Then again, if you are someone with a genuine interest in engineering, CUSAT is definitely a good option. But still, the college itself is really bleak. Whether it's the engineering campus buildings or the labs, nothing is even close to each other; they are quite far apart. In the first year, you might have that initial excitement of joining, but that doesn't necessarily last. Like, by the time half the year passes, you'll feel a kind of exhaustion or boredom. Because even though it's in Kochi—which is the center of the city and such a vibrant district—the engineering at CUSAT, to tell you the truth, is really depressing. Some private colleges might have a much better vibe; even Rajagiri has a better vibe than this. But SOE (School of Engineering) in CUSAT is very, very bleak. We won't even feel like going to college daily, that’s the main thing. When we wake up in the morning, it's just a feeling of, 'Oh, I have to go to that miserable place again today.' There is no other entertainment, or even a place to just hang out and have some tea within the college itself. It is literally like a desert. There's just a small, tea-shop-like setup, and nothing else.
So, if you ask whether you can enjoy an engineering college life here, I don't think so. Because an accident already happened, no tech fests are being conducted anymore. Due to that accident, there are no tech fests. You might see some occasional events when the main campus or the CUSAT university union organises something.
Also, I feel like there is way too much politics in CUSAT. Honestly, it's unnecessary, because colleges with no politics have such an awesome vibe. Here, despite having so much politics and so many rights, we are still stuck in a situation like this, so what's the point? Then, everything—even the hostels—is in a pretty bad state. I don't know, it's up to you to decide. You should come and see the campus first, and then make a decision. Personally, I prefer going to government colleges under KTU. Look into government KTU colleges, or NITs and IITs. After all, you need a good vibe too when you are studying engineering, right? But if you don't care about all that and you don't need it, you can definitely study engineering here. It's really worth it because our certificate—a CUSAT engineering degree—holds a lot of value.
You have a great ability to study. If you have that 100% hardworking mindset, you can definitely choose engineering at CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology). But to be completely honest, engineering at CUSAT is really bleak. The CUSAT engineering campus is like a desert because within CUSAT itself, the engineering campus is located at the very corner of the campus . There is nothing there—no entertainment, nothing. Just buildings, and while it's not entirely a forest, it just lies there looking like a desert. That's the kind of place the engineering campus is. Even when it comes to the faculty, there is nothing on the engineering campus that gives you the motivation to even go to college daily.
Next, regarding the faculties—I don't know, the faculties in Safety & Fire Engineering, IT, and CS are better, but I've heard that the faculties in Mech (Mechanical), Civil, and a few other branches are pretty bad. Internal marks are a major issue. Compared to KTU (APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University), our exam papers are tough—it's really tough. So, only come here if you have that ability to study, if you are someone with that much capability and intelligence. Otherwise, never come to CUSAT without a genuine interest. People might think, 'Oh, it's Kochi, it's the center of the city, it's a vibe.' True, CUSAT offers great freedom for both girls and boys, but don't just think about that, come here, and end up failing your exams and struggling to study
Hey could someone explain what spot admission is and whether you can get admission with a lower rank than the ones shown on cusat website through this?
Then again, the freedom at CUSAT is amazing. If you are an engineering student in SOE (School of Engineering), let me tell you—you may or may not get a hostel. Getting a hostel when you join in the first year is tough, and it's unlikely in the second year too; the chances are low. If you have a reservation or something, you will get it; otherwise, you won't. So, you guys will end up staying in private hostels. None of the private hostels for boys have a curfew, except for a hostel called Opal House or Opal Homes. Except for that one place, there is no curfew for boys anywhere else. As for girls, if you look for PGs, most of them won't have a curfew either. If you want, you can go out at night and hang around. Even if you head back in late, it’s not really an issue; it’s a place without those kinds of problems. I think some new hostels do have a curfew, but mostly it's a place with no restrictions.
So, like I said, once you step out of SOE, it's actually a vibe—whether you want to go out or just roam around. But still, after a while, you will feel a major sense of exhaustion or boredom. Yeah, because for one, the academic pressure will really catch up to you, and the faculties are pretty bad. When all of that combines, you'll start feeling drained. The first year is actually quite fun. You might not feel like coming to college, but you can thoroughly enjoy that life in CUSAT outside of the college itself. However, as time goes on, you'll start getting bored of that too. That is the reality. It’s a feeling of getting tired of it as you stay on and on. Most people are likely to face that, especially if you also start going down academically—the probability of feeling that way is much higher.
In my own class, so many people have a lot of supplies (supplementary exams). There are people who still haven't cleared their supplies. So you can imagine the situation. Even during vacations, only half the students are actually on vacation; the other half still haven't even received their degree certificates because of pending supplies. There are issues like that too. So, CUSAT is pretty much like that
I got 319 🥲, any chance for fire and safety branch?
