and now I’m just rethinking everything. Any opinions or guidance as to what would suit me better would be extremely welcome. I’m also open to other options than what is shown here. Thanks in advance!

Import duties & process

For those who recently bought a watch overseas (in my case Paris), what was the process like going through customs in the U.S.? I have global entry. Will you get asked by an agent? Is the info readily available due to having submitted vat info upon departure? Are tariffs truly 39% for Swiss made carrier watches? Watch is question is a SS must, so relatively inexpensive compared to other luxury goods… I’m happy to pay 3%, but 39% is ridiculous and makes me regret purchasing overseas.

What stacks best with a small trinity?

I have a trinity ring that I love but I lost weight since I bought it and now it constantly falls off. Most of my jewelry is yellow gold but I have a rose gold van cleef necklace and bracelet and a white gold juste un clou so I’m not opposed to mixing metals. What would stack the best on a trinity ring to keep it from slipping off?

Cartier X Sacai Collab

Hi

Does anyone know much about the Cartier x Sacai Collab. I know this was mostly a Japan thing, but a few pieces made it to the western world. Has anyone see it in person and have thoughts on it? I saw one when I was in Japan, it was similar to the Trinity series but slightly different. It doesn’t appear they are all that popular despite the limited production.

Thanks

Updated Stack

Added the small juste un clou to my stack. The boutique also polished my existing love bracelet and it came out like new. 🤗 Great service.

Sizing Cartier Trinity Rings

I have wanted a Cartier Trinity Ring since I was in high school (over 30+ years), but new ones say "Cartier" on the front, which I absolutely hate. Therefore, I'm looking at ones second hand. How difficult are they to size? I know each ring has to be sized separately. Anyone willing to share their experience?

[Cartier] Inherited 1989 Must de Cartier Tank Vermeil SM 5057001, non-running with near-complete set. Fair value?

The attached photo is FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I created it using images from other sellers to show the same watch model and the original box and document contents that came with mine. My actual watch is still with the jeweler who appraised it, so I do not currently have it available to photograph. Once I receive it back, I can provide clear photos of the actual watch, caseback, condition, buckle, receipt and paperwork.

I recently found a vintage Must de Cartier Tank Vermeil SM, reference 5057001, among my grandfather’s belongings.

The watch has a quartz movement, a gold-vermeil case over sterling silver and a blue sapphire cabochon on the crown. The original sales receipt shows that it was purchased from an independent jeweler in 1989. I have not confirmed the exact production year, so I am describing it only as purchased in 1989.

It appears to include nearly the complete original set:

• Original red Cartier presentation box

• Original white outer box

• Original red leather document folder

• Original dated sales receipt from 1989

• Warranty and instruction booklet

• Original international guarantee certificate, left blank

The leather strap is extremely worn and needs to be replaced. I still need to confirm whether the original Cartier buckle is present.

The watch is also not currently running. I do not know whether it only needs a battery or whether the quartz movement requires repair. As far as I know, the case has not yet been opened.

The jeweler who appraised it offered $250 and said they would purchase it for parts because it is not running and needs a strap. I am trying to decide whether it is financially worth repairing before selling.

I do not have much money available to put into the watch, and I am worried that an official Cartier service, Cartier replacement strap or movement repair could cost more than the amount those repairs would add to the eventual sale price.

I would especially appreciate advice on the following:

  1. Should I first pay only for a careful battery replacement and inspection?

  2. If it needs more than a battery, is it usually worth repairing this model before selling, or would I be better off selling it as-is?

  3. Would servicing it through Cartier add enough resale value to justify the cost, or would a reputable independent watchmaker who specializes in vintage Cartier be the better option?

  4. Does the watch need a genuine Cartier strap to retain its value, or could I install a good-quality replacement strap while preserving the original buckle?

  5. Would buyers generally prefer to choose their own strap rather than having me spend money replacing it?

  6. Is there a repair-cost limit beyond which I would probably not recover the expense when selling?

  7. Would service documentation or proof that the movement is functioning make a meaningful difference to buyers?

I understand that dealer asking prices are not the same as actual sale prices. I am mainly looking for the most sensible and cost-effective next step so I do not spend money on repairs that I will not recover.

Again, the attached image is only a reference composition made from other sellers’ photos. It is an accurate representation of the watch model and the items included with mine, but it is not a photograph of my actual watch.

I am not currently offering the watch for sale. Please keep comments to ADVICE ONLY. ,

Cartier Melt Value (because I was curious how much is gold vs. Cartier magic)

I know some Cartier corporate folks will hate on me for posting this, but I put a lot of time into finding these numbers and thought I should share, since we all deserve to know the real hard value of the gold jewelry we buy and often it’s shrouded in mystique that the corporate cronies try to hide.

Assumptions: 18K gold = 75% pure gold.

Gold spot used: about $134.37/g for 24K, so 18K melt ≈ $100.78 per gram of total item weight.

Formula: gross item weight × 0.75 × gold spot/g.

These are rough estimates. Cartier generally lists 18K as 750/1000 gold, but usually does not publish exact item weights, and weight varies by size, model, diamonds, and production year. This therefore required a good amt of research.

LOVE bracelet, classic model, size 17
~32.0 g
~$3,225

LOVE bracelet, medium model, size 16–17
~24.0 g
~$2,419

LOVE bracelet, small model, size 16–17
~18.5 g
~$1,864

Juste un Clou bracelet, classic model
~33.6 g
~$3,386

Juste un Clou bracelet, small model
~10.0 g
~$1,008

Clash de Cartier mini earrings, pair
~9.0 g
~$907

LOVE pendant necklace
~7.3 g
~$740

LOVE large/older round pendant necklace
~14.1 g
~$1,421

LOVE bracelet on chain
~3.8 g
~$387

LOVE ring, classic model
~4.5 g
~$453

LOVE ring / wedding band, small model
~3.1 g
~$312

Juste un Clou ring, classic model
~8.0 g
~$806

Juste un Clou ring, small model
~3.5 g
~$353

Trinity ring, small model
~5.0 g
~$504

Trinity ring, classic / medium
~11.1 g
~$1,119

Trinity cord bracelet, gold motif
~2.0 g
~$202

Cartier d’Amour necklace, large model
~3.0 g
~$299

Main takeaway: Cartier melt value is real, but it is usually only a small fraction of retail/resale.

Also, actual scrap payout is usually below melt because refiners/jewelers take a spread.
