I also have a theory based on Fool’s Table

I think that Mai and Teruko are kind of the current generation’s Junko and Mukuro (minus them being related of course, because A, there’s no sign of that, and B, I like them more as doomed toxic Yuri), but with a bit more depth

I think Mai is the Junko, orchestrating events, watching from behind the scenes, manipulating everything so the pieces fall into place. Whether she caused a second tragedy is uncertain

Teruko is her Mukuro, being manipulated by Mai (but also being almost equally responsible). Mai got her into this. She’s the one inside the killing game, and is remorseful.

What I think happened to them is that both of them were screwed over by society, based on the lyrics and what we have of Teruko’s backstory. They were let down over and over, and the place of hope that was meant to save them turned out to be extremely corrupt. And so, they decided to crush society under their heels and dance on the shards, no matter what it cost. This got to the point of them turning against their class and starting the killing game, to get back at the world that failed them.

Honestly, I doubt you could say it’s a bday fanart anymore cuz it’s nothing birthday themed, besides I literally started this back on late march, and very inconsistently picked it back up to redo everything. But I guess posting near her birthday makes it somewhat so?

I started this based on the song thinking it related to her very well, but I just recently realized it’s maybe actually much less so, since the purpose of that self-destructive act/tendencies is different in the song when compared to Veronika’s canon, but I guess it still fitted that side of her i think?

Sorry for being so late to post this, since I was very unsatisfied with my work every few days, and had to constantly rerender and stuff ;_; I was still feeling it just looked a bit lackluster and messy, especially the hair omg— but still here I am posting it. So yay?

(Also, I'd like to apologize if drawing scars on Veronika would be to be deemed insensitive or romanticizing it. I personally headcanoned her having them on other places, but deemed it fitting to slightly show them for the piece since it centered around that. And yet, I just admittedly wasn't quite familiar with the topic and it could seem somewhat amateurish/cringy with my drawing skills— I hope anyone reading this could understand, thanks. )

When he is doing a rebuttal showdown with Teruko saying that he killed Arei while Teruko says he didn’t, he doesn’t initiate it with “you’re wrong” or anything like that
He initiates it with “As if I believe that shit”
So ik he knows he isn’t the blackened, but what if he does kinda blame himself for her death?
(I am aware that this is probably just to fit his personality, similar to his previous objection being “You can do better then that”, I just think it’s cool to read too deep into it lol)
