Hi everyone — this is hard for me to post, but I’m a single mom of 3 trying my best to stay afloat. I’ve been job searching for 9 months with no luck, while doing DoorDash, babysitting, and side gigs to get by.
I’m also trying to start a small coffee/ matcha pop-up business to create something stable for my family. I made a small wishlist of supplies to help me get started, and I’d be incredibly grateful for any support, advice, or even shares.

i have loved japanese media for several years now and jp music is no exception, so i want to find people in my area (preferably the dmv or pennsylvania) who also enjoy it! even if u are not in an area mentioned, i'd love to hear your song/band recs! :) as much as i like rock, it can be any genre!

a few bands i love are kessoku band, ENOZ (the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya), FLOW, southern all stars, home made kazoky, after school/hokago, tea time (K-ON), THE ORAL CIGARETTES, etc (some are more rock than others lol). i like english rock, but not as much as j-rock lol. i'm also a huuuge vocaloid fan! 💝

i am currently learning to play the electric guitar, and have loosely thought of the idea of maybe being in a band one day! if i were to ever do that, though, i'd need to find people around me who are interested in this type of music (hence this post Imao).

Hey everyone—30M here. My parents are likely moving to the Virginia / Washington, D.C. area soon, and there’s a real chance I may go with them, which honestly feels both exciting and terrifying.

I’m originally from upstate New York, and I’ve always loved New York City. I love big city energy, walking everywhere, meeting people, art, photography, and feeling like anything can happen.

Part of what scares me is starting over.

In NYC, I at least know some people. In DC, I do have family, but I don’t really have friends or a social circle yet. Starting over at 30—new area, new people, new connections, new opportunities—feels intimidating.

I’ve also heard mixed things:
Some people say DC is an amazing place for ambitious people, networking, and building a life. Others say it’s too political, career-focused, or lacks the raw creative energy of NYC.

A few people have even suggested Baltimore because of the art scene.

So I’m curious:

For people who chose DC over NYC… why?

Especially if you’re creative, entrepreneurial, dating, trying to build community, or just figuring life out in your 30s.

What does DC do better than NYC?

And for creatives—did you find your people there?

For the life of me I can’t find an electrical outlet to use to vacuum my car. I live in an apartment in Columbia, but my apartment doesn’t remotely reach the garage. I have everything I need to do it except an accessible electrical outlet. I’ve looked into a ton of options, but all would require significant capital investment in things like a generator or a massive battery.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find an electrical outlet (within 25 feet of a road for my extension cord and vacuum)?

I’d also be willing to pay if someone could let me hook up to your house. I live in Columbia, so I can pay whatever BGE charges (and maybe some more for the inconvenience). Happy to meet up beforehand to introduce myself.

Hello everyone!! I graduated from Duke University 4 days ago and moved back to VA yesterday! I’m on the search for a job this summer and was wondering where I can look for temp roles! I’ll do front desk, be a manager (of any kind), serve, babysit, social media, open to any and all. I come with good work experience and a great attitude! For almost a year now LDC DC has been terribly mismanaged and the employee have been used and abused by the current GM. The current management has put employees and guests at constant risk by refusing to fix clear and obvious safety issues that have been REPEATEDLY brought to their attention by both staff and guests over the past year. Some (but not all) of these issues include:

- Mold in the 4D fog machines

- Dirty and damaged mascot suits that have made multiple members of staff sick from wearing them.

- Lack of proper ride training and ensuring of competence before certifying staff on the dark ride.

- Lack of proper training on fire safety and evacuation procedures.

- Sewage water in the Hero Zone playground that the General Manager and Regional Manager forced the staff to reopen despite being improperly “cleaned” due to a corporate visit from Lego.

And this isn’t even mentioning how the General Manager has covered up thefts at this location, violated labor laws by retaliating against any employees who dare be open about their concerns (even expressly telling some employees they aren’t allowed to utilize official channels to report his misconduct), hired his personal friends into various positions to spy on his employees, and so much more.

The staff of LDC DC have tried every official, proper channel to have something done about this, but thusfar nothing has ever come of it as the members of Merlin’s HR staff (though I suppose I should say former as they are now technically Lego HR staff) are quite keen on shielding the General Manager and his friends from any accountability for the hostile, abusive, and unsafe working conditions they have brewed. So, this is my last resort. This is my last go at having something done and hoping this attraction can return to the happy place it once was. Please, internet, I know I may be screaming into the void here but I’m out of options. Please help.

EDIT: Forgot to mention how the GM has fired people he doesn’t like/think will whistleblow for comically petty reasons while covering up the fact his close, personal friend, the commercial manager, provably stole a $500 set and faced no consequences. Or the Operations Manager breaking ride evacuation protocol with no consequences. Or the Bookings Coordinator also breaking ride safety protocols with no consequences.

Worth mentioning also is how he and all the above mentioned staff cannot do a single aspect of their jobs without ChatGPT. Every email and document they write is created with it.

My boss has asked me to book an activity last minutes for mothers days. Everything seems to be sold out. I’m looking in Solomon’s island/ Annapolis area. I am already on several cancellation lists. There are two young children that would be joining in on festivities too. Any help would be appreciated!!
