Amazon Settlement: The ANSWER to the QUESTION everybody seems to be asking, and nobody seems to be answering
I've notice a lot of posts about the Amazon Settlement payouts hitting PayPal accounts the last 24 hrs with the same 2-3 questions in comments so I decided to make one post with all the answers. I also found the contact details for this settlement, so if you have any additional questions or no longer have access to your email associated with your Amazon account, PayPal or Venmo you can reach out and request a paper check or update your PayPal/Venmo account email address.
****First of all I just want to be clear, the following information I just copy and pasted from the FTC.GOV. I do not work for the ftc or amazon or have any affiliation, just making this post to help answer questions for people/get them pointed in the right direction to get more information.
Key Settlement Details
According to the FTC lawsuit, Amazon enrolled tens of millions of customers in Amazon Prime subscriptions without their knowledge or consent. The company is also accused of making it difficult for customers to cancel their Prime subscriptions. In addition to the $1.5 billion in customer payments, Amazon was also ordered to pay a $1 billion civil penalty.
Who is eligible for a refund?
Under the revised order, customers are eligible for a refund if they meet all three requirements:
1-You are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
2-You signed up for an Amazon Prime subscription through a
"challenged enrollment flow" or tried to cancel through the online cancellation flow but were unable to do so between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
3-You used no more than 20 Amazon Prime Benefits (including Prime Music or Prime Video products offered for free to Prime subscribers) in any 12-month period following Amazon Prime enrollment.
The FTC defines 'challenged enrollment flows' as the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single page checkout or the Prime Video enrollment flow.
When and how will customers get their payment?
Customers do not have to do anything to receive a refund; payments will be made automatically to eligible customers.
Amazon will send the refunds via check or electronic payment (PayPal or Venmo).
An expansion of an existing Amazon settlement means some customers will receive bigger refunds, the Federal Trade Commission announced.
The online retailer agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement in 2025 in connection to misleading enrollment and cancellation practices. Amazon has already issued more than $845 million in refunds to eligible Prime customers and, under a revised order, will continue to send automatc refunds through April 2027.
Distribution of these payments - up to $200 for eligible customers - began Oct. 1. The original agreement provided $51, so people who previously received that amount could be eligible for an additional $149.
