Hello, I am a 2nd year HIM student doing my 3rd coding unit and I am still getting stumped by poor handwriting on simulated scanned medical records.
I know this is something I'm going to have to overcome for transitioning to the workplace.
Does anyone have any tips on teaching myself how to decipher the words? My biggest issue is my eyes tend to just glide right over and struggle to focus, especially with cursive writing.
Hi guys, I work as a Clinical Coder in Ireland. We use the Australian Coding Standards here. I have obtained IHMAA Certificate. Just a quick question on remote work. We have no option of remote working here in Ireland as most of our hospitals still use the paper documentation. Only a couple of them are fully electronic. Do you have the option of working remotely in Australia

Just started the diploma at HIMAA. Wondering if I need to change my macbook air M1 8GB/128GB to window laptop, to accomodate the coding software to run smoothly since it might lag on parallel window? Please advise me if you have any experience.

I know there is so much discussion right now around wasted time waiting for assignments to be returned, so I was thinking about doing some self guided study in the interim. What do people suggest revising/learning in those down days. I understand that we need to know A LOT, but is there any particular coding standard or conventions that we really need to nail? Any challenging concept to get our heads around? Anything we need to memorise - like ACHI blocks? All suggestions welcome!

I’m interested in entering the clinical coder field but I am a bit stumped on how to start my journey. I have some medical knowledge primarily as my background is in Early Education with a specialisation in Inclusion support.
I have always had an interest in biology so have an understanding of biology beyond the average person.
I was wondering if the best way to go about getting into this field was to do a health administration course and then the clinical coding diploma or would just doing the diploma prepare me enough.
I do have archival and admin experience as it was heavily apart of my job but I do not know if this is helpful as I have struggled to find more information about clinical coding in Australia this has made it hard on how to approach this.
Any advice at all on how to get on track or what I should consider would be immensely helpful.
