Formentor Vs Focus

Someone crashed into me today and he came off much worse, says a good bit about the build quality

I was parked up, he was a taxi that came up from behind, turned left a bit too early and sideswiped himself along my car

Worst part is I spent 3 hours cleaning it yesterday

As bad as it looked, mine still came out much better, and the last pic is when I got home and "buffed out" the damage on the paint and removed his paint from mine

Worth repairing a 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ after a frontal crash?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth repairing my 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ or whether I should cut my losses and move on. I'd really appreciate opinions from anyone who's worked on these cars or has experience with VAG repairs.

Car:

  • 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ (310 HP)
  • ~57,000 km
  • Full frontal collision at relatively low speed (I hit the car in front of me at around 15-20 kmph)

Damage I know about:

  • Driver airbag deployed
  • Passenger airbag deployed
  • Driver knee airbag deployed
  • Seatbelts locked
  • Both headlights destroyed
  • Front bumper destroyed
  • Hood damaged
  • Radiator pack damaged and all coolant leaked out
  • Crash bar/front carrier likely damaged
  • Front sensors and ADAS equipment probably affected
  • No side airbags deployed
  • Chassis rails don't appear to be touched.

One thing that concerns me is that a few minutes before the accident, the car displayed Travel Assist unavailable and SOS/Emergency Call unavailable warnings. Then, during the collision, there was no automatic emergency braking whatsoever. I'm currently asking CUPRA to investigate whether those warnings were related to any ADAS malfunction.

My main concern now is the repair itself.

Questions:

  • Is this the kind of damage that usually turns into a money pit?
  • Assuming the chassis rails aren't bent, is this realistically repairable to OEM quality?
  • Would you trust the car again after replacing multiple airbags, seatbelts, cooling system components and front-end structural parts?
  • Are there any hidden issues that commonly appear on Formentors after this type of impact?
  • Roughly what repair cost would you expect in Europe? (OEM parts, proper repair, no shortcuts.)

I'm paying for the repair myself (no insurance payout), so I'm trying to make a rational decision rather than an emotional one.

Any opinions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Typo

Let’s go

Any technicians on this subreddit for advice?

I’m looking to get some advice off any technicians with knowledge about the rear taillight connections (both left and right side).

We have a RHD Cupra Formentor 2021 VZ1 model based in the UK, and we’re looking to import the car abroad. Currently have part number 5FF945307C on the car, and planning to replace it with part 5FF945307H for the purpose of illuminating the rear fog light on the left side for legal purposes.

Having given it a go this morning I found that the rear fog light would not illuminate at all. Even so I was playing around with my OBDEleven and modifying central electronic adaptations, I still could not get it to work.

Which makes me think, are the pin connections even correct? Do we need to add wires from the right pin connector to the left pin connector to get the rear for light working on the left pin connection?

Not sure if anyone else has faced this scenario before, would love to hear thoughts on your experience if so.

And no, we do not want to sell the car in the UK and repurchase abroad if we can help it, they’re much more expensive where we’re importing it to

Cupra Formentor 2.0

Cupra driving ass icons

Hey guys, i am completely new to Cupra and I was comparing the the driving assist packages.
Provided that I am traveling 150km highway 3 times a week, i am looking for something with full driver assistance. Does anyone know the difference between the driver assistance model in these 2 icons?

Strange electronic issues on my 2024 Cupra Formentor (won’t start, parking brake activates)

Hi everyone,
I have a 2024 Cupra Formentor 1.5 eTSI Mild Hybrid, and I’m experiencing some very strange issues.
A while ago, the car would occasionally engage the electronic parking brake and shift into Park during light braking. This problem hasn’t happened for some time, but now I’m facing something even stranger.
Sometimes the car simply won’t start. The dashboard turns on, all the lights and displays seem normal, but when I press the Start/Stop button, absolutely nothing happens. The only way I can eventually start it is by locking and unlocking the car multiple times. After about 10 minutes of trying, it finally starts.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
The dealership/service center told me it’s a software issue, but they haven’t provided a clear solution yet.
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cupra formentor v1 main battery is at 98% capacity wich is insane as it’s done 91k miles. But is it normal for it to drain so quick? Even when maintaining battery life on a motorway it drains. If I’m using hybrid mode it’ll literally last me the 25 miles it says on a motorway and take off some fuel?

Will the 2WD Formentor 1.5 e-Hybrid struggle on steeper slipways with 1500kg boat - trailer combination?

Hi guys,

I am looking at the Formentor 1.5 e-Hybrid (latest facelift) 2wd version for my new car. For me it would be the ideal car with the electric range (usually I don't drive more than 50 km a day), the pulling force and the ability to drive long distances on holidays without charging.

But one of the important demands is that it can pull my boat / trailer combination out of a steeper boat ramp. The combination weight is between 1400 kg (3086 lbs) and 1500 kg (3307 lbs) max. Currently I am using my European 8th gen Honda Civic (2.2 CDTI 140 hp, kerb weight 1322 kg (2915 lbs) ) to do the job. Small hatchback car, but most ramps work fine. Sadly, in my home town there is a ramp that has a slightly too steep angle. I am able to pull it out when a couple of friends help me to push the car (sounds ridiculous, but this really makes a difference). Lots of wheelspin though, but I do not mind a bit of extra wear on the tires.

I can actually manage it with almost zero wheelspin if I heavily slip the clutch, so it's not strictly a tire grip issue, it's a torque delivery bottleneck at 0 RPM. I basically have to sacrifice and burn the manual clutch just to keep the diesel engine from stalling under that initial launch load. So I would rather have wear on the tire than burned clutch plates, though.

The steeper slipway is the only struggle I have though. I haven't had any problems hauling this combination all the way from the Netherlands through the mountains of the French Alps.

Anyway, my new car should be able to do this without friends. But I am totally unsure if the Formentor can handle this. My first thought was that it would be an easy win for the Formentor because the electric motor has a massive amount of instant torque to pull it out of the water from a dead stop. I figured the massive torque of an electric motor would just take off smoothly at ultra-low speeds without needing to burn a traditional dry clutch. I might get wheelspin due to the front-wheel-drive weight transfer on the incline, but I don't mind putting my wife and kids in the front seats for some extra ballast over the front axle. But AI made some comments about how the DSG clutches slip and behave when launching on a steep incline under heavy loads, which made me doubt my assumptions. It also made some comments about an overheating protection system. I can "misuse" my Civic to haul it out the water, where the Formentor might simply refuse it a all.

So my question is, are there people over here that use the Formentor for hauling boats? How much does your combination (boat and trailer) weight? Do you have any problems with slipways? Or if there are no boaters here, maybe someone can give me some substantiated advice about how this wet DSG and e-motor setup handles steep ramps under a 1500 kg (3307 lbs) load?

Note: I know the 4wd would be a better choice, but this version is not for sale in the Netherlands (and if so, it is out of budget).

Digital Manual Installation completed

Every time I get in the car, these notifications pop up. Sometimes it's 2, sometimes like 10. It has been happening every day for the past 3 months.

Started happening after I had the car in the dealership for software updates.

Anyone else has this issue?

12v Battery Issues

Been having issues for a couple of weeks with the dreaded 12v battery on my 272 eHybrid VZ3. Not much warnings then suddenly it just won’t start and leaves me stranded. Taking ages to get in to see a Cupra dealer; over a month’s wait and it’s already been booked in a couple of weeks ago to get sorted.

Trying to keep the battery topped up and not stay on electric only power. 12.3v static test and 15v with engine running looks ok but clearly there’s battery damage since it can’t hold charge. The main hybrid battery obviously isn’t charging the 12v side. Could be the gateway issue and software but car is on latest update when it was bought in March when it was 6 months old.

Had to call Cupra Roadside Assist to come to the rescue as jump starting it is no longer working. With how common this issue seems to be you’d think Cupra would try to offer more of a drive in/out service rather than leave you waiting for several weeks just to be seen. To get an appointment I have to drive over 100 miles to get a courtesy car to then drive home and then back again a day or so later. Seems daft considering the known issue.

This is actually the worst behaved car I’ve ever owned but I still really like it.

Another very frustrated owner.

Fiord blue paint quality Leon

Hello guys, i have my leon for about 3-4 months and i dont know if im just extremely unlucky with people parking next to me, but i have several minor sctraches on my car (see photos).
For context - i have garage space in my work (walls on both sides so no one parking next to me) and at home im parking in the garden. Of course i park at the mall, stores etc. sometimes but thats what i always did with the cars i had before and nevěr had this problem. I always had white cars before (škoda octavia/ford focus) and never had this issue so im wondering if its just a bad luck or bad paint quality.
Does anyone have same problem or know what to do to prevent it?

Has anyone installed a 70mai dashcam on a Formentor?

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Formentor and am looking for an easy way to install front and rear dashcams without voiding the Cupra warranty. I have read good reviews about the 70mai, but I was wondering if anyone here has installed this model or has other suggestions.
