Mid-20s male moving to Newport/CM soon, best neighborhood for my situation?

Read through past threads, but would truly appreciate more tailored takes. I'll be commuting into CM and looking for beach-adjacent, socially relevant, and want to assemble a spot w/ a couple other guys in their mid-20s (corporate/startup vibes). Thinking $2,500–3k/person for somewhere generally nice.
*DM me if interested in getting a house-group together*

I'm Looking for: walkable (coffee, good food, date spots), close to the water, and a fitness/social scene.... but hopefully more grown-up than the just-out-of-college/fake-ID crowd. (also have a car that I would want covered/sheltered)

Quick Qs:

  1. Given all that, which neighborhoods/pockets should be at the top of my list?
    • Newport Pier vs. Balboa Pier area — how do the vibes differ? Looking at houses near both and trying to understand the day-to-day feel of each.
  2. Best run clubs / gyms for meeting people as a newcomer?
  3. Any gotchas for new residents? Parking, seasonal-lease traps on the Peninsula, traffic congestion, etc.

Appreciate any advice as I plan this move — means a lot!

Is this part of Costa Mesa safe/good?

Hey folks, might be moving in this part of Costa Mesa in the coming weeks. It’s the Church St area in East Side Costa Mesa. Is this a good location in general?

Work will be in Irvine, but prefer to live in Costa Mesa.

I know East Side is generally good, but would to hear what other neighborhoods are worth looking into in Costa Mesa.

Thanks in advance for all your thoughts!

Abused/neglected Saint Bernard that needs help!! Anyone have resources?

this will be long, but this good boy Marley really deserves a chance at life. my next door neighbors have a dog that was horrifically abused and neglected. We share a fence for our back patios. i never use my patio because the smell is terrible because they never clean up after their dog. I knew it was gross but I didn't realize how bad they were treating him until I saw him through the fence this past saturday (6/27). I could visibly see bones through his body, red marks all over him and half his fur was gone. I went to my neighbors who live above me to see if I could get a better view to get some pictures. unfortunately I could not. Sunday (6/28) in the morning I was taking my dog out to potty in the front area, and somehow their dog, had gotten out. their front door was open, i yelled into their house multiple times asking if anyone was home and nobody answered. I felt physically sick when I saw what he actually looked like. he was in terrible condition that even my pictures and video's didn't do justice. this poor guy was being starved and infested with fleas. I immediately put my dog away, called animal control and put out food and water for him. I didn't want him going back to that home. I went upstairs to my neighbors again to ask if they could help me put him somewhere. they also were disgusted and called animal control. then, all of a sudden someone called Marley inside and shut the door, so someone was home. shortly after, animal control showed up. and another neighbor came by and said she has been reporting the treatment of that dog for months. animal control went in and out of Marleys home and would not tell the neighbors anything except it is an active investigation. we were all sickened that they left without removing the dog. I posted on my local FB page after that, explaining the situation and asking for help. a few good samaritans reached out to me and one ended up coming by, knocking on the neighbors door and asking if they would consider surrendering Marley. and THEY DID!! BUT that was only 1 hurdle. He needed to go to a shelter because of the flea infestation and needing medical treatment asap. HE IS NOW IN A SHELTER, but he NEEDS A HOME. I can't stop thinking about him. DOES ANYONE HAVE RESOURCES TO GET HIM INTO A FOSTER OR ADOPTER? I am in Orange County CA. Please please he deserves a chance at life!! he seems to be a good boy, nervous but not aggressive. there are also about 10 cats in the home he was in (another issue) so i think he gets along with cats.

I've never lived in SoCal... Is Costa Mesa right for us?

We're a young couple. Husband works remote, I will be commuting to office near Irvine Spectrum.

We don't have any friends here, but some in LA so would like to drive into LA on weekends. We want good restaurants, good bars, etc. Is Costa Mesa a good choice?

If anyone moved from San Francisco, how does it compare in terms of restaurant and bar density?

Park to watch fireworks?

Any suggestions for a local park for watching the fireworks? I’m looking for something not super crowded where we can lay out a blanket and watch.

bad at soccer? perfect. let's play anyway 🤣⚽️

hey girlies! 🤗

im looking for other women (20s-30s) in oc who want to play some super beginner-friendly pickup soccer.
i live closest to Newport Beach, but totally down to meet up in Costa Mesa, Tustin, Santa Ana, or nearby if that's easier

full disclosure: I'm definitely a beginner & I'm not looking for anything super competitive, just a fun way to get outside, get some exercise, meet new people, and kick a soccer ball around

not really interested in joining a formal league right now because my skills are... still a work in progress 😅 (although if anyone has a team that's willing to adopt a very enthusiastic bad player, I'm down!) heard Soccer6 mentioned a few times but tbh looks a bit more competitive for my skill level

figured it might be more fun to just get a group of girls together for casual pickup games. even if we only get 4-10 people to start, that'd be awesome! no experience needed at all. If you've never played before, that's honestly ideal because we'll all be learning together

if you're interested, comment below or send me a DM! & if u know anyone else who might be into this, tag them! ⚽️💗

If there's enough interest, I'll make a group chat!

Recommendations for a gluten and dairy-free happy-hour / dinner?

My wife and I are new to the area and looking for recommendations for tonight. We’re hoping to find a good bar/restaurant in or around Costa Mesa for dinner, possibly with a solid happy hour.

The main challenge is that we both need to be gluten-free and dairy-free, not by choice. We’re also not really “salad for dinner” people, so we’re hoping for places that have real entrée options or naturally gluten/dairy-free dishes that are still satisfying. Cross contamination is also not an issue.

Bonus points for:

  • A good happy hour
  • Cocktails or a decent drink menu
  • Gluten-reduced beer on tap
  • Anything with tacos, seafood, grilled meats, Asian food, Mediterranean, or other non-salad dinner options

We’re open to nearby areas too (Irvine, Newport, Huntington) if the food is worth it. Any recommendations for tonight?
