Urgent - Rental subsidy

Long story short. We are a new DAAD batch whom have families and we do not understand the rental subsidy amount. We tried many times talking to the DAAD which always give vage answers and ask us only to provide rental agreements.

Is there anyone here who have a family doing PhD? If yes, how much rental subsidy did the DAAD give you? What city are you residing in? What is the rent a space, and of possible the rough calculation?

I am sorry for such post, but some of us are going to Heidelberg and Munich were rents start at 1000€. We need an estimation to decide what to take.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Does my profile have any chance?

Hi guys, I'm from Vietnam and plan to apply to a STEM program this October with the following profile:

- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems with a GPA of 1.9 (actually 1.97) (German system) for 278.94 ECTS

- TOEIC 810 + TCF B1 (French), my previous IELTS score was 6.5 (expired) and I will retake it next month

- I have over 4 years of experience as a mobile engineer: including at a large French open-source organization, and I was a team leader at a French startup company that received funding from the French government

I am looking for a master's program in Computer Science/Data Science/Artificial Intelligence

Does my profile have any chance or is it too low?

Thank you!

DAAD Motivation Letter

I am recently applying to DAAD Scholarship, I want a sincere opinion about my motivation letter, I know that it is one of the most important documents and I want it to be good enough. I am open to any suggestions

Motivation Letter

This is my motivation letter where I am going to state about my career path and my sincere interest in pursuing the master’s program Embedded Computing Systems in RPTU. My name is Maximiliano Martinez Contreras and I am from Mexico, currently I am 24 years old, and I just finished my Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineer at the time of this letter. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have progressively built a strong foundation in electronics, embedded systems, and computer hardware design. Each experience has contributed to defining the research and professional path that I wish to pursue through graduate studies.

My first significant professional experience was as an intern at Schneider Electric during my bachelor's degree. There, I participated in the development of data acquisition, processing, and visualization systems to support industrial decision-making processes. This experience provided my first exposure to a large industrial environment and allowed me to strengthen my programming and analytical skills while understanding how technological solutions are developed and deployed in real world applications.

Shortly before completing my undergraduate studies, I joined a university research team involved in the development of a satellite for Earth observation and natural disaster detection. As part of the digital design team, I was responsible for the design and implementation of a two-dimensional convolution accelerator intended for CNN based image processing applications. I contributed to defining datapath architecture, arithmetic operations, and memory organization before implementing the design in VHDL and validating it through simulation. This project was particularly influential in my academic development because it exposed me to hardware acceleration, digital architecture design, and FPGA based systems. It was during this experience that I discovered a strong interest in computer architecture and specialized hardware for computationally intensive applications.

Motivated by this interest, I decided to specialize in embedded systems during my undergraduate studies. This specialization broadened my understanding of the interaction between hardware and software, as well as the design of application specific systems. After graduating, I joined Honeywell as a Hardware Engineer, where I have been involved in the design and development of electronic systems that enable reliable interaction between users and digital platforms. Through this role, I have strengthened my practical knowledge of electronic circuits, system integration, and hardware development methodologies while working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

These experiences have provided me with both industrial and research perspectives and have confirmed my interest in advanced hardware design, embedded computing, and computer architecture. Also, they gave me the foundations to understand hardware-software systems and continue developing in this field of study. They have also shown me the limitations of my current knowledge and the need for deeper practical and technical expertise. For this reason, studying in Germany would greatly broaden my skills and overcome one of my biggest aspirations in life which is to be exposed to excellent education in an outstanding country, where I can enhance my professional and personal profile.

Germany has been my primary option to continue my post degree since it is recognized as one of the world's leading countries in engineering, technology, and innovation. For me, studying in Germany represents much more than obtaining a master's degree; it is an opportunity to learn in an environment where academic excellence, research, and industrial development are closely connected. I am particularly attracted by the strong relationship between universities and industry, which enables students to acquire both advanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

Among the different programs available, the Master of Science in Embedded Computing Systems at RPTU stands out because it perfectly aligns with my academic background and future aspirations. The program's focus on Architecture of Hardware-Software Systems, Design SoC Methodologies, and Embedded Systems Applications directly relates to my previous experience in FPGA design, hardware acceleration, and embedded systems. Additionally, this master’s degree proves to be excellent choice since it covers subjects such as Real-Time Systems, Multiprocessor Systems, RT-Level Design, Automotive Systems, System Software and so on. These are just some topics that caught my attention and drove me to choose this Master Program. Furthermore, its interdisciplinary approach will allow me to broaden my perspective beyond individual hardware components and gain a comprehensive understanding of complete computing systems. I am especially interested in developing advanced skills in the design of application-specific systems and hardware accelerators, which I consider essential technologies for the future of computing.

Upon completing my master's degree, I plan to return to Mexico and apply the knowledge and experience gained in Germany to contribute to technological development within my country. My goal is to contribute to research and development projects in academia or industry, focusing on the design and implementation of innovative embedded solutions and specialized hardware systems. In addition, I aspire to lead engineers and participate in research initiatives that promote technological innovation. I believe that the international perspective and advanced expertise acquired at RPTU will enable me to make more significant technical contributions and help strengthen the development of engineering in Mexico.

To sum up, my academic background, research experience, and professional career have reinforced my interest in embedded computing systems and computer architecture. I am confident that the Master of Science in Embedded Computing Systems at RPTU will provide the advanced knowledge and research skills necessary to achieve my professional goals. I am highly motivated to join the program and make the most of this opportunity for academic and personal growth.

Second scholarship

Hi everyone,

Could anyone that has received a second scholarship tell me how it affected their DAAD scholarship?

I already asked them but their answers are vague.

I know that any amount above 693€ will be reduced from what I receive. Is it reducted from the 992 i will be receiving monthly?

Is the private insurance they pay me affected?

Thank you very much.

DAAD STEM Scholarship 2027 – Am I eligible if my Master's starts in Winter Semester 2026/27?

Hi everyone,

I was recently admitted to the Master's program in Medical Informatics at FH Dortmund (Fachhochschule Dortmund), and my studies will begin in October 2026 (Winter Semester 2026/27).

While reviewing the DAAD STEM Scholarship call, I noticed that the selection results are expected in March 2027 and that funding appears to start in Winter Semester 2027. This made me wonder whether applicants whose degree programs start in 2026 are still eligible, or if the scholarship is intended only for students who will begin their studies in Germany in Winter Semester 2027.

I've already contacted the DAAD office in my country, but unfortunately I haven't received a response yet. I'm starting to feel quite lost about how the scholarship system works and what my options are. I'm worried about making the wrong decision regarding my admission and funding plans.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or received clarification from DAAD about this?

If I am not eligible, are there any other DAAD scholarships or funding opportunities available for students who have already been admitted to a Master's program starting in 2026?

Also, would it make sense to apply for the current DAAD call and, if necessary, reapply to FH Dortmund or other university next year, or is that generally not how these scholarships work?

Any advice, experiences, or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Need Guidance on DAAD Scholarship for Winter Semester 2026 (Indian Student)

Hi everyone,
I’m an Indian student who has applied for Master’s programs at German public universities for the Winter Semester 2026 intake and am currently waiting for admission decisions.
I would like to apply for a DAAD scholarship, but I’m a bit confused about the process and timelines. I have a few questions:
Which DAAD scholarship provides the monthly stipend of around €900–€1,000 for Master’s students?
What are the usual application deadlines for DAAD scholarships?
Can I apply before receiving my university admission offer, or do I need the admission letter first?
What is the complete application timeline, from application submission to final selection?
What documents are typically required?
Are there any tips to improve the chances of getting selected?
If anyone here has successfully received a DAAD scholarship, I would really appreciate it if you could share your experience and guide me through the process step by step.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Submission of degree after starting university

I received the master of all disciplines scholarship, but I’m still in my bachelors degree. I‘ll finish it in time but due to bureaucracy, I will receive it a month after starting my masters. Do you think this is an issue? Since I already got the admission from the uni and they just need it much later.

So has somebody received is bachelors degree after starting their master for the DAAD?

Edit: I called them, so ideally you‘d need your degree even before October. But yeah a bit more stressful but doable haha

DAAD Master's Study Scholarship Concern

Hi folks,

I have been awarded with the DAAD's scholarship for masters in all academic disciplines.
I have a concern regarding the validity of the scholarship for universities not mentioned in the application form.

I have been rejected from 2 (out of 5 programs/universities) mentioned in the application form. For the rest I am still waiting for the results. However, from let's call it University A for the Program 1 that I have put in the application form by DAAD I got rejected, but for the Program 2 from the same university I got accepted. They're both in the field of Information Technologies, just like my scholarship.

My question is, has anyone experienced a similar scenario and was allowed to use the scholarship to programs/universities outside the initial application form, but they are still in the scholarship's study domain (Information Technologies in this case)?

Many thanks.

HAW.International Scholarship: Anyone willing to share experiences or motivation letter pointers?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently preparing my application for the DAAD HAW International Scholarship for a semester study abroad in Australia (starting early 2027).

Since this scholarship is quite competitive, I wanted to reach out to you guys: Has anyone here successfully received the HAW International scholarship (or a similar one)?

I’m currently fine-tuning my letter of motivation and my study proposal. If you received the scholarship in the past, I would be incredibly grateful for any advice:

What did the DAAD selection committee focus on the most in your experience? (Grades, extracurriculars, or the specific reasoning behind your choice of courses/projects?)

Would anyone be open to sharing a outline or sample of their successful motivation letter just to give me some pointers on the tone, structure etc.?

Any resources, guides, or tips would be highly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance!
