75" OLED to 120" projector… I get it now

75" OLED to 120" projector… I get it now

Went from a 75" OLED to an AWOL Vision Aetherion Max with a 120" NothingProjector ALR screen and...Holy moly does it look amazing yeah, I don’t think I’m going back to a TV anytime soon lol.

With the room darkened, the image looks ridiculously clean. The screen definitely deserves some credit too, I didn’t expect the screen to make this much of a difference.

I also really like the look of a projected image. It’s a little softer than the OLED, but in a good way. The 120" size just feels way more immersive, especially for movies.

Why does everyone blame the screen for laser speckle?

I've been trying to figure out laser speckle lately and I keep seeing people say "just get a different screen."

My understanding is that the laser source itself is what creates the speckle in the first place, but the screen material can make it much more or less noticeable depending on the surface and gain.

What I don't really understand is why so many discussions end up saying "get a different screen" rather than looking at the projector itself.

Is the screen actually doing most of the damage here, or is it just making an existing projector issue easier to see?

And if two people use the same RGB laser projector but get completely different levels of speckle with different screens, does that basically mean the screen is the bigger factor in what we actually see?

Same system since 2007

I’ve had the same home theatre system since 2007.
Denon AVR 1909
Monitor Audio Radius 220 left, right and center
Monitor Audio Radius 90 rears
Monitor Audio Silver RSW12 Sub

The RSW12 has just gone in for repair as it started popping and sounded like it was going microphonic and the 1909 has now started tripping to safety after the unit gets hot.

if the sub is repairable I just need suggestions on a new amp. If the sub also needs replacing I need suggestions on a comparable one.

But I guess the real question is… would the speakers then be holding the system back compared to just replacing everything?

Hisense C2 Ultra - A 3D nightmare

Hey I’m looking for any help I can get. I love 3D movies. I used to have an old 1080p optoma that was amazing for 3D but the bulb died. So I missed it. And thought why not upgrade so I can watch 4K as well.

So I bought the above projector and it’s been a nightmare for 3D. Whatever I do, there’s a horrible lag on the 3D and crosstalk. Reviews I read say nothing about this and have been positive. I’ve tried no keystone, no zoom, different devices, 3D blurays, SBS, new glasses. I’m at a loss.

ADVICE ON GETTING BETTER PICTURE PLEASE (EPSON 5050UB)

Current Setup:

EPSON 5050UB (less than a year old)

Playstation 5 for 4k discs

Dark curtains on walls and matte black acoustic panels on ceiling

110" white screen (amazon purchase $200)

So I installed this new projector about a year ago and i'm still not that happy with the picture. My main complaint is the sharpness. I feel like all the lines are too soft. The way I see it there are a few things I could still upgrade that might help.

  1. hire a professional to come in and calibrate the projector
  2. get a better screen
  3. get a better 4k player
  4. go to the eye doctor doctor to make sure I don't need glasses

Does anyone have any advice as to what if any one thing might improve the picture quality or if I should just invest in all of these things to ensure the best picture? Also what might be the best order to act on these things.

Thanks in advance!

Long throw projector setup

I love the idea of having a projector setup, but the biggest challenge isn’t the projector itself, it’s making it work in a normal living room.

A ceiling mounted projector is practical, but I’m not sure everyone in the house would love having a projector hanging there permanently.

I saw NothingProjector has a motorized hidden lift cabinet for long throw projectors, and it got me thinking this might be a good way to keep a projector setup cleaner. Being able to hide the projector when it’s not in use seems like a pretty nice solution for a shared living space.

JMGO Iris Ultra Max

Didn’t expect JMGO to announce another highend model this soon. I was actually pretty close to pulling the trigger on the N3 Ultimate, so I’m glad I waited a bit.

There’s still not a ton of information out there, but the 4K 120Hz spec definitely caught my attention. That’s still pretty uncommon for projectors, and it makes the Iris Ultra Max seem like it’s targeting people who want a mix of home theater and gaming.

For me, that’s probably the most interesting part. I like the idea of a big-screen setup that can handle movies but also works well for games without feeling like a compromise.

The Iris Ultra Max definitely looks interesting, but I’m not sure I’d want to wait another 6 more months for a global release, especially if the final price ends up being significantly higher. At that point, the N3 Ultimate might still be the better value depending on the realworld differences.

no laser speckle screen

I recently upgraded to a Titan Noir Max and I'm realizing my current screen is probably the weakest part of the setup.

Right now I'm using a random 100" fixed frame screen from Amazon that I bought a few years ago. It worked fine before, but I'm looking to upgrade to a 120" floor rising screen.

The biggest thing I’m trying to avoid is laser speckle. My wife and I are both pretty sensitive to it, so I'd like to find a screen material that keeps it as low as possible.

I've been looking at options like Elite Screens AcousticPro and XY Screens, but I'm open to other suggestions too.

I'm looking for the best value so if ones cheaper than the other I'll go that route.
