Hair cut for thinning, fine hair

I’ve looked at suggestions but some places have closed, etc. I’ll go just about anywhere (although ideally Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, DC) for someone who knows how to cut my hair to make it look fuller. If they know how to do naturally curly-ish girls who straighten their hair all the time, even better.

Thinking of renting a place behind a fire station …thoughts?

From my research, every local jurisdiction does things a little differently with the noise/siren, so I’m curious if anyone knows what DC’s siren policy is? Are they always on while driving or only when there’s something in the road? Bonus points if you’ve lived directly next to a fire station in DC and have some thoughts!!

Staub or Le Cruset pls

I misspelled one of those names lol.

Help me pick! I cook a lot of meat, soups, etc., and just want a brand that’s durable with good customer service. A lot of companies have changed lately, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ve done a ton of research and still can’t decide.

Bra fitting for a trans girlie

My friend is in town today and really wants to go get an accurate measurement for her bra size.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places that are known to be trans friendly?

Apartments in DC

Hi, I’m looking to move to an apartment in DC (1br or studio). I was wondering if anyone had any apartment building suggestions that have a good view? I missed one in DuPont circle that looked over a lot of trees, which I’m really regretting now. I want a building with a concierge and a parking garage. I’d love a balcony although I’m less pick about that. I’m looking for <=3000 base rent.

Anyone tried selling old jewelry online instead of going to a shop?

Hi girls, I have a few pieces of gold I never wear anymore and honestly they're just collecting dust. And pawnshops are way too far from my place, but my friend mentioned skipping the pawn shop route entirely and doing it online is better. So I came across Unvault and was curious if anyone here has actually used it. Is it trusted to sell jewelry to them via online? Would love to hear real experiences before I go through the process.

Professional organizers?

I downsized to a 756 square foot apartment. I’ve gotten rid of a lot of things, but I need help organizing and finding a place for everything. Does anyone have any recommendations for professional organizers?

Nail Salon Recs

Can anyone recommend some good nail salons in the Washington, D.C. area? I’m particularly interested in salons in the northwest area, but I’m open to other options. That do gel x nails and great pedicures?

Doctor recs for a way overdue patient?

I haven't been to the doctor in probably ten years. I know--it just wasn't something I'd made a habit of doing and then as more time went on, I got even more anxious about it. I've told myself this is the year when I finally get myself together and go. I'm in my late 20s, generally healthy with no chronic issues (though I guess I can't be too sure about that either). Any recs for a kind, female doctor who won't be judgy? I'm located in Arlington by DCA.

Edit: I have BlueCross BlueShield, PPO plan, prefer in-network.

Apartment buildings nearby AdMo/Malcolm X Park

I am looking to move to an apartment near AdMo/Malcolm X Park area. My top choices in buildings so far are:

-Berkshire 15

-Ame at Meridian Hill

Does anyone have any insight on these buildings? Alternatively, would you recommend any other buildings in the area?

Would love a 1-bedroom place, maximum $3k/month (but am a bit flexible). Please let me know if you have any advice. I really appreciate it. A bad apartment building is my worst nightmare.

Endometriosis Specialist Who Won't Insist on BC?

Hey all,

I know the topic of endometriosis specialists comes up pretty frequently here but does anyone have any recommendations for a doctor who won't insist on experimenting with different hormonal birth control medications? I was recently incidentally diagnosed with endo via MRI (didn't even know that was possible) and would like to have an honest conversation about laparoscopic excision with a surgeon rather than spar with someone who repeatedly insinuates that an IUD is the only practical option because "it will just grow back" despite my protestations. Aside from not being satisfied with that route of treatment, I have resolved a number of health issues in the past and don't want to risk them coming back due to bc.

I'm currently on DC Medicaid (Medstar Family Choice) but that may change in 6 months so I'm eager to hear about anyone's positive experiences, regardless of insurance accepted.

Summer Activity Idea: Fostering with Tiny Cat Animal Rescue! 💕🐈🐱✨

Hi girlies, while I've been funemployed (thanks DOGE!), I've been volunteering with Tiny Cat Animal Rescue, which is a small, all-volunteer cat rescue and growing community of cat lovers based right here in Northern VA, DC, and MD. Right now we have an especially urgent need for kitten fosters and mom-and-kitten fosters. If you’ve been curious about fostering (or even adopting) but weren’t sure where to start, now is a great time to make a difference by fostering (plus you get kitten snuggles!!)!

No experience is needed—just communication, kindness, willingness to learn, and the desire to help get cats into safe and loving forever homes. And as a small rescue, we are there to directly support you in person, by text, and by phone. Once we receive your questionnaire (linked below), we’ll send you an email or text to schedule a call to learn more about your cat experience, lifestyle, preferences, and when you can start fostering so we can find the right match for you.

Feel free to drop questions in the comments—we’d love more neighbors in our foster network!

Tailor recommendations for a short notice

My fiance and I are doing a small little ceremony on July 11th. I found a dress online that was about $60 that I absolutely adore. It came yesterday and I am so sad because it is too small. Can anyone recommend a tailor that could change out the zipper back into a corset back, add in some cups for support so I dont need a bra, and fix the neck so it isn't as tight? I know I am asking for a lot but I am hoping it won't cost an arm and a leg either.

These are photos of the dress front and back:

Nail Saloon + Dazzle Dry

I feel like I’m going crazy but has anyone gotten a Dazzle Dry manicure at Nail Saloon? They never last me more than 1 or 2 days, while literally every other salon I go to Dazzle Dry can last me over a week easily! Has anyone else experienced this?

Edit - just found an old post in this sub with a bunch of people having the same problem so apparently it’s not just me!

Anyone here know of an ortho/dentist here that has effectively done Invisalign without the attachments? I just hate how the attachments look lol. Or maybe even lingual braces?

Cremation

Hi, friends, sorry for the biggest of all bummers!

Does anyone have any better experiences with cremation in the area, or any places they'd firmly counsel against?

I appreciate it's a small potato in their line of work, but trying to coordinate cremation for a soon-to-be-lost pregnancy and am feeling overwhelmed.

Wedding advice for 50 guests!

Hi all,

My fiancé and I are planning a (quick turnaround) wedding for December 2026 in the DMV. We plan to keep it at 50 guests or less. I am so overwhelmed
with options and have inquired with planners, venues, etc. We don’t have a super tight budget but I don’t want to spend an insane amount of money on this.

We are hoping to find a more historic or unique looking venue (ie, nothing super modern or stuffy like a hotel ballroom). I’d be open to doing the ceremony and reception in different places. We will pay more for really great food (I love to eat) but I’m loathe to spend a lot of money just for a venue…

I’d love any and all advice about small(er) weddings in the area. If you’ve had a great experience or have recs, please send them my way!

Physical therapy: postpartum / C-section ?

Hi! Does anyone have recommendations for a physical therapist? I had a C-section and my core feels absolutely destroyed from the surgery (& from pregnancy) so I’m specifically looking for someone to work with me on that! Maybe some pelvic floor therapy as well. Thank you!!
