Ew that smell

Is it me? These 250th crayons do NOT smell good and not like regular Crayolas. I know it’s not just my nose because I did a sniff test on a few other boxes since I only have like 100 different sets, and those still all smell distinctly Crayola. Anyone else notice this?

Work Crayon Haul

I got lucky this week at work. At the library I work part time at, I was digging through a lower cabinet to look for buried supplies for the 4th of July coloring tablecloth. See the attached pictures for what I found. My supervisor was amused when I offered to pay for them, and told me to take the box home. I'd had my eye on some eBay Color Slicks for a while, and this will be a good sampler. The peeled crayons were sharpened by me after plenty of kid use. And yes, there was a Dandelion in there. :)

i may have just stumbled upon some obscure/unconfirmed crayola media

for context: i was on the “list of Crayola colors” Wikipedia article because i was bored. i clicked one of the footnote links and it lead me to the now-defunct crayoncollecting.com, which had many of its links archived on the Wayback Machine before the site shut down. this site was created and solely operated by one Ed Welter, who began his crayon-collecting hobby in 2001. the earliest Wayback capture of his site is dated March 22nd, 2004.

the footnote contained a wayback link to the definitive color list, so i looked. there were two “unknown” colors with a sidenote saying they were ‘part of a special Philadelphia Eagles make-up pack’ listed at the top of the page. i was intrigued by this, so i dug some more and found an image of the product on a different article from the same site.

in the latter article, there was a blurb beside the aforementioned product photo that said: “Rarer still are the two Philadelphia Eagles crayons done for a football game in [2001].  I’ve personally only seen one of these boxes in an auction and I don’t know what the two colors are…”. from the latest capture of the color list with no error page (November 22nd, 2021), the two ‘eagles pack’ colors still had many question marks beside them, meaning that Welter was most-likely unable to identify them.

if anyone else has more information on this, i will only communicate through this comments section about the subject of my post. thanks for reading!

Periwinkle vs Blue Bell

I finally got a 120 box of crayons, something I've wanted since I was a little kid. 🥹 But while I was swatching and sorting the colors I realized these two look identical! Am I going colorblind or is this an error? And which one is the correct color? A little sad I got a double but ah well. 🥲
(excuse the nasty looking background, it's my art tray so it's got some stains lol)

Does anyone remember when Dandelion was replaced with Alloy Orange for a short time before the arrival of Bluetiful?

I bought the 152 crayon kit from Staples in 2019 and for some reason, an Alloy Orange crayon was in Dandelion's spot with a black wrapper around it. Did anyone else experience the same thing?

Disclosure Day Crayons

It’s a super brief moment and hard to identify a time frame off of just a hand rummaging - but I got the impression that it was a basket containing the Name the New Colors pack (1992… I got them at college) - anyone else seen the film and able to confirm/prove me wrong - it’s a crazy thing to notice but I am a theatrical designer so I love noticing when they get a prop so right.

Crayola Updated Their Answer About How Many Crayola Colors Exist

I heard that Crayola updated their answer from 149 colors into 269 colors.

However, this means that the only box that actually contains all those 269 colors would be the limited edition 288-crayon box that was released last year. The 288-crayon box contains dandelion, indigo, bluetiful, 4 Colors of Kindness, and 24 Colors of the World all existing in the same box at once.

Because of this, I'm not sure if I should really buy the 288 crayons from Amazon or not. The only colors I would realistically use in my colored drawings are the 120 current colors, the 8 retired colors, the 4 Colors of Kindness, and the 32 Colors of the World.

I don't know what to do with the pearl crayons, the swirl crayons, the bold & bright crayons, the glitter crayons, and the metallic crayons because I may not use those crayons as much as the other ones. In other words, I may end up leaving those speciality crayons unused.

Do you think it's worth buying the 288-crayon box from Amazon? Let me know in the comments.

Crayola Merch

Hey everyone, don’t know if I may have picked the wrong flair but I picked up something from a thrift store and am wondering if this is a custom piece of merch or if this was for internal use only.

I’ve checked online to see all of Crayolas public logos and it is nowhere to be found. I think it may be either an internal logo or even something that was a prototype logo.

Update: so I got a response from Crayola via Instagram. Picture of conversation in comments.

Carnation Pink?

Does anyone know why Crayola's basic pink crayon is named "Carnation Pink" instead of just simply "Pink"?

Even as a kid it always felt weird to me. All the crayons in the smaller boxes have basic names... and then you suddenly have this color that has carnation in its name. It's like naming green as "Grass Green" or yellow as "Sunflower Yellow"

Even weirder is that it's only the crayon that does this. I'm pretty sure the colored pencils and markers only name it as Pink.

Also isn't the name too much of a mouthful for toddlers?

"Can I borrow your Pink crayon"

"I don't have one. I only have ✨Carnation✨ Pink."

Lots of goodies for my collection

I picked up the sticker sheet, pencil bag, another caddy, and the limited edition crayons from Dollar Tree. I was traveling and this location had lots of the 8 retired colors in stock. Bought the Colors of the World and Welcome Back Dandelion packs at Walmart. Then thrifted the tin, red box, giant crayon, crayons, and marker at three different stores. And of course snagged the Burger King items

I’m so glad I checked out the red box because there were lots of crayons inside, and I even found discontinued colors! Nine of them had the current label on the wrappers, so I’m assuming this was the limited edition colors that came out years back. Also, I never seen this marker so I thought it was cool that it can change colors

looking for Mulberry & Royal Purple (Philippines)

Hello! I really love the Mulberry and Royal Purple crayola but unfortunately, they retired last 2003 and 1997(?) respectively

Could anyone donate/give/sell theirs? Thank you so much!

I'm also looking for collectibles. Thanks!

Colored the Burger King bag

I had to cut the bottom off to fold it like this for coloring, but I like the way it turned out. Is it just me, or was the nugget hard to find? I accidentally colored over it before I saw it.

Found this weird Crayola bubble wand, I Google image searches and researched loads. At first I thought it was just a melted crayon inside (like wax) but it's bubbles with a wand inside. Never seen this product before, can someone tell me if it's rare or when it was produced?
