Imagine during pre-epoch, Zhou Mingrui's broke ass is still a software engineer working as corporate slave. His job is still to prevent Amons (bugs and errors) from entering sefirah castle (software/PC), but he suffers from work exploitation by his coworkers and seniors at work. Except one, a European lady named 'Amanises' who got transferred to China as senior manager for work experience, who is coincidentally boss of Zhou at same company. She notices Zhou hard work and him getting picked on by others during work. While she doesn't approach him casually, she helps him behind his back by confronting his abusing coworkers and seniors without telling him and sometimes raises his promotion and salary to help his broke ass financially. The smart and diligent Zhou swiftly climbs up to ranks by his hardworking performance at work without knowing his secretive sugar mommy boss at his company his helping him behind hoping one day she will work together with him after he reaches her position. Thus, began the office romance between a simple hardworking oblivious software engineer and his secretive tsundere benefactor boss lady.

Danitz really went from:

Every interaction between them felt like psychological warfare.
Gehrman barely even had to threaten him most of the time.
Danitz would see him silently drinking coffee in the corner and immediately start preparing his last words.
Half of Danitz’s character arc was:
getting traumatized,
surviving somehow,
then getting traumatized again.
And somehow it never stopped being funny.

This scene always stayed with me because it feels like the moment Audrey truly understands what the mysterious world has taken from her — and what it has given her in return.

Back in Volume 1, Audrey entered the Beyonder world out of curiosity and excitement. But by this point, she fully understands its cruelty, fear, loss, and madness… yet she still chooses to move forward.

“Under the premise of knowing how cruel and terrifying the mysterious world is, the me from last June would’ve given up being a Beyonder. But the me of this year wouldn’t.

This might be the price of growing up.”

That line genuinely feels like the core of Audrey’s character growth.

I would absolutely love to see this conversation animated someday in the donghua with the same quiet atmosphere and emotional weight it had in the novel.
