Am I cooked?

Mustache hairs were tickling my nose so I used my electric trimmer without safeguard out of frustration. Went directly on skin and woke up with this. Am I about to have an outbreak?

Recently used differin

Used differin 3rd time on Sunday. Tuesday morning I had a feeling like a spot coming through. I don’t have herpes and confused to know if this is a cold sore or irritation/purging from differin

Double first time cold sore?

Hi all. Go easy on me, its my first time... 😭 I was exposed to a cold sore Saturday night both on my lips and genitals. Started feeling tingling Monday afternoon and took the 4g across 2 doses of valacyclovir. Here I am 24 hours later and it's looking like I have cold sores in two spots? I am still getting tingling but no pain or anything. Is getting more valacyclovir something people do? Do you think it helped at all? Very worried and hyper vigilant about it appearing down there. Any perspective or kind words are appreciated. Thank you all.

Help with dealing with cold sores.

When you guys get cold sores. Do you treat your saliva as contagious? As in, do you wash your hands after drinking water or eating food in case you came in contact with your saliva. And do you believe that drool on your bed or arm might be contagious ?

What is your go to cold sore remedy

I have had cold sores since birth thanks mom and dad. Pretty consistently through my life I get about one a year. Lucky me it’s that time of year again. I am pretty self conscious when I get one. And every time I’m still scrolling on how to get rid of it in a day. Never have usally last a week. Here’s what I learned and I’m wondering about others experiences and if they have anything I can try.

I’ve never had any prescription for it. Would be willing to try that tho. However, what I have tried. As a kid my mom always told me just to put carmex on it. Carmex doesn’t do shit but that was my remedy for years.

After that I started doing tea tree oil for a long time. Which works great for drying out the blister but smells terrible and makes the scabbing stage worse and more painful (the ugliest phase imo). However, I do think it did shorten the overall time. I’ve tried abreeva in combo with the tea tree oil as well. Tea tree for drying abreeva for scabbing which worked pretty well. I have tried abreeva some what alone but it didn’t really work well alone.

My last outbreak I bought Mederna patches which I love that it covers it up because the embarrassment of it is my biggest issue. I only used them once and it definitely got the liquid out really quick but then the liquid was sitting in there in that process and I feel like that can’t be good. So I didn’t use them the rest of the time. But if they do work well and are effective I definitely prefer them over anything else. I do have one on right now. My sore just appeared so we will see. I might try and just use them the whole time this time just to see. However, when I get one I just throw everything at it because I want it to go away I don’t want to try different things and live with it longer.

I also found about lysine and tried to take it everyday out break or not but to be honest I forget the majority of the time. I do take it as soon as I get a cold sore in combo with other topical things. I can’t really speak to its effectiveness tho cause I’m inconsistent in taking it and have never just tried it alone.

Anywho anything I should try that I haven’t. What are your guys go to method that provide the fastest healing time.

Edit: forgot to add I don’t really feel a tingle before I get a cold sore usally I notice I have one coming when a bump starts to form and treat it asap. Which for this time I was at work so I couldn’t do anything for four hours after noticing which was stressful.

Could this be a cold sore, hsv?

Was out clubbing the other day, kissed a girl for a bit. Mistake I never do. Anyways idk if paranoid but saw this near my lip . I would say it happened 48 hours ago, no burning or tingling

is this a cold sore?

my first symptom was thinking my lips were dry, like burning dry so i put on a heavy lip mask and called it a night. the next day the same and these little bumps popped up. i was unable to get to the store since it was late. this morning they spread across my bottom lip.

i’m thinking they’re cold sores but there hasn’t been any weeping or crusting (yet i’m guessing). if anyone has any ideas on treatment, what works what doesn’t it would be appreciated. tyyy

**also since some of you are so concerned about my oral hygiene, i’ll break down my daily routine for you as follows:

- oil pulling 5mins twice/daily

- water floss whole mouth twice/daily

- floss w/expanding floss dipped in hydrogen peroxide for STAINING using a c curve method twice/daily

- interdental brush dipped in toothpaste

- 2 mins brushing w/electric toothbrush

- tongue scrape

- smart mouth whitening mouthwash for 30 seconds

- whitening strips monthly cut in half to avoid enamel sensitivity

i also get dental cleanings every 6 months and my dentist and the hygienists say my teeth and gums look perfect 💅🏽

First cold sore more than 5 years after exposure???

I’m FREAKING out. My ex husband used to get cold sores all the time, and while we were careful it’s very possible I may have been exposed many years ago, however I have not been with him for over 5 years.

Today I had this weird like itching and mild selling on my lip line, and thinking it might be a deep pimple, I squeezed at it for a bit. Bad idea, the whole thing got crazy swollen for like an hour and I don’t think it was actually a pimple. The swelling has gone down a bit since this photo and I got my hands on some abreva, but I’m absolutely freaking out.

Does this look like a cold sore? And is it really possible to have an outbreak YEARS later?

If yes… please tell me I’m going to be okay because I want to die right now reading about how terrible the first outbreak can be 😭😭😭

Cold sores after covid.

I had cold sores a few times a year my whole life, I just turned 60 last week. My fiancee was the same, she is 57.

Almost 3 years ago we both got covid and I swear it lasted 6 weeks, even longer than that with lingering effects.

Since then, neither of us has ever gotten a cold sore. Not even the beginning of one. It is like they totally disappeared.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you.

Cold sore breakouts, tried everything need help

20(F)
I’ve been getting cold sores since I was a kid, maybe two or three per year. Then in 2024 I started documenting them and getting them more frequently. Every couple of months. Now I’ve been getting reoccurring cold
Sore outbreaks every single month now since May (before I would get them every 2-3 months.) maybe I could get away with 6-8 months with our one. right when I start my period or a week before my period. I’m taking lysine tablets everyday. I take valacyclovir every day as a preventative but nothing is working. I have every prescribed cream and pill you can take. I will still get a breakout every month and it’s starting to really effect my self esteem! I’m crying writing this. I was really hoping there is some kind of research that could be done. Ive don’t tons of research and I know that hormones can be the cause of breakouts and I think that it is in my case .
Also it could be from stress, but over the past four months especially too months travelling and enjoying my life I wouldn’t say I’ve been feeling stressed. The sun can also cause breakouts from what I understand but I’ve gotten them
In September and November very cold times of the year. I also regularly put sunscreen on my face.
My immunity could also be an issue. Totally fair, but I take vitamin drinks and immunity pills everyday. What more can I do??
I’ve also went to the dentist when I’ve gotten a breakout and used red light therapy . I still get them in the same spot I’ve don’t the therapy. I think I’ve done it twice or three times. I’ve tried everything in the book and have done so much research.
I just don’t know what to do with this anymore, I’m losing hope that I can live without a breakout in a few months would be nice! But it’s every damn month. I’ve heard of a different antiviral called famciclovir which is also good for this. Sometimes if valacyclovir stops working people have tried this instead. People also say taking birth control can help too but maybe there could be another supplement that works instead of birth control. (I have my opinions on them)
Please help. Any research or anything.
I am so sick and tired of dealing with this .

Is this what I think it is?

23f, no medication other than birth control, I sometimes vape but I never share with people I don't know (boyfriend, best friend). I have never had this appear before. there is another similar bump on the opposite side of my lower lip in the same spot. these are inside my lip, not on the outside at all. I do bite the inside of my mouth a lot and have done that my whole life, I've never seen this as a result before. there is no pain or itching. went to sleep fine, woke up to this. I'm really worried because if this is an sti... I haven't kissed anyone other than my boyfriend, and I do NOT share things that go in others mouths.

Big dry patch, Cold sore or eczema? Will not go away

So every single week for the past month almost two I’ve been getting what feels like and looks like the start of a cold sore. But it never leaks and turns into a big scab, it just forms these little blisters that are so small it’s hard to even tell if they look fluid filled, it itches and tingles, dries, and heals after a week then immediately the day after switches to the opposite side of my top lip. I’ve been treating it like a cold sore but also I recently got a rash on my neck and face which I’m going to get looked at Tuesday but I’m questioning if maybe this isn’t a cold sore?? I don’t know I’m tired of not kissing my boyfriend for this long bc I’m so paranoid it’s a sore
