First impressions

My GAN 17 arrived today - a couple of days earlier than expected! 😁

After playing with it for a few hours, here are my preliminary thoughts/observations. The GAN 17’s default settings are 3 & 7 and comes pre-lubed from the factory. I found the UV coating to be very slippery at first tho that got a bit better after a few solves.

The feeling of a new GAN cube is always magical for me and this cube is no exception. The cube is very fast, somewhat louder than its predecessor and the hand feel is light and papery. You can tell it has a ballcore as it feels ‘denser’ and is definitely more stable than previous GANs. Some people have reported a ‘rattle’ coming from the centre caps but mine does not have that issue.

I found the default magnet strength to be perfect for me so I don’t think I’ll be tinkering with those settings. The auto-alignment is practically flawless; I couldn’t test corner cutting as it would not let me put the cube in a 45 degree angle to test it.

I did about 50 solves with it straight out of the box before tightening and lubricating the cube. My settings are now 3 & 10 and I used Gravitas on the tracks, Dignitas and Silk on the pieces and after break-in, I adjusted the speed (made it a tad faster) with a bit of FZ-Stealth. This resulted to be incredibly addictive for me. Turning is light and airy, pretty forgiving too - I haven’t add any catches a very few minor lock-ups - and the sound has been dampened.

Have I found a new main? Maybe but I’ll need to do more solves with it (I currently main the Ferrocore V2 which is well tuned to my turning style and very comfortable). For now, theGAN 17 is definitely my practice cube. I have a comp in 10 days and if it performs to my expectations, it may be the one I’ll use. More to follow.

tell me everything you know about the moyu PBCUBE

its the current main of yiheng which he used to get his 2.77 and his AsR OH record, i also know that its a new line of moyu cubes designed around exactly how the worldclass cuber from moyu team wants it to feel (their most exact cube basically, and also im expecting more moyu team cubers to have their own versions coming after) and i also know that the logo is orange with the text "PB CUBE" on it. is there anything else that anyone knows about this cube?

Coming soon to your csTimer…

Wrapping up the first release version of my sidecar for csTimer.

I originally built this for myself, implementing all of the things that I wish csTimer would have:
- Better graphs/trend lines
- Automatic session grouping
- Better solve distribution view
- More fun stats (ex. what % of my solves are sub-10, what’s my longest streak of sub-15 solves)

I realized that some other cubers might find it useful so will be putting it out into the world very soon! Also wanted to mention that it automatically matches your csTimer colors so you are not stuck with the default theme don’t worry

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback in the comments, happy cubing!

Looking for Tips on Megaminx

Hello, I am looking to start practising Megaminx, as I have heard it's similar to 3x3 in F2L (and S2L). I have not done any timed solves yet, but I will start soon.

First off, hardware. I already have a DaYan GuHong Pro (I got it before the Pro+ was released, as well as before the YuHu V3) and I can't seem to find a good setting for it. I don't know, it's just locky at settings 1 and 2, and the rest are too tight for me.

Also, I want a more stable cube (dodecahedron) than the GuHong Pro, so I am looking at the YuHu V3 Ball-Core or the YuHu V3 DEVO (A mod by TheCubicle primarily focused on weight reduction, has coremags and semigloss, which I prefer over UV so I may get this one).

If anyone thinks I should get the GAN V2 over these, please speak up.

Anyway, what I know:

I haven't got a certain F2L/S2L face order (I know some are specific about that) other than I do white first.

What I do first is I create the white star, then either do corner-edge-pair inserting or do corner-first, then edge, depending on what I can find.

For S2L, it's pretty much the same thing, except I would randomly choose faces and complete said face's S2L based on what corner-edge pairs I can see are easiest.

I use a 4LLL method, orienting the edges first using F (Sexy) F' and F (R U' R' U') F' , and orient the corners using the upside-down, commutator trick, but I can orient the corners sometimes if it's a Sune-style case or something else that I carry over from 3x3.

For edge permutation/EP, I use (R2 U2' R2' U' R2 U2' R2') and its inverse for if the edges aren't adjacent and the J-Perm and Anti-J-Perm algs for if they are adjacent.

For corner permutation, I use the upside-down commutator, take a corner out and replace it with another, trick.

And a couple of things about technique, I don't abuse the table (that is, setting the cube on the table to turn); Instead, I hold it in my hands and brace one of the bottom-left faces with my pinky.

I have virtually no look-ahead, nor do I on any other event, so I kind of would like someone to help me with that.

I also spend most of my time locating pieces for pairs and whatnot.

Also, I can't really make the white star misaligned by a D move, with the pieces in positions relative to each other, so I can only insert star edges once at a time, really.

Finally, my turn speed without including pauses is still abhorrent and slow.

I would also really like to know what I should learn next, in terms of algorithm sets such as 2-look-last-layer, or techniques such as edge orientation (Like how people use in ZZ, not just in the last layer) and blockbuilding, kind of like Roux.

And that's it for this post. I will probably upload another post asking for tips on another puzzle.

cubing is weird

Whenever i turn fast, i get solve which are like 19sec+. When i turn slowly, i get 15sec+ solves. WHY? (Then yiheng should turn slow to beat xuanyi :] )

PB 26.108s as 2 months cuber

Is this a great achievement for me as a cuber?
Because I dont have enough time to actually learn full cfop due to being a college student so I got constant homework, assignments and lab reports.
Here the scramble, the cube and settings I used

Scramble : U2 B’ L F’ D R2 U’ R2 F’ R2 D2 B2 L2 D B2 R2 B2 L2
Website:csTimer.net

Cube : GAN16 MAGLEV MAX
Settings : Centre Travel-6,Tension-9,Magnet Rod-Green
Method: Beginner CFOP

Please help, how do I improve from here

You already saw my average, use cfop missing a couple pll algs and most of the olls. What are my next steps or what should they be

TheCubicle 5cc and 10cc syringes of Dignitas

So the other day, I made a post about how TheCubicle re-continued selling Empty Lube Syringes in 3cc, 5cc, 10cc and 30cc sizes, and how I may have helped because I sent an E-Mail requesting that they carry them again, among other things.

They also have been carrying 2cc sampler syringes of Angstrom Dignitas, but those are tiny, and they cost way more per CC than just getting a normal tub of Dignitas.

Now, they have syringes of 5cc and 10cc sizes for Dignitas for $5.99 USD and $10.99 USD, respectively.

If you're wondering, here's the E-Mail I sent:

"Hello, Team Cubicle. I have a couple ideas for products that y'all could make/sell.

FerroCore Series Core:

Pretty self-explanatory, I think it would be a good idea to sell the ball-core and screw holder parts for the FerroCore series so that people could put them into their own MoYu cubes that come with a plastic core such as the AoLong V5. Also, by "screw holder" parts, I mean the parts that keep the screws in place because the normal MoYu Dual-Adjustment System doesn't hold screws.

  1. Empty Lube Syringes

I remember back in around 2019 when you used to carry empty lube syringes , and I think it would be a good idea to start selling them again. The main reason is so people could put Dignitas in syringes, among other lubes, so that people could apply it much more easily without having to but lots of tiny samplers, but I also think it would be a good idea because your other lube bottles (the ones for Silk, Speedy, FZ-Calm and others) tend to break somewhat often, and the customers could put their lubes in said syringes. I would recommend you sell at least a 5cc, a 10cc and a 25cc selection.

  1. MoYu AoSu V7 Corner-Base to Edge-Base Magnet Mod Kit

This one follows the idea of the SteVin mod kit for the (discontinued) Vin4 4x4, which had corner-base to edge-wing magnets, and was also similar to the MoreTry TianMa X3 and the HaiTun WaveRider V1, but placed on the MoYu AoSu V7 Single-Track edition.

That's all for now. Just a couple ideas I had. If any of these ideas don't work, could you tell me why?

Also, I really support you and would donate to your company if I had the money, but I have tuition to pay... Anyway,

Sincerely,

(My name), fidgeter700@outlook.com"

And here is their reply:

"Hi Jessie,

Thanks for taking the time to write up these ideas. Regarding points 1 and 3, I have brought these up with the relevant team at our company, and they will certainly look into these in the future.

Regarding the empty lube syringes, you are correct that we stopped carrying those, but thank you for bringing it up — we will definitely consider offering these again. anyway.

-- Eric Customer Care Representative business@thecubicle.com"

And that's all I have for today.

Would you rather always use the phrase Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats instead of CRISPR or always use the phrase Cross F2L OLL PLL instead of CFOP?

Hello!

Did any of you cubers almost quit cubing because you had gotten into something more interesting? Because i had almost quitted cubing when i got into genetics. I still cube and still like cubing, just not so much. I got into cubing at August 2024. And then at May 2026, i got into genetics. But when i got into genetics, I’m already sub-20. I find the DNA thing more interesting than cubing. So i almost quit cubing. But still, even getting into that other thing isn’t going to undo whatever cubing did to me and I’m still a cuber. I find that genetics and cubing share a lot of similarities like how there are so many possibilities and that it’s like a puzzle. I was thinking about starting to edit DNA. And i don’t need to start from scratch, i can just transfer my skills that cubing improved to editing DNA, and actually learn how to do it.

This story felt unique, i had read about the other stories of the cubers making their cubing skills useful, but none talked about bio tech, genetics, or DNA which i find is weird because cubing and bio tech share a lot of similarities. And 1 can influence another.

What about your story of quitting cubing or almost quitting cubing because you had gotten into something more interesting while you are a cuber?

Help with cross intuition

Someone! please unlock my cross intuition. i dont knw why is this so hard. I cannot track where the pieces will go during inspection and plan out a cross solution. i can track 2, maybe 3 pieces but not all 4. i am sub 30 but i take 6-7 seconds in cross. I used to solve cross on top without alignment and would do a small algorithm to fix the cross (whether opposite or adjacent cross peices need to be switched). I am now trying to learn cross on bottom and putting the correct piece in its place without relying on an alg to correct it later. I already know the basics like solve relatively, and use good cross pieces to setup bad pieces etc. but its just not clicking. i have watched all of the jperm videos on this.

Moyu weilong v11 se uv coating

When my v11 arrived, i noticed a little mark on the red white green corner, on the red side of that corner is a little mark that doesn't want to come of, its permanent in the uv coating, also is it normal that there are little scratches out of the box, and i can only see them if i use my phone flash, but they are still hard to see
