As we all know, remakes have become a very big part of the gaming industry to the point that it feels like we're getting more remakes than actual new games from AAA studios, and who can blame them? It's a risk free way to get sales, but i also think most games do not need it,

The problem is, did these games really age so badly they cannot be played by a modern audience? If you ask me then no,

Like why are we having a remake of god of war 1? That game is still really good and I'd argue better than god of war 4, why remake every resident evil game? The originals are still as scary and tense as ever, why remake the old yakuza games? They still hold up really well...etc

Well, obviously people want remakes to experience these games in a modern look and feel, but that is a trap imo, alot of the times these games tend to lose what makes them special in the remakes, like, resident evil 4 remake as hailed it was by people was still a disappointment to me as a fan of the original, the word "modernize" almost feels synonymous with "make it generic and safe",

Thankfully alot of people are realizing good graphics don't matter much and could even hurt the experience at times, this is shown by the rize of low poly games like signalis, crow country, pseudoregalia...etc and with that are realizing alot of the old games they loved don't need s remake and can just be played as they are.

All of this still doesn't take from the fact that some games so indeed need a remake or atleast the remakes can be argued to be strictly better versions, like crash bandicoot and spyro remakes which aren't much different mechanically but added a massive visual upgrade, Nier replicant remake which overhauled the not so good combat of the original...etc

So what do you guys think of video game remakes? Do you like them? Hate them? Think some games need remakes and others not? Or are you an original experience purist?

I wanted to share an awesome discovery for those who, like me, grew up with games from the 80s to the 2000s.

The website Retroachievements lets you replay all our childhood games (NES, SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, Game Boy, etc.) but with a system of achievements (challenges, badges) like in modern games! It's an incredible way to rediscover these classics.

I've started using it and it's truly wonderful. I wanted to share this passion with you.

Hi guys so last year I was wondering and didn't find a game to play No passion to try new games cuz most of it was boring and I stumbled on a game called yakuza 0 and what a game i cried and laughed and felt sad and happy so I did what anyone do i finished 0 and jumped to kiwami 1, kiwami 1 was good game but not like 0 and then kiwami 2 and omg it was a drastic change the new dragon engine was great but they throw the fighting style idk why they did it but it was a beautiful game and I finished all the series and now im played like a dragon not a bad game but the turn base thing not a fun of it but the story is cool tho btw I didn't mention the character like kiryu and majima, my favorite character is majima and my less favorite game is 5.

Anyone who's got RE9 and willing to add me to their family? I've got a pretty decent selection of games to add to the table too.

I got a switch 2 last week which is my first nintendo console in more than 15 years (my last one was a nintendo ds back in the old days).

For now i'm playing mario kart world, breath of the wild, donkey kong bananza, splatoon 3 (i suck), mario maker and others.. (i'm really struggling to pick a pokemon game since gamefreak doesn't look like they can make a game).
