can someone confirm the accuracy of Clemson debt making the oos acceptance less competitive

i read on Clemson FB group, along w/a google update, that Clemson has $1.15 billion accrued debt, alongside total long-term liabilities reaching $2.65 billion. is this fact allowing for some leniency in oos acceptance rate? (it also mentioned the trustees have also been discussing budget cuts due to the financial pressure).

my son is applying oos as a biology major this fall. stats 3.8 uw/1360 SAT (retaking in a few wks). although it’s test optional, i figured anything helps. i’ve read that the biology major at Clemson is very competitive. however, i was wondering if the rumor is true about acceptance leniency to help
w/their debt. ty for any insight.

Red route cat bus

Hi tigers! I’m living at the cottages right now and am new to the cat bus system. I have a commuter pass which also allows me to use park n ride I believe which will probably be my first option to get to campus. However, depending on how that goes the fdoc, I’m debating whether I should also utilize the cat bus system. I’m on the red route.

Does anyone know if there are many stops between the cottages and campus to get to class? What about getting picked up from campus and going to the cottages, is there many stops in between? I’m trying to cut down commute time as much as I can and don’t want to waste 30 minutes on a bus ride home from campus. Let me know!!!

Help choosing major...

My daughter is Clemson or bust! What do you think her chances are for direct/summer admit?

Her stats are:

4.59 weighted

3.78 unweighted

20 dual enrollment credits

lots of varsity sports and service hours, clubs, etc...

LOTS of legacy ties (not sure that matters anymore but can't hurt!)

She is considering anthropology (not sure how competitive that is) or PRTM Rec Therapy. Any advice welcome!

Secluded swimming spots?

I've been looking for a more woodsy/secluded area to swim around with some friends. Preferably something less busy and more remote. I wouldn't mind a hike to get there.

What are my best bets? I was thinking about just walking the experimental forest trail by the lake and scoping it out from there?

Heeeellllpppp!

My daughter is a freshman at Clemson this year. I was under the impression that I only owed $7k for the semester left to pay. After she entered her classes Friday, the number ballooned to 29,000!!!!! Do you have any suggestions for extra funds for out of state students?

What are the chances of my son getting in?

Gpa 4.238/3.479
Class rank 12/179
SAT 1130
Football all 4 years
Junior Marshal
Algebra 2 honors
Geometry honors
Ap history

He has some volunteering on his resume that he’s done with his football team but not too much of that. He’s thinking about engineering or international business major. He’s open to changing his major to increase his chances of getting in. A big question I have that I’m getting mixed opinions on is about submitting his sat scores. Should he submit them or not?

Black Woman Student Experience at Clemson

Hi everyone,

Would you recommend Clemson to a fellow black woman? Could you please tell me more about your honest experience.

I would be an exchange student from Canada for the upcoming year.

For context, I was decided on going until I looked deeper into the history of South Carolina, Clemson, the death of Noah Wells and racial division in the Deep South and a testimony about the Black Student Experience at Clemson, all of which made me second guess my decision.

Thank you for your insight!

Living in Clemson (An Honest Post)

I have resided in this "city" for 3 years. These are points that I have been told about when I first moved here. I wish I had listened. Here is an honest take on what life is like here:

  1. Renting - Tiger Properties, a property management company, dominates the area. It is hard to find a rental that isn't managed by them. The agents are incompetent college students or recent grads. You will be lucky to receive an update on your application; heck, you will be lucky if you can get them to answer the phone. Those who have rented through Tiger Properties have reported having to deal with hidden fees and lack of maintenance.
  2. Work - Certain jobs can be discriminatory. Those within Clemson prefer to hire college kids that they can pay less. In Seneca racial discrimination is an issue. If you are not white I do not recommend Seneca's waste management company. If you find work with the university make sure to get hired by them directly. Third-party companies like HHS, a cleaning business, will try to mess with your pay; this same company may give you further issues if they *suspect you of being a homosexual. Budd Group and other *temp agencies seem to be better options. Jobs can also be limited for non-students, meaning that one may have to commute to Anderson or Greenville. Bar jobs are iffy.
  3. Safety - Unfortunately Clemson has some issues when it comes to this topic. Getting drugged at the bars is overly common. Watch your drinks regardless of your sex. There are also professors and other university associates who sexually assault female students, or having a past of abusing children. The instances of S.A. and child abuse were reported on the news in the past. You won't hear much about it locally since the university seems to have a good P.R. team. Both Clemson P.D. and campus cops are fairly useless. The only times you will see a L.E.O. do his job is when there is a monthly quota for traffic ticket distribution. If you are not white get ready to be treated like a criminal. Cops *will harass, no questions about that. I have seen a Hispanic kid encounter the police for simply sitting on the curb at Waffle House at midnight. I personally have also been harassed by police blaring their sirens at me and my coworkers during my third-shift job with Clemson University.
  4. Traffic - The students speed and do not get pulled over until around the end of the month from what I have seen. Despite hoe bad the alumni are the locals are much worse, especially older drivers. Also, the parents are the worst of them all when they visit or help move their kids in/out. It is common to even see the parents drive on the wrong lanes going the opposite direction. Again, the college kids are bad but definitely not the worst. The CAT buses also are prone to bad road habits almost causing accidents on Old Central Rd. On Lindsey Rd I have witnessed a bus drive on the wrong lane as well; that was a fun experience.
  5. Culture - Everything revolves around the university and its football team, so much so that one has to plan around game days. The last time we had a major game someone had her car stolen and fights were breaking out *EVERYWHERE. If you want to get to work on time, if you manage to find one, you better leave at least an hour earlier. Now you might be asking where are the cops; they stand around on their phones or flirt with drunk college girls. If it's not the game days causing massive traffic then it's the bar hops. Getting wasted is something that our alumni are proud of. The parents even join in.

First Day At Clemson

Hey guys yesterday was my first day at Clemson. I moved into Thornhill and got a pretty good setup! None of my roommates are here yet so yesterday I went for a walk around campus, got rained on, and then came back. As I got back to take a hot shower, I realized the hot water was not working. Just my luck huh? Oh, and yeah like wtf is going on with the cat bus. Like idk if I'm stupid or is this system really rocket science? How do I bus to Fike from Thornhill? Anyways I know im going to love it here. LOL

Freshman moving to Clemson looking for ways to meet people

I’m a college freshman moving to Clemson on the 14th and I’m trying to figure out some stuff to get into and meet people. I don’t really know anybody around here yet so I’m tryna make some friends once I move in.
I’m pretty much down for whatever honestly, sports, clubs, gaming, hiking, events, or just random stuff to do around Clemson. I’ve been wanting to get out more and actually meet people instead of just sitting around lol.
What are some good ways to meet people around Clemson or stuff I should check out once I get there?

Freshmen Parking

So obviously we all know that freshmen can’t park on campus and that there are other transportation options provided by the school… but what are we doing if we need to drive home or go out of town? Is Uber really the most efficient method? I was considering off campus parking/storage for my car but I feel like that might be expensive or unnecessary

2 language credits or 3? Help!

My sons school is giving him the run around with getting his language classes done and are now saying that colleges are requiring 2 language instead of three because students are dropping classes such as engineering or say electives like orchestra or ROTC to fit in the language classes. Does anyone know how true this is for Clemson?? 2 language classes are enough? Thank you so much for any input. I’m telling my kid not to stress about it but he is.

Clemson to Auburn for Zach Bryan on Oct 10?

This is a long shot so please bear with me... My daughter just started at Auburn and her best friend is starting at Clemson in a few days. They are hoping to see each other during Fall Break for the Zach Bryan concert. Her friend won't have a car at school so me (dad) being the one on Reddit decided to post and ask about options since her friend won't know anyone at Clemson for at least another week or so....

I've already looked at travel between Clemson and ATL and/or Auburn and it seems like slim pickings.

Since Zach Bryan has no other tours planned in the area, I'm guessing some Clemson students will travel for the show. Is there anywhere I can direct her friend to reach out and see about carpools?

Thanks!

Parking Overnight

I bought a new car today (Saturday), and I have a parking permit for my old car, but I'm only going to be able to park the new car (which has a temp plate) when I come back Sunday night. The parking service isn't taking calls today. Will I for sure get a ticket this Sunday night if I call first thing in the morning? Can I refute the ticket if I email them now? Thanks
