Advice on selling my two best books

I bought 129 for $12 around 1985 or so. Picked up the Ghost Rider around the same time. Maybe paid $25 or so.

Fast forward many years. Had them graded (unfortunately I did not get them pressed or cleaned) by CGC.

I know I should have sold a few years ago but regardless, I’m at a stage in my life where I could appreciate the money more than the books.

Any advice on starting asking price and the lowest I should go? Was thinking of trying Marketplace first (meeting at the police station of course) then eBay if no takers. Also, should I disclose that they weren’t cleaned and pressed in the listing?

Any advice/pointers appreciated!

How do you all price comics? Based on auction-sold listings or buy-it-now-sold listings

Pricing a comic book can be weird sometimes because most people don’t price their books based on an auction sale. Like, if you were a seller or comic book shop owner, would you overlook the auction-sold listing and just price it like a buy-it-now-sold listing? I always see auctions as for people that need money right then and there instead of waiting for it to sell for full price. Like, how do you all price comics based on sold auction listings or buy-it-now-sold listings?

new reader after 10 years

Hi, I started reading comics when I was 10-11 years old, but I haven't read any for about 10 years. For the past month, I've been going to a comic book store with a friend where I used to shop, and I've started to get interested again. However, this time, superhero comics don't interest me as much as before, so I'm more interested in adult comics now. Vertigo's stories caught my attention. I absolutely loved Preacher, so I'd like some other suggestions from those in the community who know about them. For example, 100 Bullets, Hellblazer, and Scalped really caught my interest. Don't let my mentioning superhero comics fool you; I'm open to exceptions like Watchmen and supernatural things. What are your recommendations for engaging, fast-paced comics that fit my criteria?

Opinions on is it Pressable and worth the grade

Picked this up recently since it’s always been one of my grails. Just curious if I keep it naked as is, or try to find someone who can press it then send it to grade. Not sure if juice is worth the squeeze. Either way I will enjoy ownership which is what it’s about. Thanks!

Predatory Practice(s)?

Does anyone else feel like the Heavy Mental mishandling of the release of Absolute Batman 19 has been used by retailers to increase the cost of their books overnight? Trinity comics starting some books way outside the norm on some recent releases, Arris Quinones books were all about 40 or 50 unless they were the trade. This hasn't been across the board, thank you Davis Rider and some other retailers out there for keeping exclusives closer to that $15-25 release mark that I think is about the norm for most exclusives.

Do you think we are going to see $25 trades and $40-50 exclusives become the new normal because of how easy HM was still able to sell their covers by giving the finger to the fans, do you think the number of exclusives retailers get stuck with when people stop buying 1k-3k print run books for $50+, or do you think those who are preying on the hype are going to fail and fade out while artists stop working with them and people purchase from retailers with a more fair approach to pricing and fan service?

I've only been collecting for a few years but with artist signatures going up, prices rising on exclusives faster than gas prices, and some titles having almost 20% of all new covers on release day will be the new norm moving forward?

3 comics that people are sleeping on even when they will bump again🤔

Let’s talk about 3 comics that used to be hot 🔥; now people are sleeping on them even though they will bump again. Let's start with Weird War Tales #93, the first appearance of the Creature Commandos. The TV series was good for season 1, but they are working on season 2, so this comic will bump again. Now let’s talk about Red Hulk #1, the first cover appearance of the Red Hulk. This comic is underrated mainly because of how important the Red Hulk character is; they just don’t use him like that, not yet, maybe sooner or later, but for right now it’s a comic people sleep on. Now finally, Black Panther #2 (2005), the first appearance of Shuri. I get it, a lot of people seem to not like Shuri, but even so, she will be in Avengers: Doomsday, so this comic will bump again, but if it doesn't, then that just shows me how much you all dislike Shuri. 😂😂 But anyway, tell me some comics that you think people are sleeping on.

Can I trust ComicGeeks app?

Hey yall, I have a genuine question about the app ComicGeeks. I just started using it as I currently also have everything catalogued in CLZ! and do see that pricing is available for most of everything I have. That being said, I’m noticing that for some comics it’s giving an insane price for a graded comic that I would never expect like the one I have here in the image. I was wondering if these are trusted by the community at large when it comes to looking at the raw price for sale. Any thoughts?

What would you value this? Pop 1

Hey so I recently bought this from a comic shop and was curious what the value of it was? It’s signed and sketched by Dragotta and then signed by Snyder too

Looking for eBay selling advice.

I fell out of collecting single issues a few years ago, and have basically had a cupboard full of long boxes that have gone untouched for years.

There's nothing of huge value in there, mostly early 2000's stuff, so I've decided to start throwing them up on eBay.

Looking for some advice on the best approach to listing them. In my head there's kinda 3 possible approaches:

  1. List them all individually,

  2. List them in bundles of 5 or so consecutive issues.

  3. List them as complete (or as complete as I have them) runs.

I'm not too worried about the time it would take to list everything as singles, or anything, figured I'd just do it in the evenings while watching TV. Just not sure what people are most likely to be looking for, or preferred way to buy.

Gifted over 50+ comic books, best way to sell?

A good friend of mine was cleaning his basement out and gave me his old comics. I would like to keep a lot of them, but there are so many I would like to sell a few. These are only a handful of them.

What's the best way to price these out? Should I sell individually or in bundles?

[USA-OR] [H] VeeFriends Mini Comic #3: World Tour SEALED [W] PayPal $260

Asking $260 shipped PayPal G&S will ship same day

This is a factory sealed limited edition /3000 VeeFriends mini comic. This is the last of the very limited 3000 print runs of VeeFriends comics. Each release after has 10000 or even 15000 copies! This is a mystery comic just like a "blind bag" I have no idea what's inside this is 100% factory sealed so there is a possibility of a variant inside. Open it in the hopes of finding something more rare or keep it sealed because the prices are only going up!!

Let’s do a market manipulation

Hey. I was thinking. What if we just started buying/destroying all the copies of this we find in the wild? How long would it take to bump the price up to the $20 Million USD we were promised in 1990?

u/eross200 — 3 days ago

Just won myself a pretty cool cover on an eBay auction for $32; it’s the Green Lantern #9 1:25. Variant cover by Ethan Van Sciver from 2006 Signed by Geoff Johns I believe I did great.😁

How do i price something that barely exist? The adventutrs of Kaptaim Kelmoore Defender of truth justice and balanced portfolio.

Not really a holy grail. Notes says "Giveaway distributed by stockbrokers. At least two printings exist. Indexed from a second printing. Date is copyright date.". Seems rare but i doubt it has value besides the fact there was few printed. Not entirely sure how i can even price this in my collection nor howd it end up here

The Omega Man #3, the first appearance of Lobo market check-in😁

The Omega Man #3, the first appearance of Lobo, market check-in: I remember this comic in a CGC 9.8 was selling for $350 to over $400 on some sales; now you can get a CGC 9.8 for $260 to $290, under $300. I think that’s pretty bad for this comic; ungraded copies sell for $75 to $95. I believe it’s because there are so many 9.8's, but who knows how you think about this comic?🤔

u/Leather_Bluejay8632 — 4 days ago

Would you pass on this 9.8 due to centering / presentation issues?

This is related to a discussion I started earlier about CGC slab centering and cover centering affecting buying decisions:

Previous discussion thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ComicBookSpeculation/s/xYuFT3S8SS

The book I am referring to there — but did not include photos of — is Savage Sword of Conan #2.

As I mentioned in that thread, this is something I keep coming back to when evaluating these books.

This is also the main thing I am trying to understand here, and the reason I hesitate to spend money in situations like this: my concern about a possible grade drop during re-holdering.

At first I hesitated to post images or reference the listing directly, as I did not want to influence the seller’s sale or potential buyers. But I’ve seen others here openly reference eBay listings, sometimes even mentioning sellers, so since this auction ends tomorrow, I decided to just ask for opinions on this copy.

If I purchase this, would a re-holdering realistically risk a grade drop?
