The mystery of the durian seeds

So this has cropped up a few times in other threads I started/commented in, but it seems like some people get durian seeds from Jepun and some don't, and I'm curious if anyone has a theory as to why this is.

I've nearly finished the entire DLC - have maxed every villager but Bima, am only missing one lizard, and just got the last beetle quest, after finishing the entire main story. But even though I check Jepun's shop every day, I have never gotten any durian seeds - only dragonfruit, watermelon, honey melon, and pineapple. I don't know if there's something I've missed, if it's just an exceptionally bad RNG issue, or what.

The only thing I can say I haven't actually maxed out is the levels of the excess employees - I've got the billionaire guy as my cook, then the little green man and the country singer as my servers, all to level 10. I didn't bother with anyone else except the living genshin guy because he was one of the first I recruited, but I can't imagine that any of them - and why are there so many of them, anyway? - not being leveled up would cause this. But maybe it does! I'm just kind of throwing spaghetti at the wall at this point.

So as I said, I was wondering - does anyone have any idea why this might be? Have the devs mentioned it at all?

EDIT: I guess the solution was complaining because for the first time I just got durian seeds in Jepun's shop and I didn't do anything different lol

Into the Jungle "post game" feels like it's missing an entire tier.

The end-game of the new DLC has an entire tier of upgrades that... don't really need to happen and don't really provide a benefit.

>The gold pickaxe offers exactly one benefit versus the silver one - you can mind gold in 3 hits instead of 6.... except the only reason you need gold is for the gold pickaxe in the first place.

>The gold axe has no discernible benefit over the silver one, except it reduces teak trees from 3 hits to 2, which are a whole tier lower anyway.

>The final tier of weapon upgrades require uncommon resources from the handful of end-game hostile enemies, which only appear after clearing the last major boss-fights.

>The electric scooter basically isn't obtainable until literally everything else is done, hours after you get the basic scooter

>The fruit garden is basically pointless and has an entire mutation mechanic that is barely relevant

>The game never introduces a way to farm up a bunch of the recipe resources like tamarind

>3rd heart relationships basically unlocks all content for characters, 4-hearts is otherwise pointless.

It just really feels like there was an entire extra layer of depth intended that isn't here.

There's been some rumours that the DLC itself will get further downloadable content; I half wonder if it was planned from the start and cut due to time constrains?

Jungle DLC - No resource drops underwater after the latest Steam patches

Hi everyone,

Since the latest Steam patches I've been having a strange issue.

Whenever I dive:

Rocks don't drop any minerals when I break them.

Cooking pots don't drop any ingredients.

Seaweed doesn't give anything when I cut it.

Everything else seems to work normally, but I can't collect any of these resources anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this after the recent updates? Is there a known fix, or should I report it as a bug?

Thanks!

Amazing DLC! Kudos to Mintrocket

Just got a chance to play the DLC. This DLC really tugs my heartstrings. I grew up in the southeast Asia and they really did their homework on it. Like the names of the villagers (e.g Chinta means love) and they captured the Borneo feeling real well. And man, don’t get me started on the calamansi!!! And durian??!!!

This is an awesome DLC. All the cutscenes feel like a fever dream. Thank you Mintrocket❤️

FYI: I’m maybe halfway through (?). At the point where I just unlocked the farm.

Am I stupid? Or I am I missing something with this puzzle?

I moved the statue into the exact position that the mural in the background has, but nothing happened…

I’ll be that guy

When are we going to talk about this mini-game & what in THE HELL the devs were trying to say with it? It took me about 10 minutes to beat this. Not at all because this mini-game was hard, but because I was laughing about as hard as I did when I saw Garrison unveil “IT” because he hated air travel.

Marinca Help

I’ve been searching online and I keep seeing a Marinca Card tracker mentioned that can be viewed by pressing up on the D-Pad. I don’t think I’ve unlocked it yet, despite being in the Glacial Area portion of the game. Could anyone help me out? Everything online is so vague, and I just wanna be able to see which fish I haven’t three-starred yet while underwater.

Serving stamina

One thing I really wish we could get is upgrading our stamina while at the restaurant. Like I know the goal is to hire people but I really love the serving part of it

Fishing

Man I was so excited for fishing but my elbow can't take the "mash A to reel" thing very much ): how well does the accessibility setting work where you can hold the button? I know in base Dave the Diver, if there was even a remote struggle it wouldn't be enough to catch the fish. Thank you for your help!

Crossover Advertisements Have Overwhelmed This Game's Identity and Aesthetic

My biggest issue with In the Jungle is the sheer, overwhelming volume of venal crossover content.

The amount of this game's content that's openly advertising space, sold to everything from struggling YouTube musicians to other game studios, is catastrophic. A large portion of the cast - particularly among questgivers and the restaurant staff - consists of characters who clash with the game's aesthetic, contribute little or nothing to the story, and exist primarily as references to properties outside the game I've already purchased.

The expansion includes numerous one-off minigames which exist exclusively to support these advertisements. More than once I found myself wondering how much development time was devoted to promoting other properties rather than deepening the systems, characters, and setting that made Dave the Diver appealing in the first place.

The constant stream of guest appearances becomes distracting, pulls attention away from Dave's world, and weakens the game's identity. The characters of this world should be engineered from the ground up to contribute to the aesthetic and story (this should go without saying). It's painful, constant, and high-volume; it's disengaging and it's inexcusable.

Catching 3 Star Abberrated Fish

Does anybody know how to catch 3 star abberated fish such as the bloodskin shark? I have tried using the tranquilizer sniper, reloaded the dives again and again but always ended up shooting it to death before they get stunned. Is the upgraded hush dart the better way to go? I am still at Chapter 5.

Snapping Turtle Tips?

Anyone been able to kill the Snapping Turtle? It's my last boss for the game and I keep dying. I know you have to hit the neck and use the harpoon gun to cast onto the hooks avoid attacks, but it's so fast.

Edit: Thanks! These tips helped! I also used the charm that slows down your target a little and the octopus gun damage charm

I need more moolah’

Steam summer sale got me right so I’m just starting the game. I’m about 3/4s through chapter 1 and was wondering how to make money a little easier. I don’t have fish farms yet but I think I get them soon. Do I just keep grinding sharks and the sawtooth fishies or should I be leveling up a specific dish? Any advice appreciated :) (also I heard about a spreadsheet with the best dishes for each stage but couldn’t find a link so if someone has that it would be greatly appreciated)

Did the devs miss a great chance?

Dave getting a relationship with the lizard woman. That would seal the deal for me. I am sure she has the hots for Dave, but nothing happens. :(

Beetle Battles Feel Like A Half-Baked Feature

I don't think beetle battles are terrible because they're difficult. I think they're disappointing because they feel disconnected from the strengths that make the game(s) so enjoyable (despite half of the cast being rented out for advertising space, but I'm gonna tear Mintrocket a new one from their heel to their hairline on that one in another post).

Throughout most of the game, success comes from observation, planning, preparation, and player skill. Beetle battles often feel like the outcome is driven more by guessing than decision-making (tedious guessing, at that), which is disengaging when things are going well, and disengaging and infuriating when they're not.

I frequently couldn't tell why I lost, what I should have done differently, or whether a different decision would have changed the outcome at all. For me, this wasn't a fun diversion. It was an interruption to a game that's usually good about rewarding skill and cleverness.
