Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

We made a bilingual English & Arabic coloring book just in time for Eid Al Adha 🌙 — "Eid Under the Stars"

Eid Mubarak in advance to everyone celebrating next week!

My family just published Eid Under the Stars, a bilingual English & Arabic coloring book for kids ages 3–7. Each spread has a story paragraph in English, the Arabic script, and a romanized pronunciation guide — so even parents who don't read Arabic can read it aloud with their child. There are also vocabulary cards with little illustrated icons to teach words like lantern, dates, and prayer mat.

It's designed so kids color the Eid scenes while parents read the story — think of it as a read-aloud activity book.

Paperback (coloring book): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GZ7782RJ

Kindle (illustrated colored edition): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GZ3HJKJQ

Would love to hear what you think — or if there's a language or festival you wish existed in this format!

Best Shawerma and ME markets in Dearborn?

We'll be stopping in Dearborn for a day and we hear it has some of the best Shawerma in the US. What are the top 2-3 restaurants you guys recommend?

Also, what's the best market to shop for mediterranean goods in terms of quality and prices?!

Thanks.

Possible new spots on the Hill in Allen Park 👀

They want to develop the plot of empty land next to Home Depot on the Hill, so here are some proposals I came up with of businesses I think would do good up there. The generated images include Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Kohl's, Dutch Bros, and Crumbl Cookies. I'm curious what's everyone's thoughts and if you have any other ideas please share!

20+ Library staff are being laid off

Anonymous burner account because I do not want to risk my job.

The part-time staff at the Dearborn Public Libraries are being "temporarily" laid-off because the city cannot afford the renovations that the Mayor wants for the Esper and Bryant Branches. The library has dozens of part time staff, many who have been here for decades and are specialized for their roles. They have been advised that the Rec Center could probably hire them. Managers in the library have only just been alerted to this situation and the part-timers will be formally told if they still have a job next week. The fact that the Mayor and Council got a 20% raise this year makes all of this all the more upsetting.

Is Dearborn and Hamtramck "Controversial"?

Hi/Salaam

So I've been exploring different (diverse) areas in the U.S.

So I came across Dearborn and Hamtramck ...and searching it on Instagram and YouTube ...the places looked really cool

But the comments were horrible and like idk thats the most hatred i've seen against a city or something

So is Dearborn and Hamtramck really that controversial in real life?
