What should I buy?

I read the extensive guide in this subreddit, but I still have doubts on whether I should buy the original game or sunless city. I own nothing, but I plan on buying some expansions I like (including Ariamis, which I know to be a v2 core set). I'm more prone to buying the original game (more content), but is it that tedious? Can I play with the updated ruleset and is it actually more fun? Is it possible to mix and match without too much trouble between old sets and new ones, or should I forget v1 even existed and start with the new core sets for ease of use?
Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions with obvious answers but I am losing my mind.

Finally Collected Every Soulsbornekiroring Board Game Ever Released + All Expansions/Promos/Exclusives!

Going to be playing everything eventually (however long that takes), so shrink wrap's coming off every little box.

Started with the Dark Souls Board Game V1 core after an Amazon Christmas season purchase in 2018, then bought the two cores for the DS and BB card games during the next year's Amazon Cyber Monday sale. Played all three of those core games only about once or twice each, then completely and utterly forgot about them after I left for college.

In the meanwhile, never bought expansions for anything, nor anything related to the Bloodborne Board Game.

Then I returned from college, looked through my old stuff, and finally remembered that Soulsbourne Board Games existed. Did some preliminary research online and was glad to hear they made expansions for everything while I was gone.

So I thought: "Might as well go collect everything. Might be expensive though - probably going to have to spend like $1000 for everything."

Yeah, I was wrong.

Unofficial set: Irithyll of the Boreal Valley

I've been working on my V2-style Irithyll set for.. quite some time. And now, there's a Tabletop Simulator mod for it! Here's what's there:

  • 8 new enemies: Cathedral Evangelist, Fire Witch, Irithyllian Assassin Slave, Irithyllian Beast-Hound, Irithyllian Sorcerer Slave, Irithyllian Warrior Slave, Pontiff Knight, Sewer Centipede.
  • 2 new bosses: Sulyvahn's Beast mini boss and Pontiff Sulyvahn main boss.
  • 27 normal encounters, 9 for each level 1-3.
  • 6 "shortcut" encounters, 2 for each level 1-3. You get these by completing a Trial on certain encounters. Completing the Trial unlocks a harder shortcut version of the same encounter with increased rewards.
  • 4 new boss treasure cards.
  • Scripted campaign setup: automated character, campaign dashboard, treasure deck, event deck setup.
  • Scripted encounter setup: tiles, enemies, and terrain automatically set up.
  • An optional display window that shows, for the current encounter, the objective, rewards, ongoing effects, Timer-based triggers, etc.

Not everything has been thoroughly tested yet, though I'm pretty confident about the level 1 encounters and most of the level 2s. Having a fully functional TTS mod will also help me test and tweak, but I'm very open to feedback from the community!

For the print-and-play crowd, everything is available on Google Drive. The set requires either The Sunless City or the V1 core set + Explorers to play (the mod uses the tiles from Painted World, simply because of the snow). https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pI6WzBC1x1hCcmdvmByXMZCwFfaaDNUI?usp=sharing
