If Google is going to disable our devices remotely, they should be sending us new devices

I contacted support for Chromecast. They were useless and told me I had to contact YouTube support after trying to get me to just give up. The support they sent me to is only for paid subscriptions which I don't have. Is anyone in Europe getting theirs disabled? Harder to just remotely brick without consequence there.

Wireless Display Adaptor

Hi everyone, im completely lost. I have been tasked with setting up my companies projector in the conference room. There is a dongle in there now that allows us to connect a computer to it via wifi. That being said, connecting via the dongles wifi we are unable to keep internet access.

The problem is simple and the solution might be even simpler but there are so many products and recommendations out there i'm turning to trusty ol' Reddit. We will be using a windows computer and need to keep the ability of projecting internet onto the projector. I have seen the Miracast Display Adapter be recommended but then I just saw a post saying they have been discontinued. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Here is the link to the projector we have: link

And the dongle (we should have never bought) is : Here

I appreciate any and all recommendations.

My Chromecast with Google TV bricked itself during an automatic update. I spent days trying to recover it. Here's what I found.

Some months ago my Chromecast with Google TV 4K died mid-OTA update. Rebooted and never came back. Now it boots to the Google TV logo and sits there forever. Tried the obvious stuff like hard resets, different cables, button combinations. Nothing. Put it in a drawer.

Recently I got annoyed enough to actually dig in. I'm not a developer, so I had no idea what I was doing but I was too stubborn to stop. What followed was several days across four computers and three operating systems, Windows ARM, Windows x64, and MacOS before finally remembering I had an old Linux laptop gathering dust somewhere. Things started making sense on Linux. And then got worse.

What I tried:

ADB/Fastboot: Device shows up as "GX-CHIP" meaning the hardware is alive, but standard Android tools can't communicate with it.

Amlogic USB Burning Tool: Actually detects it and shows "Connect success." But no compatible firmware image exists for this model in the format the tool needs.
Also fought driver issues on both the ARM laptop and the x64 workstation before giving up on Windows entirely

sabrina-unlock repair script: A community tool built specifically for this device. Runs fine on Linux, immediately hits: "Error: device is protected by password", a hardware password Google burned into the chip's eFuses via the February 2021 security update. It's physically etched into silicon. Not bypassable in software.

UART serial console: I soldered wires directly to test points on the board to read boot logs. Found the failed OTA corrupted the boot partition ramdisk. Also found Google disabled serial input entirely in their bootloader, you can watch the boot process, you just can't touch it. I even wrote a Python script to automate keypresses at the exact right millisecond to make sure it wasn't just human error.

USB hub boot: Bought a powered USB-C hub hoping to boot from a flash drive. Requires loading a custom bootloader first, which requires the exploit the eFuse password blocks. Circular dead end.

The hardware is completely fine, the chip, storage, WiFi, all of it alive and responding. The device is being killed by its own security architecture with no official recovery path.

The part that genuinely bothers me: the February 2021 "security update" that burned this password into the hardware is exactly what makes recovery impossible when a future update goes wrong. Google removed the community recovery tools and replaced them with nothing.

I'm in Argentina, bought through unofficial resellers so no warranty, but that's almost beside the point.

Did anyone actually solve this? Am I missing something obvious? Did I do a ton of dumb shit for nothing?

Someone just cast to my CCwGTV

It's midnight, I'm the only one home, and my TV just turned on and started playing some anime I've never seen before. It stayed on for a few minutes before stopping and returning to the home page. The only account associated with my device and Google home is my own. The remote is sitting on my desk, not pressing against anything. I cannot fathom how this just happened, other than some really weird glitch with Google. Has anyone seen this before?

My wifi is secured. There's a couple inactive devices on my network I don't recognize, but that could be any one of my guests I've had over in the last month. I don't have access to timestamps to see when those devices dis/connected.

Looks like Google just killed every Gen 1 Chromecast in existence. How much more time until they start killing off Gen 2?

I have 2 Gen 1s that no longer cast anything (still appears in Google home, but that's about it), and 2 Gen 2s that work fine. I'm thinking that Google is purposefully offing Gen 1s without telling anyone. No firmware updates since '23, and up until a few weeks ago, Youtube, Hulu, HBO Max, or Chrome apps no longer cast anything to them. How much more time until they come for Gen 2s?

YouTube won’t connect to my old Chromecast anymore but other apps work fine?

My Chromecast is around 6–8 years old. Yesterday everything worked perfectly fine, but today YouTube won’t cast anymore.

Symptoms:

  • when I try to cast YouTube, the TV goes black during connecting
  • then it disconnects and goes back to the Chromecast home screen
  • YouTube stays stuck on “Connecting…”
  • tried 3 different phones/devices
  • other apps like Netflix/Spotify still cast normally
  • Chromecast still appears in Google Home and works

I already tried:

  • rebooting Chromecast
  • rebooting phones
  • clearing YouTube cache
  • checking Wi-Fi
  • factory reset Chromecast
  • setting it up again from scratch

Other apps still cast fine, only YouTube refuses to connect.

Did Google/YouTube recently change something for older Chromecasts? Is anyone else having this issue today or recently?

Is the old Chromecast basically losing compatibility now?

What’s going on with chrome cast?

I have a 4K Vizio tv and 4K projector. Two days ago I was able to cast but since this morning I haven’t been able too. I’ve tried android devices and iOS devices and it doesn’t work with either. Anybody know anything?

Chromecast Gen 1 Cannot Broadcast nor Cannot be Re-added to Home

Everything was working yesterday. Then, when I try to cast a YouTube video to the Chromecast, it goes black, the app on my phone says that it is "Connecting", but after a while, the mobile app returns to normal and the chromecast goes back to showing the picture background. Nothing is played, and it goes back to as if I did nothing at all.

I tried rebooting. Didn't fix the issue. I tried factory resetting, and I manage to set up a connection to Wi-Fi for the Chromecast, but my iPhone cannot find the device to add it to Google Home even though the YouTube app can see it as a Chromecast device, and I used the iPhone to connect the Chromecast to my Wi-Fi.

How do I fix my issue?

Remote Chromecast HD not working and no WiFi connection

Since yesterday I can not make a connection between my Chromecast with Google TV HD and its remote. Using another method to navigate doesn't get me really far because I can't op the settings page and the device seems unable to make a connection with my WiFi network.

Is this a known problem? Or does anybody know how to fix it? I tried all the standard procedures to connect the remote and replaced the batteries. I also found a way to make a WiFi connection by using my tv remote to get in Youtube and make a new connection that way. But I can't get out of YT with that remote and rebooting the Chromecast brings me back to a no WiFi state.

It is so weird that both problems emerged at the same time. I see a red dot at the settings sign, so it looks like there is a problem but I can't open it to see what is going on. Did Google bust my device with an update or is it my Chromecast hardware that somehow stopped functioning?

Im having trouble isolating the problem/device. Currently have a modern router( w/forced band steering)->6yr.old phone->2nd gen Chromecast (~8yrs old). My chromecast always has Internet connection, as well as my phone, but casting is unpredictable.

**My first issue is my phone will disconnect from my Chromecast within minutes of casting media.

In order to control my Chromecast I have to reconnect ALL the time.**

So far I've went through my phone and prioritized every streaming app, allowing them to run uninterrupted regardless of battery usage, data usage or processing power. This did not change or fix anything.

The second issue is my Chromecast will randomly stop playing/casting altogether and return to its home screen. Although both devices are connected to the Internet, I can't cast reliably. I never have any problems making connections, it's just an issue of maintaining connections from phone to Chromecast, and figuring out why the Chromecast will randomly decide to exit its stream.

Not working right.

every time I turn it on the remote doesn’t work. I have to unplug it for a minute or so. then when I hook it back up it works fine. I then select the app I’m going to watch. when I’m done watching the remote won’t work again unless I unplug it for a minute again. is there any fix for this?

Chromecast Audio Conundrum

Been a Roon subscriber since the late 2010s, always using Chromecast Audio (9 of em!) as my endpoints for whole home audio. For the most part, they've worked well, but over the past year, in Roon, not so great. My Roon server loses contact with them randomly, sometimes fixed by a server reboot, sometimes not (recently not at all).

You've heard all this before, of course, and it is almost always a network issue. But here's where things get weird:

  1. All but one of my endpoints are hard-wired into the LAN by Cat6 (the one is a JBL wifi speaker),

1b. My server (a dedicated Lenovo Tiny minicomputer with an (overkill I know) 32GB of Ram, no firewall or antivirus other than built in with Win 11) also on LAN via Cat6

  1. The Unifi router/gateway combo is less than 2 years old and has never dropped a connection that I am aware of (in contrast to previous Asus "high end consumer" routers

  2. (Weirdest part) I have NEVER had a problem connecting all my speakers or any combo thereof via another Chromecast app (VRadio) which always sees all enabled endpoints and groups as set up in Google Home, and never drops them...

In short, it is only Roon, and if it is still a network issue, I am powerless to know why or how to fix. If anyone else has experience with or knowledge of this, please chime in! Thanks.

Help - Chromecast 4k with google tv does not stream at 4k 50fps on F1tv andriod app.

I get 4k 30fps hdr hlg. But I get hdr hlg 50fps at 1080p only.

I'm using Bravia 5 tv and Chromecast 4k with google tv device to stream at 4k. I have the f1tv premium subscription and have uhd enabled in the settings. I have app update to the latest version. I have set chromecast resolution at 4k 50fps too. I have turned on "match content dynamic range" and "match content framerate" too. Still the stream is at 4k hdr hlg 30fps. This was when viewing Miami race replay.

Anyone with Chromecast 4k with google tv, please let know if you guys are having the same issue. If it works fine (you're getting 50fps for 4k instead of 30fps), please help me.

Did Google make an update that crashed casting videos

Over the past month seems casting videos has broken. Devices tested CCwGTV Nvidia Shield Sony Tv with CC/Gtv built it and TCL TV with CC/Gtv built in Onn Streaming Plus

I used to be able to cast videos from Google Chrome or Brave browser with no issues. Now it doesn't work on all the above devices. I get stuck with the above screen after I see the cast start to load on the TV. The issue is across multiple websites and different devices. I have cleared cache and data from Google play services. I have tried it over different networks/ routers. Rebooted the TV, phone/tablet/computer I'm casting from, the receiving casting device with CC, and the router.

Seriously WTF. I believe there was a backend Google update that broke it. Can I fix this or did Google break it? I'm guessing I have to wait for a Google update.... Should I bust out my old CC ultra?

Chromecast for Classroom?

Hi, I need some help understanding what device I need and how it works. Basically, I have an old Smart Board in my classroom that doesn’t have apps like Netflix or Disney+. I promised my students a movie night, but when I tried casting Netflix from my laptop to the Smart Board, it wouldn’t work.

I read online that I might need a Chromecast or Fire Stick to watch movies on the Smart Board, but I’m not sure which device I actually need. My only goal is to be able to play Netflix movies on the board for my class.

Also, are there any cheaper off-brand options that work well? I don’t really care about any extra features besides being able to stream movies in the classroom.

Spotify stopped showing my gen2 Chromecast audio a few days ago.

I remember there was an issue maybe a year ago where they were updating something and it wasn't working for a few days. The only info I can find is that they are upgrading Gemini to Home (,which is irrelevant to me as I only use Spotify through my phone). Is that it? Will it work again or will I have to upgrade to a newer version?

I haven't done anything differently. I tried all the usual steps, restarted my Chromecast, the Wifi, the phone, nothing is working. Home app still looks the same as before. I can cast my audio to a single Chromecast through the app, but not to a group.

Please help, I need my daily music!

Edit: It works fine on my daughter's phone, she's on my Spotify contract, same wifi and Google home. It also works when I connect from my laptop. So I'm guessing it could be to do with Spotify latest app version. Android btw.
