Bye my 2014
She has been let go after 150k miles for someone else to dread. Was not going to drop 2k on it for issues.
Had luck by only replacing the valve cover once.
Was great for the kids to learn to drive in.

I got hit in the rear in traffic and pushed into a tow hitch. Insurance company is totaling my car out but she till drives and there isn’t even an engine light on because i don’t let it run for very long. This looks like the extent of the damage. Radiator took most of the blow because i had decent space in front of my car nothing else was damaged. Is it worth trying to fix myself ?
Also what would you guys recommend to bend this metal frame piece back in place?
So sick of this sh*t
What the hell is the sound
Just had all tensioners and idler done so you tell me🤖
How’s everyone’s day going? Good? Yea not so much for me… I’m up to here🤏😠 with this car 🚗 ‘17 1.4t sonic premier RS 6spd for anyone who can stop laughing long enough to read this 🤣
Chevy sonic leaking antifreeze.out of weep hole on overflow tank when it is warmer out. Any idea what it may be?
My check engine light keeps coming on and off but I'm not sure why. This is the code I got. I replaced my purge valve awhile ago. But my my light keeps coming on. I'm at 103,000 miles. I have the LT version with the turbo engine
Hey- single mother here. I know absolutely nothing about cars and how these things go so please explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old.
I need to sell this car. It is my only form of transportation and runs - however, since the hit and run happened on New years eve - it does not run like it used to and I absolutely need reliable transportation in order to regain custody from my abusive exe's mother. long sordid story but if your children were calling you begging you to come home every night --- you get it, I hope.
I need it to sell for as much as possible. Local junk yards are offering 4-500 with the title. Where would be the best place to post it and how would I best get a replacement? I gave their father our minivan in the divorce because I had to get out quickly and I'm not sure where to go from here.
I just lost the job that was getting me very close to getting the children home (they are living with their father and his mother - she moved them right in with him after taking temporary guardianship following his arrest for abuse and I've been given a series of jumps and loops to get them home to me. I have a home. I lost my job after my boss came onto me (I was his nanny and PA) and I allowed things to happen based on false promises and things were too complicated. I had to leave. I'm looking for new work (not with a single man) and my only goal in life it to get my kids home so I either need to sell this car for as much as I can or trade it in so that I can make it to work - anything. Open to all suggestions. (Please ignore the bumper stickers they are on the car before purchase and I thought they were funny so I kept them. <3
Got my Chevy Sonic from a used car dealer, everything seems to be working fine except the front of the car shakes a lot. I was told that’s mainly just because of the engine power.
Then my coolant started to disappear, I first noticed it after a 6 hour drive to visit some family.
The dealership owner talked with the warranty people and they didn’t want to cover the costs but the owner was trying to make it right and only charged me 100 bucks.
My girlfriend is the main driver of the car and with me working a lot over the past few weeks I haven’t checked the coolant again since.
Until today, the coolant was back down again. I texted the owner (haven’t heard back yet at the time of this post) and I noticed some black specs in the coolant that I didn’t see last time.
Did I get ripped off from the dealership owner?
What’s the cost to replace it to aluminum? (Can I do it myself?) I’m not a mechanic but I am handy.
Any advice on what I should do?
Before and after. Said fook it and hard wired a switch. Also upgraded the thermostat with the zzp sensor delete. Runs like a gRaped ape now.
Hello everyone, I am wondering what might be some good engine upgrades for my Chevy Sonic to improve its lifespan and general reliability.
I recently bought a 2017 Chevy Sonic, 1.8L engine no turbo, about two months ago. Right now it has about 92,500 miles on it. I know around 90k-100k miles is when some issues start to arise and I want to get ahead of that. This car needs to last me at least until I can pay it off (3.5 years) but I'd like it to last at least 5 to 6.
I did some research on this sub and the Internet in general and selected these items for possible upgrades. Would this be a worthwhile investment for me, or should I just stick to the stock parts that GM offers? Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks!
A month ago the oil pressure indicator came on so I started down this rabbit hole of elimination.
There’s no flakes in the oil, no engine knocking - replaced the oil pressure sensor, replaced the wiring for the sensor, tested the oil pressure (normal range), replaced the oil pump (did the timing belt too since I was already there), put the entire thing back together and the indicator is still going off!!!
What is wrong with this car?
TL;DR: do you think I can pull this one bolt, throw a ground wire lug under it and put it back in without taking the belt off?
Based on what I've seen of people pulling this part online, they all had to pry it loose at the bottom after both bolts were out.
For me this would be ideal because I'm just doing a Big 3 and I only need that bolt out for less than 10 seconds and it appears the belt tension would actually help keep it in place during that time.
I'm hoping the worst case would be that I might need to rachet on the tensioner a little until the bolt was properly threaded torqued back down.
Critiques? Reality checks?
2014 1.8l. No codes. New battery. Just had the timing belt, water pump etc replaced as well as the plugs and coil pack.
It had P0017 after the timing job. When I replaced the camshaft exhaust position sensor the code went away by itself.
I just...im stuck with the car..I have to get the repairs... it has two oil leaks. Another coolant issue...and the turbo is dead...im fucked. I cant afford a car payment and ful coverage insurance...so i have to pay eith my credit cards and get this repaired...im just stuck..
These are just two of the repairs..we'll three...not including the turbo replacement.
I’m curious if anyone has an insight to where I could be leaking oil from. I have the 18 1.4T with 160k on the dash. I changed the Valve Cover and Camshaft Solenoid Gasket because Chevy told me that’s all that was leaking. I still have a big leak somewhere does anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking probably the Oil Cooler but I don’t wanna just replace it if it’s not because taking the turbo out is a big job.
Trying to rotate the crank to TDC. I don't see any marks, am I missing something?
I just had them replaced in 2023 because they were bad.
The noise I heard when they went out the first time is back. Three years does not seem like a long time to have them replaced again…
Is this common?
I meant a water pump, of course. Sorry.
Shocking, I know. A coolant leak in a Chevy Sonic. I replaced the thermostat about a month ago. It wasn't leaking. Was throwing a code that the heating element was shot. I thought I was noticing a coolant tank going lower. Replaced the coolant reservoir last weekend.
The leak I can see is by the oil pan onto the ground after shutting the engine off and waiting 5 minutes. Thus is pure coolant. I have a pan, and there is no oil in it.
However, when driving and accelerating, I do notice a burning smell probably coolant or oil hitting the manifold and CAT. I also see a very small bit of oil near the Cat.
There is no oil in the coolant reservoir. 1.8 L 2016.
So my first thought was oil cooler, but since there is no oil mixed into coolant reservoir and the leak on the ground near the oil pan is pure coolant, I am questioning myself and thinking maybe water pump.
What do you think? Appreciate the input!
