Thoughts post-tournament

Hey all. This is a follow up to my previous post asking for thoughts on my list.

First off - I only got to play against a Tyranids monster mash list - but it was against one of the two top players in our group. It was a super tight but I pulled through with a 6 point lead. I took Purge the Foe and he took Take and Hold.

Anyways, here's my thoughts on the daemon units that shined:

MVP - 3x Skullcrushers

These guys did SO MUCH.

The three man group used the deep strike turn 1 strat from Cavalcade and put pressure on my opponent's home objective - which would set the theme for the fight. My opponent panicked and suddenly had to commit units away from midline or rear field support into dealing with my bloodcrusher surprise.

His panic response was to overwatch my crushers, which meant I could safely throw my Bloodthirster and 6x Bloodcrusher spearhead into his center field. He was talking about wanting to overwatch the bloodthirster, but ultimately the threat to his home objective was too great. (The skullcrushers did survive until turn 3)

Underperformed - Be'lakor and Lord of Change

So what went wrong? Not enough space for their bases. A Tyrannofex and a Neurolictor was sitting just outside the center objective, waiting to overwatch. During the skullcrusher ploy, the Bloodthirster, Bloodcrushers, and Rendmaster moved in to do some hurt.

Be'lakor didn't have any space to go, and so kind of did nothing (until bottom of turn 3 when he and the bloodthirster annihilated the Norn Emissary)

LoC didn't have much to shoot - as most of my opponents models were directly behind terrain footprints.

Honourable Mentions

Fade Bloodthirster + 6 Crushers + Skullmaster - A wrecking ball if ever there was one.

Burning Chariot - Surprisingly good unit. Solid shooting. Solid melee. A little squishy, so don't charge in alone.

Cultists - Who doesn't love 50 point action monkeys

Beast of Nurgle - What a unit. Even in melee it holds its own.

What I would have done differently

I would have swapped plaguebearers for another pack of cultists. As a Purge army, home objective is rarely valuable beyond the base strategy of "don't get surrounded".

For LoC, I need some more games to determine if it's still the massive gun platform that it was in 10th. I am not so sure right now. Would it have been better to bring Havocs and another burning chariot?

For Be'lakor, I need to throw him into the middle as if he was a lamb to slaughter. If I give the alpha strike to the bloodcrushers, i only have space for the bloodthirster OR Be'lakor. And in my scenario with the neurolictor applying -1 to hit everywhere, the Bloodthirster with the +1 to hit aura was the right call. Alternatively, maybe keep Be'lakor in reserves until a pocket opens up.

What would you have done differently?

What every chaos gods factions needs - opinions

As the title says. Here’s my takes on some units the chaos gods need to expand their ranges.

Tzeentch - some kind of sniper unit. Idk why we don’t get tzaangors as bowmen would be nice, but it’s weird that none of the tzeentch daemons have precision keyword.

Khorn - a bulky elite unit. Not mounted , not character related. Like eight bound or exalted eight bound but give them Cleave, cuz … khorn.

Slaanesh - rapid ingress fighter(s) ((?)). Instead of bulk attacks like khorn with cleave, probably give lethal hits / precision. Ie the reward IS rolling high. Maybe make it do something based on the distance of the charge length succeeded ?

Nurgle - probably the hardest to say needs something , but could absolutely benefit from some kind of ranged infantry unit. Like 12” D3 or d6 flamers and let you take them in squads of 5-10. Not crazy high tough like the rest, but give the flamers the selection of anti (infantry/ beast/swarm) at the start of game.

Horticulous Slimux and 11th edition

Disclaimer: I am completely new to chaos daemons and so I may be making some incorrect assumptions.

Has anyone tried the Horticulous Slimux in 11th yet to any success? I'm curious if his shadows of chaos terrain ability will come into play with the new "objectives are the terrain" rule for 11th.

I think it would be kind of cool to see him scoot across all of the midboard objectives to slime them up and leave pockets of shadows to force battle shocks and other such fun things. A

Thoughts?

First step into Chaos

Started looking into big daemons and instantly fell for big winged Be'lakor.

He's my first in Chaos Daemons, but only the first of many! He's also my first really "organic" painting, as I come from doing Votann and chunky armor pieces. Followed a tutorial for the most of it, but god damn I learned alot from it.

Looking forward to doing the Bloodthirster, which is next on my list!

2x10 Pink Horrors Ready for Action

These guys better be worth it. My opponent has never faced daemons before, he is going to be surprised when all this globby goodness spawns all over his most desired objectives.

New player

Hi everyone, I started playing in 10th edition with world eaters but I want to start playing some daemons, what would you recommend for starting out? How would daemons play at 1000 points? What's the safest/strongest way to get into this army?

Mobile

Anyone with the physical book have access to a rule entry for mobile? On the app I can only find mention of it under Super Heavy Walker.

Help with a rule

Specifically this rule. This is only for when they become ineligible and still alive? Or if i have 2 ranged weapons i select a target unit and kill them with the 1st weapon i can now switch the 2nd weapons target? I know 40k is a rules as written game just want to be sure before I do something and look stupid.

I need some advice and help from the warhammer community 🙏

Hi everyone! I’m thinking about getting into warhammer 40k. I’ve played the space marine 2 campaign about two or 3 times now and had a blast playing it. When I realized there was so much lore in this franchise I got really interested because I love learning about lore in games and franchises. I only have a couple of issues.

  1. I don’t know where to start. Should I start by buying a couple of models? Or a starter kit? Or should I watch some YouTube videos on the lore?

  2. I don’t know what exactly I want to get into when it comes to warhammer. Idk if I want to do diorama building and design sick ass battles or if I wanna play the table top game. Only problem with the table top game is I don’t have many friends to begin with and none of them would ever be interested in warhammer :(

  3. i SUCK at art. And know nothing about painting. So I am very worried about buying models and then messing up and ruining them. I also see all the different types of paint and get confused like what’s the different between normal and contrast and all of that. And do I need to buy primer? Like I barely even know what primer is bro 😭

  4. Where do I go to meet people who are interested in warhammer. I wanna meet people who like it and can teach me the ropes of it.

Warhammer seems like such a cool franchise but it’s really intimidating with the amount of content in it, from the table top game to the lore to the painting

I really am interested in warhammer but idk where to start or what to order or how to dive into the lore (because it is my understanding that there is a LOT)

So I would really appreciate any tips or links to starter sets or tips for painting or getting into it. Also why the hell are the models so expensive?? Like idk if I wanna drain my pockets in the name of the emperor bro😭

If you read all of this emperor bless you

First painted model (brand new to 40K)

I’ve been an onlooker of 40K for a while and while i was in South Korea this past month I ended up buying a few models on the low. Since then it has consumed most my waking thoughts. This is my first paint job ever and I don’t think it’s bad but it feels very muted. Does anyone have any advice?

Here is my second part of trying to come up with some homebrew ideas for new Daemons, since, for how vast the Chaos Gods presence is, having 4-5 official Daemon types feels very small. This time its Slaanesh

I wanted to represent each circle of seduction: Avidity, Gluttony, Carnality, Paramountcy, Vainglory and Indolency to make them feel more alive and to confront the flanderization that Slaanesh is just the god of sex. Similar to Blood Wraith and Brute in my Khorne ideas, Hate-Angels and Thorn-Children are mentioned in Warhammer lore but don't have much lore, so I wanted to expand them.

Hate-Angels are mentioned attacking Eldar in a 40k story, said to be lesser flying daemon beasts of slaanesh, a lot of fan content makes them simple daemonettes with angel wings, however I never liked that idea because why are they called "Hate" Angels, I think making them corrupted Khorne daemons explains the name, and, represents the slow torture Slaanesh prefers over quick kills, also it adds to the deep hate between Khorne and Slaanesh. Them also becoming submissive slaves explains how Slaanesh vehicles and gear is built, similar to how Brutes and Warforgers fulfil that role for Khorne.

Thorn-Children are said to be creatures in the circle of Vainglory, but I wanted them to be the Nurglings of Slaanesh, imagine great artisans summoning and holding these baby daemons to be inspired while the spikes slowly kill the mortal, this self sacrifice to achieve perfect art feels very Slaanesh.

Mirror Vampires are also sorta part of Warhammer lore, specifically from warhammer fantasy battle, they were a type of daemon in 2nd edition of Warhammer fantasy waaay back so before the setting was even fully fleshed out, similar to Blood Wraith they aren't specified as daemons of a specific god, but the focus on mirrors and vampirism feels very Slaaneshy, so I wanted to bring it back as a concept to modern Warhammer.

I didn't want to go too phallic with the designs for obvious reasons, but some elements are meant to be slightly suggestive like the shape of the mouths of the Ever-Gourmand and Soil-Eater, so I don't think this requires an 18+.

Also before anyone asks like in my first post, the reason 4 out of the 8 Daemons are just variants of Daemonettes is because, they are said to be the most common types of Slaanesh Daemons, so I wanted to give them some unique types like how Nurgle has the Sloppity Bilepiper Plaguebearers.

Fluxmaster base

Hi guys, I'm currently building the warpband cavalcade battleforce and trying to get the most out of it, I'm magnetizing the burning chariot as it seems that you can get either a changecaster, an exalted flamer, a fateskimmer and/or a burning chariot.

Do you know if/how I could get a fluxmaster? Do I need to use the changecaster with a different base, or could I just use the fateskimmer as a proxy ? In the app it's supposed to be a large flying base. Thanks in advance !

Help with 1K list

Hello, brothers in chaos.

I was waiting for 11th edition to came out and since we still are a faction, I finally decide to build Daemons as my main army. So far I got a little bit more than 500 points in Khorne Daemons, but I'm not sure if want Blood Legion or Shadow Legions as 2 DP Detachment.

Actually I have (not painted yet):

  • Rendmaster in Blood Throne.
  • Bloodmaster.
  • Skullmaster.
  • Bloodletters (10).
  • Bloodcrushers (3).

I love Bloodcrushers. They're the reason I want to play Daemons. So I was Looking for Cavalcade as the second Detachment. But I don't want to buy 2K points of Daemons to play with. I'm pretty new to the game even when I have almost a yer of hobby (paint and kitbash).

Can you help me with an example list for 1K games? Is Shadow Legion better than Blood legioin for Khorne units?

Thanks.

My first LoC!

I used Warhipster’s video as a guide, and mine isn’t as great as his, but this is the most work I’ve put into a model.
