Magnifica plus vs duo

Hi !
No review yet (or very few ) for the duo. From what I can see
Duo: can make cold drinks, but are they really cold or just a gimmick where you have to put ICE and hot cofee drop on the ice ?

Is extraction time is the same as on the plus ?

Is duo worth 100$ more

No Touch screen….good or bad ?

Anyone have seen and tested both ?

Thanks !’

Coffee tastes like dirt

I have a classic Keurig. Lately whenever I make coffee it comes out tasting like dirt. I’ve cleaned all the parts, including the needles. I’ve done the descaling with water and vinegar. I go to make coffee and the first time it tastes fine, but then it goes back to tasting like dirt. I’ve been careful about not leaving k cups in after I use them. Has anyone else experienced this? And any thoughts on how to resolve. Thanks!

Dual boiler advice [$1,500]

Hello, I am new to espresso making and need advice. From reading the forum, it seems that dual boiler is the best option since in our family we drink both espresso and latte. I found on WLL a refurbished deal of a Profitec Pro 300 at $1,372 after tax. It comes with a 1y warranty. It seems a solid deal. Any reason to hold off? Is the new Profitec Move or Rancilio Silvia X really worth the price difference and stretching my budget? I really want to buy one machine and be done for years, not upgrade after a while. Thanks for the advice!

Machine/Grinder Setup [$300]

As my girlfriend and I am moving out, she really wants to upgrade her coffee-game from the basic pre ground instacoffee.

So I was told to look into what machine to buy.
After she told me she would really like quality coffee I scraped the idea of a fully automatic machine.

Instead I want to find a good quality espresso machine and grinder. Problem is the budget.

Both things together should cost around 100-300 dollars. The main goal is to just enjoy a really good coffee in the morning, not barista level espresso shots but a really really good base coffee for things like latte, milk coffee or iced coffees.

Am I even looking for the correct setup? And are there any recommendations for our price range? (I know most of it comes down to the beans - I could also use recommendations there)

Seeking an electric machine & grinder setup for dark roast espresso [6500 SEK / €570]

Budget: 6,500 SEK (Approx. €570) total budget for an electric machine + electric grinder. Looking for the best value machine; I am happy to do separate research on the grinder but would appreciate a balanced recommendation for the total setup.

Location: Sweden (EU-based shipping preferred).

Preferred drink types: Strictly straight espresso. I prefer traditional dark roasts—bold and bitter—with zero interest in acidic or fruity specialty beans. A steam wand is purely a "nice-to-have" for occasional guests, not a priority for daily use.

Drink frequency: Weekend/hobby setup (1–2 drinks per session). Daily caffine fix comes from a standard drip brewer.

Space: Limited counter space. Planning to use a dedicated bar cart for the machine and store the grinder away when not in use.

Experience level: Beginner, though comfortable with milk steaming technique.

Manual or electric: Strictly electric for both the espresso machine and the grinder.

Candidates: Considered the Sage/Breville Bambino, but concerned about paying for milk-steaming tech I rarely need. I want to avoid technical or mechanical modding unless it is very straightforward.

I've finally given up on my Moccamaster — help needed

I've had a Moccamaster KBG Select for almost five years, but I've never really loved the coffee it makes. It is not bad but, I mean, something is missing for me.

I drink about 2 cups every other day. I prefer medium/dark roasts and bold, full-bodied coffee. I'm not looking for light, acidic, fruity coffee. What I really want is that strong, satisfying coffee you sometimes get at a random roadside diner.

I've tried different beans, coffee-to-water ratios, grind sizes, and both half/full-jug brewing settings... I've spent months experimenting with those different combinations, so I'm not looking for more Moccamaster troubleshooting or adjustments. I think I've exhausted that route and am ready to move on.

If price isn't an issue, what coffee maker would you recommend for making really bold, full-bodied coffee when brewing only ~2 cups?

Replacement for the Vertuo?

My 2 year old Vertuo all of a sudden stopped working. I was on the phone twice for 45min with 2 different technicians and we could not fix it. My options are to either pay $50 to have it shipped and *hopefully* get it fixed or they are giving me 35% off a new machine. I don't want to get the same machine, although I loved it so looking for recommendations on the different models. Chat GPT is recommended I splurge and get the Creatista or Lattissima (splurge)or the Vertuo Up.

I do like cappuccinos/lattes so I'm intrigued with the first two options but also not sure if they're worth the extra spend.

Thanks in advance!

Can I have a coffee machine in my college dorm?

Starting college on the 19th and right now I'm in the middle of packing everything to move into the dorms. Somehow every time I think I'm done, I remember another thing I might need but one thing I've been thinking about getting is a small coffee machine. I drink coffee pretty much every morning and I feel like having one would save me a lot of money instead of constantly buying coffee on campus. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether coffee machines are usually allowed inside individual dorm rooms or if they have to stay in the shared kitchen because of the heating element. Obviously I'm going to check my school's dorm rules before buying anything but I'm curious what other people did.

Pressure Problem

Hello everyone,
since today, I’ve been having a problem with my Rocket Appartamento espresso machine.
Normally, when I switch the machine on, the pressure gauge rises into the green area. However, today the pressure doesn’t build up at all.
Could the water supply be the reason? I’ve had the machine for more than three years and have always used regular tap water. I know that using untreated tap water can cause serious limescale buildup and potentially damage the machine, so I’m wondering if this could finally be the problem.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could be causing this?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Nivona (non) purchase experience

Hi,

I just wanted to summarize my experience trying to purchase a Nivona nivo 9000 (9101/9103) outside of Germany to hopefully save others the hassle.

TLDR: don’t bother

The longer version…

I’m based in Sweden. There are two companies that sell into Sweden, but no official resellers. One seems to be based in Estonia, the other in Denmark.

I was looking at the Siemens EQ900 but happened across a review of the Nivona 9000 series. One of the things that I look for is total cost of ownership and the Nivona seemed to really hit the mark- low cleaning costs, fixed price service, and seemingly a long support period (8-10+ years based upon other postings here).

It really seemed to check all of the boxes. Except there are no official resellers in Sweden.

As I have had my current machine for 11 years, I am looking at the long haul and what happens when things go wrong. I have been very fortunate that I have been able to fix a lot of the problems on my current machine over the years though spare parts purchases (Saeco Gran Baristo).

The Danish Nivona reseller would offer a prepaid shipping label during the warranty period (which at 1 year, is rather short). After that, shipping would be my own cost - I calculate 75 EUR to send it back. And questions about the fixed price services were completely ignored. The last thing that I want is to spend 75 EUR to send the machine back to a reseller that then is not knowledgeable about the machine or wants to make a huge profit on service- given their complete silence on the questions about service costs, I can only assume the worst.

Writing direct to Nivona, initially they stated that there were no resellers that would ship to Sweden, but then confirmed that the Danish reseller could serve this market when I asked specifically about them. They also initially stated that I could send it back to Germany (using their fixed price contracts), but when asked for some clarifications, stated that everything had to go the reseller and that they “could not answer any more questions and that I had to talk to their reseller.” Questions about what would happen if the reseller went out of business were unanswered.

In short, it looks like a really nice machine, but unless you are based in Germany, there are too many unknowns.

Very sad that so many years into the EU, there are still so many little fiefdoms and companies treat countries so differently.

Coffee maker suggestions

Hi everyone,

Please suggest an easy to use, affordable and beginner friendly coffee machine for milk based coffees. I'm looking to brew it quickly in the morning so please suggest.

Please don't suggest complicated or technical ones since I am a beginner.

Bambino plus df54 vs barista pro [600$]

As the title suggests wanting to buy either bambino plus ( 350$ at homegoods ) plus df54 220 amazon. Or wait until i find a breville barista pro also homegoods (499$ ) and maybe upgrade to a better grinder later. Bambino has the auto steam wand, pro looks better and has temp control. Bambino is available right now pro has to wait until i find one probably in couple of months. Coming from a nesspresso user for years. Thanks for the input i know this sub generally like the df54 but from a similar post most users recommended the pro but that was msrp to msrp compared.

My DIY coffee machine controller ESP32, PID, dual temperature sensing, flow monitoring & Wi-Fi

I built a smart coffee machine controller using an ESP32 ☕

The idea was to turn the machine into a connected system where I can monitor and control it from my phone or laptop instead of having everything handled by a basic standalone controller.

The controller currently includes:

• ESP32 WROOM-32

• Dual NTC temperature monitoring

• ADS1115 for temperature sensing

• AC SSR heater control

• 8-channel relay control

• Flow meter monitoring

• Ambient light sensing

• LCD + rotary encoder

• Wi-Fi connectivity

• OTA firmware updates

The interesting part for me is the Wi-Fi side.

Once the ESP32 is connected to the network, I can open the web dashboard and see the machine's status in real time.

The dashboard is designed to show:

🌡️ Live boiler/grouphead temperature

💧 Flow information

🔥 Heater/SSR status

⚡ Machine outputs and relay states

☕ Current machine state

💡 Ambient light level

⚙️ Temperature settings and controls

The ambient light is there to make the machine a little more interactive. the lights can be configured via web portal . We can set different colours for different modes . whenever a sensor error occurs it wil start blinking red.

I can also control different machine functions remotely through the dashboard instead of physically interacting with the controller.
