Borrowed Power

Am I the only one who thinks we should start getting some kind of borrowed power systems in the game again?

DF and changes since have been great but i do think that borrowed power is the innovation that leads to a lot of modern class design.

I think a lot of old systems, like Artifact power, heart of Azeroth etc would be thought of more fondly if we had warband progression like we have today.

Evergreen features are great but the borrowed power stuff is the sauce that I remember most fondly from old expansions!

Is this a bad take? 🤣

Distribution of players & score in and around the 0.1% title cutoff (EU)

I've seen a lot of posts along the lines of "what score will the cutoff land at" etc, and I wanted to share some more information about how the cutoff actually works. At a glance the cutoff is just a number that keeps moving up (or well, almost always up) but the rate at which this number changes fluctuates quite a bit and at some points in the season it seems to slow down only to then pick up again.

Now, this score number only tells half the story. While yes, it is true the number that is shown is the number to beat at that point in time, this is just a proxy to the actual underlying information that is used to determine who get the title and who does not. As everyone (hopefully) knows, the title is awarded to those who end the season in the top 0.1% of characters. The number of slots that represent 0.1% of the total mythic plus population grows monotonically over the season and as of the time this data was collected there was 1471 slots in the EU - meaning that there are around 1.47 million characters who played a mythic plus keystone so far this season in this region.

Now, these 1.47M characters are far from evenly distributed from 0 to 4364 (max score at the time of writing). A lot of characters cluster around important break points where there are rewards, such as the 0.1% title, but also around points which are hard to break through, like resilience levels. Ever since resilient keys were introduced, the title has seen large breakpoints around different resilience levels since the access to keys (and especially resilient keys) become much lower for each level increase.

What this means for players that are looking to figure out where the cutoff may end up, or trying to figure out if they are safe at their current score, the best metric to look at is not the current score and its trajectory but rather how many characters are in the brackets above and below them (and the cutoff). As of this writing with the cutoff at around 4127 score (~22 resilient), it only requires 30 score (~2 keys) to pass almost half the population inside the cutoff. That is to say, there are almost as many characters between 4127 and 4157 as there are characters between 4157 and 4364. Assuming a player climbs to 4157, it would now require 690 individual characters to all bypass 4157 to push this player out of the cutoff range. This will take a lot longer than it sounds for the title to just rise another 30 score. The title went up almost 30 score last week, but that included passing by a much easier barrier than what is ahead of the cutoff from this point forward.

So, as we get into the final weeks of the season, I would encourage anyone who is anxious about falling out of the cutoff or trying to predict where it will end up, I would strongly recommend to have a look at how many people are in and around the score you care about.

Now as an aside, one might wonder why there is such a clustering here, and the answer is mostly that there are a around 1400 characters with resilient 22 in the EU right now whereas there are only around 230 characters with resilient 23. This means that the available 23 keys is vastly lower than the number of 22 keys (and a lot of these 23 keys are held by teams). This also means that there are way fewer people who will be pulled up (be it by paying or by being invited by people with one resilience level above them) to 23s than it is for 22s.

I hope this made sense even through some rambling, enjoy the data and would be interested to hear any thoughts or comments :)

Broke out and open sourced the "damage meter" from Awowlab for anyone as frustrated as I have been with death recap, aug attribution, and just overall "meh" of the in game meter.

Can find the release here:

https://github.com/Wobblucy/AwowlabOverlay/releases/tag/v0.1.0

How it works:

  1. first pass over your logs looks for encounter or challenge mode "segments" and simply takes the offset into the combat log.
  2. Once you select the a segment it actually parses the data down.

Basically trading a little bit of responsiveness for consuming less memory.

Full disclosure on the limitations:

  1. the combat log is only written to at the end of boss combat so you cant get mid pull statistics from this tool. m+ logs are written ~every 2 minutes during trash.
  2. You have to be advanced logging locally for it to work.
  3. the thread priority is set intentionally low to prevent any possible performance interference with the game, parsing is fast (sub 1s generally) but it will take a backseat to your other processes.
  4. Window only currently. This is a breakout of a much larger project relying on build targets so it isn't a separate project. It might run on linux (awowlab does on proton apparently) but it is not something I plan on supporting currently.
  5. I'm not paying 200$ a year for code signing, if you are not comfortable with "run anyways" feel free to build from source.
  6. IMGUI + GLFW as the current front end for Awowlab means making it pretty is hard. Maybe one day I swap that for something more appealing, but it would be substantial work, and today is not that day.

Some bonus features I missed from Details:

  1. Boss phases - you have to set these manually but the list builds from enemy spell casts, emotes, or you can use raw time to split.
  2. Mob weighting - lets you remove the "garbage" mobs from the meters so you can see who is padding vs who is actually moving your dungeon forward.

https://imgur.com/a/WFV0ZU4

PS: To the devs out there:

Happy to take issue and pull requests under consideration, but this is also a side module of a hobby project that is generally worked on like 2 hours a week, don't expect fast responses :)

Open to any feedback, can just dump it here.

The 12+ - 16+ key level is a wasteland.

I appreciate Blizz making score and gear easier to get but it has left the mid range key bracket and absolute nightmare to pug.

I’m gearing my alt hunter, put up my 14+ Seat and we had 20+ deaths by Boss 3. Myself with a 24sec interrupt kicked 30 times compared to the 12 and 13 by the two melee dps. Everyone was over 3K io and apart from me at 283 every other player was 288/290. I was 30k dps up on the the UHDK and 50k up on the warrior for the overall damage.

Casts going off unkicked, dispels being left to rot out, double pulling dangerous packs and completely overwhelming the healer, you name it, it happened. They tried to abandon several times but I figured its a vault slot and a bonus roll. After the third vote I just couldn’t take it and we left the key before Lura.

I get that making the game more accessible is great but it’s making it a lot harder to distinguish between actual good players and those that just bonus roll 10s for full myth gear and get carried through +12’s.

Where can you look for a team this late in the season?

Hello everyone. I noticed that I cannot post my characters looking for a team here, and I've also noticed that the raider.io M+ team finder tool is basically dead. Is there anywhere that people can go to find teams that is actually active? The last time this question was asked seemed to be a year ago, and I didn't really find anything useful on that post.

Rotmire Mythic Raid Def CD

Maybe a noob question, but as said: when should I exactly put my def CD in the mythic Rotmire fight? I thought it is right before fungal bloom is casted? Thank you for your help.

Mythic rotmire pug tips

Thank you in advance, this subreddit has been very helpful to elevate my game.

Been raid leading pugs for mythic Rotmire has been a headache, but someones gotta do it.

I found a lot of success with having two resto shamans for spirit link totem to just alternate the massive mushroom explosion damage

Any other advice you guys run into? Some people in my raid argue that by like 5 - 10% you just push boss while others say continue mechanics, what are your thoughts on this?

Thanks again!

How do you offer constructive criticism/advice to players that need it?

Last night I attempted my resil 19 AA multiple times. The final attempt we had a bear tank who, on the surface, was doing well. Had a route, kited the first pull adequately, chained the ravager correctly, focused and kicked his targets, and positioned the bosses well. He had a death where he got jumped on simultaneously by 3 foragers, not ideal, but we managed to not wipe and he got bres'd.

The main issue was that his damage was very bad. He ended the key with 60k dps overall, a 0 parse for key level. And looking at his logs, this is a consistent issue.

After the key I sent him a message, "Hey man, you tanked that key really well, but your damage abnormally low, have you looked into any resources or guides that could help?"

I immediately got ignored, which I get, but I was trying to help the guy out.

What ways have you found to offer constructive criticism to players that need it and are receptive to it?

What do you expect in a high m+ pug?

Bit of a rant as I try to push myself towards 22 resil. Here are some topics I expect my teammates to have prepared for pushing high keys:

  1. Focus Marker Addon

Sometimes a group formes, we gather in the dungeon, everyone buffs up, there is the readycheck and i am the only one posting which marker I kick. Most people use MDT for this and it is really easy to setup. It also builds you a macro that updates when you switch your assignment to another marker. If you dont have an addon for this, atleast speak up after the ready check what you are going to kick.

  1. Missing buffs

You know the situation. Someone dies at the start of a boss fight and gets rezzed. There is most likely someone does not rebuff. It is such a dmg loss playing the rest of the fight without 3% vers for example. Get an addon that shows you, that a team member is missing your buff. I use "Buff reminders"

  1. Augement runes

Please make this investment if you do push keys.

Those are just the most common topics I am annoyed about when my pug is not having them. Do you agree? Are there other topics you expect from your pug?

New Talent Builds on RaiderIO

Hi, r/competitivewow! Our devs have been working around the clock on this new feature, and we want to maximize what it can really do. We want to make sure you are getting what you need from it!

Our thought process was this: we have an immense amount of data collected from runs that other platforms are missing. What can we do with this data to develop an extensive Talent Build feature that goes beyond what an article guide can offer? How do we help people personalize a build based on their individual playstyle?

All builds suggested have a minimum of 40 verified successful runs to qualify. Individual talents (thousands of them; this has been a very long process) have been classified based on how they interact with mechanics, and talent changes have been highlighted according to that. For example, you could be offered a build summarized as "trades less mitigation for more movement speed".

We've also developed the Advanced Diagnostics section specifically for theorycrafters, hoping that would be helpful to you.

We want to make sure that talents are classified accurately and the reasoning behind each build makes sense. Since there's so many talents to sift through, we want to make sure we didn't miss anything and get feedback from as many players as possible.

We look forward to hearing thoughts on the feature! If there’s anything you’d like us to keep in mind, we’ll let the development team know.

The feature can be found at https://raider.io/specs or at the top navigation bar.

How does first boss in NP decide it's big orb location?

I cannot make out a pattern... sometimes it looks like he throws in the middle of group, but sometimes he just aims at the edge where no one is standing.

How do you play the boss, without loosing melee uptime?

+18 Maisara Caverns tank, 2nd boss ghosts

My run for +18 was going excellent, but on the 2nd boss I was asked to run into a ghost and got 1 shot. Is it typical for tanks to eat one of the ghosts while another one is CC?

Thanks all!

Intelligent Interrupt Macro - Target Only

Hi everyone,
I'm using this macro which by now is public knowledge, basically, it auto-interrupts the target that is casting, regardless of whether I'm targeting them or not, giving priority to the focus:

/cast [@focus,exists,nodead,harm] *Interrupt Spell*

/stopmacro [@focus.exists,nodead,harm]

/focus target

/cleartarget

/targetenemy

/cast *Interrupt Spell*

/target focus

/clearfocus

/startattack

However, if I wanted to completely remove the focus management part (which I never use), thereby slimming down the macro script to keep only the smart target-switching logic active, how should it be rewritten?
