ALGS Players That Were Hyped Up But Never Lived Expectations

7+ years of competitive Apex and there has been thousands upon thousands of players who competed at the top level. While some players has succeeded very well in regards to championships, LANs competed, and prize money, they’re many who faltered when given the chance to compete against the best. I’m curious what players had throughout its history had the potential to become a legend/mainstay in competitive Apex but ended up failing badly after a split/year.

Ex TSM coach Raven speaks on Evan and Gen's roles on CRT/100T

Raven says Evan is NOT an anchor, and his best role (refrag) overlaps with Gen's.

Also says CRT does not have a fragger at all between the three of them, which most likely contributed to CRT being a poor fighting team despite individual skillsets.

Raven currently coaches the best team in NA, NIP.

Edit: He goes a lot more in depth about CRT during his vod review, I just cut this video down so It'd be small enough to upload on reddit. You can see his full opinion in his vod.

who would you say is the best player of the split?

Americas: There have been a lot of standout performances this split, but I'm picking Kurev. He has been farming, with around 2.5k damage separating him as damage leader from second place this split, and his performance is a big part of NIP winning regionals, the overall split, and being in contention for best squad in the world atm.

Main contenders for Americas: Kurev, Hal, Koy, Zachmazer, Floating, Naughty, Djkilla, Yjely, Blinkzr

EMEA: There are several strong options here, including kill leader Nait, damage leader and MnK demon Prestis, the ever-versatile Unlucky, and KA/D leader Effect, but I've gone with Hiarka. His IGLing has been masterful and I see it as the biggest reason why Aurora were so dominant across the split.

Main contenders for EMEA: Hiarka, Prestis, Effect, Nait, Unlucky, Sinetic, Kind4, Zaine

APAC-N: Despite strong performances from many players and teams, it feels almost disrespectful to consider anyone outside of ZETA with their dominance across the split, with them making up the top 3 in KA/D. I'll give it to YukaF for his reinvention as an elite IGL, but it could go to any of them.

Main contenders for APAC-N: YukaF, Mike, Satuki, Yulariman, AqbaJapan, Kan0n, 4rufa, Axis, Cinap, Rowhai, Damadao

APAC-S: I think this is the clearest decision out of every region. NoName is damage leader (63k damage - 7k above 2nd), kill leader (98 - 24 above 2nd), damage diff leader (28k - 10k above 2nd), and K/D + KA/D leader. Literally unbelievable performance.

Main contenders for APAC-S: Noname, Wenxx, Legacy, QQ, JackieChan, Ezflash, Prycyy, Xoyo, Asia, Veeycy

Overall Player of the Split: NoName

Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Obviously all my opinion.

Still have hope for CRT next split, but there needs to be changes

I commented on a post yesterday but thought more about it today and wanted to be more detailed about one of the players, in particular Evan. Again, I am a huge fan of him since TSM and have continued to follow him to CRT and hope nothing but the best. That being said, somethinng must change.

Contrary to popular opinion, I dont think Evan's problem is effort. He streams almost as much as Hal and almost exclusively plays Apex save for the occasional game with his brothers. In hindsight, I kinda feel bad for him; hes always been a recluse in the scene, I dont really see anyone hes 'friends' with. I honestly think its bc he doesnt swear (I say that as someone who doesnt for religious reasons but its a thing trust me--it makes contributing to certain fun convos harder) but I digress. I hope he finds people he really clicks with in the scene and does well. For context, Im a lower rank player (D4-D3), didnt start playing fps until Apex and even then i was late, but I watch comp every split from scrims to PL day vods multiple times. I also watch coaching content etc. so please dont take my thoughts as I know absolutely nothing about the game. Anyways!

My biggest issue I see right now with Evan isnt actually gamesense, its mechanics. When he became popular on the scene he was known to have insane recoil control and interesting angles with Valk. But something I noticed is lately Evans movements seem incredibly choppy even on controller. I was watching him stream the other day and he said he swapped to 5-4 linear (i think). Whats that telling me? His sens is too slow to keep up with the new meta. My opinion is for him to switch to ALCs, the time between splits is perfect for that.

Second, its time for him to learn how to play anchor/support. Best thing im guessing he needs to do is similar to most people: watch how-tos, vod review more, practice in game. But thats a bit out of my range to comment on as a lowly hardstuck. That being said, im proud of where Ive improved and if I can do it, anyone can especially a pro.

Please go easy on me guys haha I know how this place is, but I'd love to hear peoples thoughts! Im very ok with being wrong.

Dooplex- the underdog CEO

Can this man get some respect on his name!? Without bringing up previous acolytes with rosters like ESA, OPTIC or TSM.. this man despite team inconsistencies has always brought his team to LAN, weather it was through CC or placement - Doop has persevered and done so with an upbeat attitude. I hope one day he will be able to raise that trophy.

Revisiting a Roster Change post I made 5 months ago.

''Just listing a few 'powerhouse' teams that I think disappointed but may or may not make changes would love to see other's thoughts:

I think CRT coming alive in Finals has probably saved this roster from a change (but they should change). 3 LAN Winners at one point looked like a team that wouldn't even make Top 10.

SR presumably stick it out to give Xynew a fair shake at IGL'ing even though they have been very disappointing this Champs.

VP - Blow that shit up, Emtee was at one point touted as the best IGL outside of the Big 3 and he just doesn't seem the same player since leaving Koy/Xynew. Might be the most overrated IGL...

Alliance won't change because they were insane last year, but they have been disappointing since the Open. Effect seems to legitimately throw every other game its kind of insane, could see a swap just for vibes.

ROC - Definitely need a change, Sauce way too volatile as an IGL

TLAW - No way they don't change or completely wipe the roster now that zer0 has more options since its post season''

Shoutout to CompApex for actually nostradamus'ing that certain teams needed a change if they wanted to gel or improve. I brought up more then a few teams that I thought might be controversial at the time but most actually agreed with me. It seems more and more telling that fighting mechanics can't just bail you out of bad performances now with how good the average PL roller player is, chemistry matters more and more.

Zach, Naughty, & Mac

POSITIVITY POST:

For reference, the old 2021-2022 Cloud 9 team holds a special place in my heart. I have their in-game banner and their dynamic was hilarious. "LOOK AT MY ANGLES", "WATCH MY FUCKING VOD", "SCAN ON CONTACT", and Zach Ash ulting into the zone still lives rent free in my head.

It's great to see Naughty finally finding a 3rd that meshes with him and Shoob, as well as finding himself as a very capable IGL, when hes spent the better-part of his career listening to people.

Its also great seeing Zach NOT ONLY find a damn team, but also dominating and looking like top 3 in the region, despite missing the previous lan for a while.

Mac, while his team has been shitting the bed for a few weeks, still made Lan. Nemesis reminds me of the old G2 roster, they make a lot of individual mistakes, and sometimes play like gods, but are extremely inconsistent. I have faith that they can fix these mistakes before Paris

Seeing them all at lan again feels right. You love to see it

I went to the London ALGS LAN event alone. I'm not doing that again.

I posted this in r/apexlegends recently and figured this community might appreciate it too.

I've been a massive fan of Apex since the simpler days of the Mastiff and Kraber being the only care package weapons. To speak frankly, I have no Apex friends. Well, I have 1, but he's your typical, run of the mill Apex friend who doesn't enjoy leaving his room, suffers from social anxiety, and whose worst nightmare is large events with lots of people. I was ecstatic to hear that the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs had come to London, England, and of course, my only Apex friend would not come with me, so I decided for the first time ever, to go alone. I was especially excited to see ImperialHal leading TSM against big names such as Sweetdreams with NRG, and Zer0 and Genburten with DarkZero. Whether it was deliberate or not, TSM, DarkZero, and NRG were set up right next to each other in the arena, and the nerd in me couldn't get enough of it. It was an amazing, immersive experience which I'd recommend any Apex fan to attend at least once in their life. What I also noticed was how many other people had come alone, just like me, sat around me, watching the same game, probably feeling the same thing. That stuck with me.

I've recently come to realise that my Apex gaming addiction isn't a curse or something to be ashamed of, but more simply my post-work and weekend hobby, and I no longer care about what people think of me about my passion for the game. We're living through an epidemic of loneliness in our generation, which I unfortunately became a victim of last year. I had left my well-paid stable job to travel to Australasia, met loads of new people all over the world who I'm still in contact with today. Despite meeting all these beautiful people, I eventually returned home and fell into the deepest hole I've ever found myself in. My gf broke up with me. I was unemployed, broke, overweight, living with my parents, with no one to reach out to and no support system. I knew something had to change. I eventually found the courage to take myself to therapy, which I'd recommend everyone should do, or at the very least reach out to someone. I discovered that people, myself included, are so concerned that they might be bothering someone with their problems and mental health issues, but imagine this. Imagine hearing that someone significant in your life was struggling mentally and didn't reach out to you, all because they were afraid of burdening you with their issues. Would you feel bothered by them simply reaching out to talk?

I don't have a community, so here I am, writing into an Apex Legends Reddit forum. But I want that to change. I want to bother people, and I want them to bother me too. We're the most connected generation in history, and somehow the loneliest.

There's a point to all of this, I promise. And if you've made it this far, maybe we're not so different. I'm going to the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs in Las Vegas, October 29 to November 1 2026. I just booked my flights. I'd like to meet likeminded fans of the best BR in esports history. And even if that's all it is, come to an unforgettable ALGS event, watch your passion played at the highest level, and have an incredible time with us in Las Vegas. But hopefully, with time, we could bother each other too.

(FYI, this isn't self-pity, it's an outstretched hand. Down 15kg, back in work, and looking to move out. If you were where I was, this post is for you.)

TLDR: I attended the London ALGS event alone, fell into a dark place shortly after, clawed my way out, just booked my flights to Las Vegas for the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, October 29 to November 1 2026. If you're an Apex fan who's ever felt disconnected, come with us.
