Player Refuses to Make a Deal with Crossroads

I have even talked to the player outside of the game, and they refuse to make a deal with him because their character wouldn't do that. They arrived, and the boat looks destroyed and very different from what everyone else sees. Is there a way for them to bypass the need to make a deal because they are very adamant about not doing it?

Question About Blood Well , from Crimson Sorcerer

Hello there , i was looking to play healer sorcerer , and I found this subclass.
when i read Blood well , i think i can build around it but ,
the question i got was in mind was that , does the additional 1d8 count towards the 10 narcotic damage required for regaining the use of the blood well.

>You hold a reserve of vital energy called your Blood Well, which you can use to empower your magic and fuel other powers from this subclass. When you deal damage or restore Hit Points to a creature, you can expend your Blood Well to add 1d8 to the total for one target.

You regain your expended Blood Well when you finish a Long Rest or when a creature takes 10 or more Necrotic damage from you at one time.

example : i cast inflict wound and i get 9 damage , i use blood well to add 1d8 damage , i get 3 , now i dealt 12 damage , now does that mean i regain blood well or not

i would like to hear how you rule this raw , and if you changed it through experience??

Tarot Reading

I'm starting CM tonight. The players have picked their Fateweaving options in session zero, and I have an idea for which tarot card would suit some of the PCs based on their backstories and fates, but I'm less certain on others.

Brief list:

  • Rogue, Thread of Liberation. Wheel of Fortune felt appropriate as they're going for a gambler theme and want to lean into jinxcraft.
  • Sorcerer, Thread of Apocalypse. I was leaning towards The Hanged Man as they have a musical theme.
  • Fighter, Thread of Immortality. Justice, as the player is playing a dhampir and wants to lean into vampire stuff. I didn't go with Hierophant because they want to punch.
  • Ranger, Thread of Rapture. I went with the Lovers due to their backstory (she went with a cult and spreading the word of a cult leader). I'm not sure if this is the best choice. I also find myself wondering about how late they receive the item.
  • Barbarian, Thread of Evolution. Leaning hard into Frankenstein's monster vibe. I was thinking about Temperance, but the veil didn't feel like a great item for a barbarian despite the strong thematic ties to Lethica. Then I thought about Chariot as the scythe felt okay (but then there's overlap if I stick with Hanged Man above). I'm still uncertain about this one.

I've thought about giving each of them a random roll for a second card, but figure it might be too powerful long term in a horror campaign.

Question is - how did you guys approach your tarot readings? Did you try and personalize, leave it random, just give them all the items, etc.?

The Encounter with the Druids after they enter the Commune - Hartsblight

The map is 53x70 to allow the 300ft distance from the commune to the edge of the forest.

This combat occurs after the party investigates the commune.

I plan to do 2 things: explore the setting as a sandbox and use body horror

First it seems a shame the PCs can't get to the other provinces, either to get allies (albeit evil ones) or more enemies. The more time they stray from the plot can be good or bad, and it should be difficult though not impossível to escape Wickermoor Hollow. Also they should start as their initial ancestries and begin to turn Ashborn and the other options in a slow pace, to keep them weirded out. What do you think ?

Player is sure Phillip Druskenwald is the CEO of Phillips screwdrivers

Phillip is not a common name in our mother tounge. Basically the player is sure this is a great business opportunity for screwdriver entrepreneurship. How do I continue this arch. Will they go into business together? Is Phillip hiding the ultimate screwdriver? Is the screw binding the crooked queen a phillips screw? What is life?

What are some things you did to keep the crooked house more exciting?

I ran crooked house with one of my groups, and it was rather difficult for them to remain powerful as most of my magic casters ended up using all of their spell slots not long after their first combat encounter. I gave them plenty of time for short tests and things, but I refrained from giving them a long rest as to encourage urgency in saving the druskenvalds. What do you suppose should happen?

Thinking of starting this campaign, but a little disappointed and need some help

I have never DMed before, but I wanted to give it a shot with this module because I hoped a pre written adventure would be easier for me to manage. I really enjoyed the premise, backed it up on kickstarter, and was very excited to get ready to Dm it. Now that I have read the greater majority of the book, I’m finding most of it… frankly pretty disappointing. To be blunt, while it is extremely visually appealing and very cool in that way, the writing is lacking. It’s often boring, very railroad-y, and yet at the same time so much of it lacks any real sort of guidance for the DM, leaving most of the actual important plot moments and lore to creative interpretation and improv, and as a new DM I am really struggling to figure out how to make this work.

So for those that have started the campaign, how has it gone for you? How have you managed to keep it interesting and engaging? I am also especially interested in the other provinces of druskenvald, it seems like a massive waste to have them completely excluded from the story, have any of you managed to alter the story in a way that involves those provinces more?

Help with running The Crooked Moon (first time DM)

So i have ever had one other campaign with 3 sessions in it, and now I am dm-ing The Crooked Moon (I'll refer to it as TCM) with 4 players, and 3 of them have never played D&D at ALL before, so it's a lot of pressure.

I've read through the first chapter of the campaign (like for the adventure, not the actual first) and still plan on reading more of course, but I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out what to say as who without saying to much, like i know for the wayward haints you just kinda make stuff up, but what would Adela and the Vagrant say? Just figuring out what people say and the narration is hard to me because I don't want to not say enough, or say too much.

I also did something to make this campaign unique, I let the characters be "Doppelgangers" of people. Being a Doppelganger lets them get abilities throughout the campaign as they level up, they also get a weapon at level one that works with their character, but after looking at some other posts about this kinda stuff, people say that people blaze through the first chunk and so i also want to know if I should move the stuff for later levels. If you want to know more about what they get, or who they are Doppelgangers of, you can ask me and I'll summarize them.

What did ya'll do with this npc? (Gms only)

In the chapter about wickermoor I love that Morgan is a blank canvas and they encourage you to do whatever with them. I wanted to make this post to not only hare what I did, but to see what others did.

What i did was I made them a resident of the hearts blight forest from before everything happened with gorthos. When the corruption spread and everything went to hell, i had their parents tell them to run as far as they could, and so they did in horror. They wandered for awhile not being able to rest due to the horrors they witnessed. Until one day they ran into mr. Crossroads shack. The lizard told Morgan that they could take all their pain away and make then forget everything b g that happened. A restart, if hou will. His price? His dreams and his slumber. In my games thats why Morgan constantly has blackouts, becuase mr crossroads took it. They made the deal, and then the last thing Morgan is ever able to remember is waking up in the village.

In my game mr crossroads has just died, so Morgan's sleep and rest has returned, and eventually their memories, which will be another hook into heartsblight forest.

Id love to hear what yall think about this interpretation, and pleass share your own uses of morgan.

Beast of Blight

I went a different direction than the art, but I'm happy with how she turned out! Such a fun model to paint. Can't wait to freak out my players 😆

Infested Outcrop - Hartsblight

The Map for Area F3. All the holes that the big bugs come out of are hidden near the trees. A small wall of insects is outside the wall of smoke as well. One of the greening bodies is holding the journal that is described in the description as well.

A Murder in Wickermoor Village

*****SPOILERS FOR POTENTIAL SIDE MISSION IN WICKERMOOR VILLAGE*****

So I'm going to go forward with the Gory Gus side mission, and this is the figure I made to represent his assistant embracing the darkness. In my Druskenvald there's an old book that's full of Necromantic powers that has corrupted people in the past. What I'm going to have happen is that this girl is given the book, and from it she's able to summon the spirit of Gory Gus to help him kill again (I'm still ironing out the details XD). Anyway, this is what she's gonna look like when the players confront her. Enjoy!

First time running the Crooked Moon, any tips?

As the title says, I’m a somewhat experienced DM who’s getting ready to start up this campaign with my group of 6 players. I’m just looking for any tips anyone might have for running this specific module.

My version of Jeremiah Stover

I have been working on re-making at least a majority of Wickermoor Villagers into some of the Druskenvald species. Jeremiah though is the exception - I'm using Guillermo Del Toro's version of Frankenstein and Mordenheim's Monster from the Ravenloft book as his inspiration for his appearance and backstory. One of my player characters (a Path of the Experiment Threadborn) has already decided she wants to romance him so she went and picked up a Farmer's Almanac from the bookstore - LOL.

When did the Shroud appear?

I might have missed something, but it says in the book that the shroud surrounding Wickermoor Hollow has alwsys been in place thus isolating its residents. But I saw some NPCs in the book coming from other provinces or have travelled throughout Druskenvald. Can anyone help shed light on this please?

DM Resource & Inspiration Thread

Hey y’all, I’ve been playing for 5+ years and DM’ing groups for about a year now! I am currently on session 7 for a party of 5 players adventuring in the CM campaign.

I thought it might be fun to share the different resources that have inspired me or increased my love of DnD over these 5 years! These are DM and player resources, fantasy genres, DnD books, YouTube series, and content creators I have found to be beneficial.

Let us know if you agree or disagree and any resources you think others should know about who also love DnD/Fantasy World Building! I’ll comment mine in the thread.

Thanks for your additions!
