Holiday appreciation

I am a newish employee and have so far worked two holidays. We do not get paid holiday pay, and our managers did nothing special for us. No snacks, meals, or even gratitude for working the insane holidays. I have never worked for a corporate job that completely dismisses its employees working holidays or failed to offer some kind of holiday compensation. Is this normal?

Holidays

Is everyone’s store making all holidays mandatory? Our GM said that every major holiday is mandatory to work not just Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Mother’s Day

Is it normal to mess up?

I’m a month in and I feel like I’ve messed up a lot. Way too much. Today was the first time I’ve ever had to have a manager talk to my table. It was a table I split with another server and I completely messed my part up. Everything was wrong. I gave my tip to the other server (I later got it back). I just feel like shit about it. What are your mess up stories?

WHY IS THE CONTEST CANDY AGAIN

I’m really tired of getting yelled at by my managers because guests don’t wanna buy chocolate when it’s 100 degrees outside

Just applied for retail

This is my first time ever applying to anywhere and I chose a retail position at cracker barrel. I have zero idea what to expect I got a confirmation email saying my application was submitted but nothing about setting an interview date or anything yet since I just submitted everything. I'm f16 and in Florida if that affects anything

Did anyone else have the same experience when hired?

Last Wednesday I had an interview as a server, and it went well I got the job, and was told if i could come in next Wednesday for orientation, and i said sure but i was given no details so I’m a little confused. What do i wear? what time do i come in? How long will orientation last? I obviously know now i should’ve asked but as soon as i accepted the offer the manager shook my hand, and walked away. I will probably most likely just call the store, and follow up but I just thought that was a little strange.

Almost threw this gem away 😂

I had a 3 top, 2 parents and a little girl. Couldn’t have been older than 10. Part of me wonders why a child so young is watching TADC, but I also watched Happy Tree Friends so I can’t say much 😂

Ice cream trucks are ruthless

I seriously can’t go anywhere with my kids without getting ambushed by an ice cream man, and at the worst possible time too. I swear they know you’re going to lose the fight with your kids or wage a major battle to get past them. It’s either the park, the playground, or driving by our house right when they get out school, and always just before lunch or dinner when I’m already struggling to get them to eat healthy. We already have plenty of treats at home (for rewards or special occasions) but it has to be THE ICE CREAM MAN! I don’t have a problem giving my children a treat when they’re good, but I don’t need the ice cream man to show up everywhere we go where we’re just trying to get fresh air without this extra pressure.

What other job basically sells crack for kids and stalks them everywhere they go, knowing their parents will cave and have to pick up the tab?

Side work tips

I just started as a server about a month ago and I’m still terrible at side work. I take so long and I forget things sometimes (ADHD unfortunately). How can I get better? I usually try and do my silverware early in the shift and prep for my side work. I just don’t want to rely on my coworkers or make them work around me.

I bought a peg game yesterday…

Customer comes in tonight, and says he bought a peg game yesterday, and it is missing one peg and he can’t fill all of the holes. 😐 A server just took a peg from a game on a table and gave it to him. We could have tried to explain it is supposed to have one open peg spot, but why bother.

Food presentation

Regular customer here and just tried the Pinto Beans! I’ve always heard they were a very popular side, never had them ever and felt adventurous this trip. Waitress asked if I wanted onions on them. Sure go for it all, I’m envisioning sautéed onions. Yum!
Reality:
Dried up beans and some raw onions tossed on top. Is that typical? Oof. Not even a speck of ham tossed in, onions were dried up too.
