Living in Denmark, first time going out from my country.

Hi, I'm about to move to DTU to start my MSc program. Since I have never had a chance to move out of my country, I'm feeling a little anxious.

So, there are a few things I would like to ask regarding the culture and living in DTU, Copenhagen, and the Danish community.

My background is East Asian culture, and Denmark is not a familiar country to people from my country when it comes to moving or living abroad. Also, it seems like Asians are a minority there. So, is it fine to live in Denmark as an Asian person?

I wish to become more familiar with English after my two years of study. At first, I was thinking of going to an English-first-language country, but DTU offered such a good curriculum and program. I found that Denmark has a very high level of English proficiency, but I would like to ask about real-life experiences.

Do DTU students move to other countries a lot for jobs after graduation, or do they mostly stay in Denmark and Copenhagen?

PhD offer with MSc Thesis company

I'm currently finishing up my MSc thesis and the project supervisor from the company I'm doing the thesis with has asked if I would be interested in continuing this project in a PhD position. The company has great collaboration with DTU and suggested I could either continue working on the project as an academic PhD candidate (which is easier to get approved) or as an industrial PhD candidate (which can be complicated and tricky to get approved). What's the difference in requirements between the two?

How likely is such a position to get converted to a full time position with the company? And what's the difference in salary between the PhDs? I don't have any work experience in my field. However, I do like the project and my supervisor. What is the job prospects like after PhD in biomedical engineering if for some reason the company can't convert me?

I'm aware the base salary is enough when living alone. But is it manageable with a non-working spouse (while he searches for a job)?

Thanks in advance!

Ms.c. Præsentation

Hej,

KKIK waitlist for Copenhagen August Move in

Hello everyone!

I’m moving from London to Copenhagen in late August to start my MSc at DTU, and I'm getting a bit anxious about the housing situation.

I applied for accommodation through KKIK in early March but still haven't heard back with any offers. Right now, my most likely option seems to be Kagsåkollegiet. I’m currently number 19 on the waiting list for a room type that has 88 rooms in total. Im looking to move in around 18th August and have set a preffered move in date of 15th August.

I thought i would here something back by June but am getting slightly worried now given its now July. I was hoping to get some insight from locals or current students on their experience with KKIK and if i have nothing to worry about or if i should look at alternatives.

Any advice, personal experiences, or tips would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Master thesis defense duration

Out of curiosity, how long is a master's thesis defense at DTU normally take? How is the time typically split between the presentation, the Q&A/discussion, and the grading/feedback? I'd love to hear from anyone who's been through the process. I will first have my thesis next year, but is just curious

🚀 Drone Up-Start

Hi everyone,

We’re a group of DTU students preparing to launch a drone startup this summer. Over the next two months, we’ll be designing, building, and testing a fully autonomous fixed-wing drone from the ground up.

This is an opportunity to be part of something from day one—whether you're interested in drones, engineering, software, AI, product development, or simply want to build something ambitious with a motivated team.

We’re holding our very first kickoff meeting next week, and we’d love to welcome anyone who is curious and interested in joining the journey.

Feel free to reach out or leave a comment if you'd like to be part of it! ✈️

Guide to DTU document for new students

Hey guys! I found myself keeping a document of everything I need to do before coming to DTU, notes from webinars, and things that I have researched. I decided to turn it into a more "polished" version and I hope that this can help incoming students feel less overwhelmed. This document has things like how to find housing, apps that will be helpful in Denmark, scheduling and exams, CPR, MitID, etc.

The document isn't super fancy. If anyone has suggestions on what I should add or things that are inaccurate/what I should change please let me know! I would appreciate any feedback. I have it published as a Google Doc for right now, but if there is a better way to publish this, let me know.

Is it hard? - Quantitative methods sustainability

Hello,

Planning the timetable.

As a first-semester student, is it hard to go through Quantitative Methods Sustainability with 30ECTS?

The school recommends 30 ECTS, and I'm thinking of adding 5 ECTS more. I'm wondering if this is a bad move as a first-semester student.

I Lost My Camera

Hi there! I am a study abroad student here for the summer and I lost my camera. It is a red canon powershot SX 600 with some damage to the display screen. I really want it back because it has photos of my time in Copenhagen so far. I left it in a Dott bike basket this morning :(

Any resources like a central lost and found would be much appreciated!! I really want it back.

Korean Street-food truck

It seems like a lot of people at DTU would be sad to see the Japanese & Korean street food truck disappear.

Especially if the reason is pressure from the canteen provider because they feel they cannot compete. More food options on campus should be a good thing, not a problem.

Would people be interested in signing a petition to keep it?

Also, does anyone know the best platform for making a petition, and who the final result should be sent to?

EDIT: yes, it‘s confirmed they are staying open!!

Supervisor Suggestor

At the Section for Cognitive Systems at DTU Compute, we have been experimenting with a way to help students find a suitable thesis advisor. Last week, I set up this Web app (you need to be on the DTU network to use it! So VPN into DTU if you want to try it from remote):

http://neuro.compute.dtu.dk/supervisor-suggestor/

It is based on scientific publication data as recorded in Wikidata - only the title of the publication. This data is not complete with lots of potential DTU supervisors and their publications missing, - so it could mislead a student.

The bottom of the page lists a few points, e.g., "The matcher returns researchers that might not formally be able to act as primary supervisor, e.g., PhD Students, Postdocs, emeritus and others, but they might be able to facilitate. The matcher may also show researchers no longer affiliated with DTU."

The Web app also does not tell you how "loaded" the supervisors are, i.e. how many projects a supervisor handles. Neither about the "chemistry" of a supervisor.

Let me hear if you got any problem with the Web app.

Job opportunities after PhD

I'm a non EU citizen, and I will start a PhD program at DTU in this coming summer. My field is biotechnology. I have a couple of questions about job opportunities after this program to somebody who have been through this, or are familiar with it.

First, how does the job recruiting work for PhD students? I know we will get a 6-months job seeking VISA when we finish our program, do PhD students usually start seeking their jobs after PhD program or in the parallel with it? Since job search in Denmark is really competitive, I'm really not sure I can find a job in a half of year...

Second, does learning Danish language help for job opportunities? I heard that most of international companies don't require Danish language but I am willing to learn if it helps.

Thank you

Help regarding addmision dtu or nitw

This post is not mine it is of my one friend please help me everything written ahead is written by him thankyou

Hi everyone,

I'm really confused between these two options and would appreciate some honest advice from seniors.

My options:

- NIT Warangal – Chemical Engineering

- DTU – Mechanical Engineering (Outside Delhi candidate)

A little about me:

- I'm not particularly passionate about either Chemical or Mechanical.

- My long-term goal is to build a business/startup, but I also want decent placements as a backup.

- I may consider an MBA later, but nothing is fixed.

- College life, peer group, opportunities, internships, alumni network, and overall exposure matter a lot to me.

02402 Statistics Re Exam

Is there going to be an 02402 re exam in August? I know there was one in June, but I was hoping to do it in August since I need to go back to Denmark for a second class around that time. But now when I try to sign up for 02402 with regular re exams, there is no option to do it. Is there any info I’m missing, or am I just screwed?
