So this happened about 1 month ago ago and I'm still kind of messed up about it, need to get it off my chest. Me and my girlfriend (together almost a year) were pretty solid. We never really fought. Then the "Meant To Be" song by Cuntsniffer got mainstream... this was the start of it all, because this made his controversies get more popular, plus allegations that honestly disturbed me. I'm not going to pretend it was nothing. It was bad. I like HIS songs, but not HIM. The problem was that she already knew that I listened to his music, I still had his music in my playlists, but she never put some interest on them, so id never think she would know about his allegations... lost it. I tried to explain, over and over, that listening to a song doesn't mean I cosign the person. I don't support what he said or did. I just liked some of his songs and I guess that was fine. But no, she wasn't having it. Said something like "if you actually cared you'd have deleted it the second you heard," and that "separating the art from the artist" was just an excuse people use to avoid accountability. I tried to say I do hold him accountable, I just don't think that my music taste is a reflection of my morals. Then she said it showed where my priorities were. We went back and forth for like an hour and it just kept escalating until she said she couldn't be with someone who "didn't get it" and left. I don't even really miss arguing about it at this point, I just miss her. But I also can't shake the feeling like I was being judged for something so disconnected from who I actually am as a person. Anyone else been in a spot like this? Where does everyone draw the line between the art and the artist, genuinely curious.
