How old is your Metro card??

u/Musical-Parody — 19 hours ago

Got this beauty today

Finally got into the “ONE club” officially 😭😂

So I recently joined an internship in Noida, and I stay in Dwarka… which means daily Dwarka ↔ Noida metro grind has now become part of life 💀

At first I was using the DMRC app virtual card + QR tickets. Then I tried getting the legendary ONE card, but every station guy kept saying:

“Sir stock nahi hai… ab NCMC promote ho raha hai.”

Customer care wale bhi same bol rahe the

Somehow ended up getting the Airtel card instead.

But today, after reading a lot of Reddit posts about this card obsession, I randomly tried again at Palam station… and the ticket counter guy casually handed me this beauty 😍

Bro I can’t even explain why, but I genuinely felt happy holding this card 😂

Daily metro commuters will understand this weird satisfaction.

Paying at Public urinals

What’s your opinion on paying for using urinals at metro stations? Why is one supposed to pay for doing the right thing? Maintainance you say? We’re already paying our taxes right????

First metro schedule on Sunday? Pls don't ignore 🙏🙏

So I have my exams on 24th May which is Sunday. I have to take the metro from Dwarka Mor (Blue line) to Ghevra (Green line) with an exchange at Kirti Nagar for the green line.

I have to reach there quite early so I have to take the metro at 6 AM. Interchange at Kirti Nagar for the Green line at 6:30 Am.

I wanna know if the blue line and green line are open at that time?

Delhi Metro's new Airtel NCMC card feels worse than the old DMRC card

Honestly the new Airtel NCMC cards in Delhi Metro feel like a downgrade compared to the old DMRC smart cards.

Current charges I found:

Prepaid NCMC card issue fee: around 249

Debit NCMC card: around 299-349

Annual maintenance charges (AMC):

Prepaid card: 199/year

Debit card: 299/year

Replacement card charges apply again like buying a new card

ATM withdrawal charges after free limit: 23 + GST

Other problems/demerits:

Higher initial card cost

Recharge sometimes doesn't reflect instantly

Need Airtel ecosystem/apps for some features

Customer support confusion between DMRC and Airtel

Some users reported failed tap entries/exits

Refund/closure process isn't very clear

Extra banking/KYC formalities for some variants

Metro card becoming more

banking product now

Old DMRC cards were simple and reliable without yearly fees

NCMC feature sounds good on paper but many buses/parking systems still don't properly support it

Some people reported balance sync issues after online recharge

Multiple variants create unnecessary confusion (prepaid/ debit/personalised etc.)

Feels like commuters are paying more while getting a more complicated system.

Meanwhile the old DMRC smart cards worked fine without yearly maintenance fees.

If I successfully extract the RFID chip from a metro card, what would be the coolest or weirdest thing to put it into or turn it into?

If I successfully manage to extract the RFID/NFC chip and antenna from a metro card without damaging it, what would be the coolest, funniest, or most cursed thing to embed it into and still use it as a functioning metro card?

Blue Line experience yesterday completely ruined my mood

Yesterday I witnessed one of the most disgusting things on the Delhi Metro.

I was travelling from Botanical Garden to Rajiv Chowk on the Blue Line, standing near the doors. A man next to me was chewing tobacco the entire time, and whenever the metro stopped and the doors opened, he would spit directly onto the platform.

I finally confronted him, and instead of feeling embarrassed, he just smiled at me and casually got off the train.

People talk about cleanliness and civic sense, but incidents like this show why things never improve. Honestly ruined my mood for the rest of the day.

[TW] Got SA’ed at the metro

I (M24) got SA’ed while coming back home from my office.

It happened at the Guru Dronacharya metro security check around 9–10 p.m. When I arrived, it looked like a pretty normal security check. The guy before me just rolled in, and there was only a metal detector probing him, no frisking involved. Then I saw the guard put the metal detector down as soon as I stepped onto the platform. I knew something was wrong, but it all happened too quickly for me to register anything solid.

Then he straight up, WITH BOTH HIS HANDS BTW, groped me in all the inappropriate places you can imagine. I was so furious that I wasn’t quick enough to react; I just let it happen. I wanted to plant my left elbow right in his throat as soon as he went below the belt, but I couldn’t build up the courage to do it.

If this is how ‘security’ looks, what chance do passengers really have?

Fell on the platform at Hauz Khas today

Was trying to catch the metro in a hurry today at Hauz Khas. The doors started closing when I was still about a meter away, but I still tried to get in by putting my shoe between the doors while my body remained outside, my shoe got stuck in between closing doors. The DMRC staff and nearby people noticed immediately, the doors reopened partially, and I managed to pull my shoe out, but I ended up losing balance and falling and the train departed.

Completely my mistake. The staff scolded me a bit and honestly they were right. They were talking with each other about how naive I am. Feeling pretty disappointed with myself after this. Also, I am overthinking after coming home whether this could have turned into a fatal accident or not.

Noida Metro NCMC card

[looking out for buyers] Hello guys, I have this Noida NCMC card only problem. I have with this card that I have. I still have ₹500 in this card as balance, but I am not going to Noida anymore, and I am stuck with ₹500 in this card. What can I do? Can this be used in Delhi or how can I use the balance in this card? It’s like 500 to 600 something around that money, it will go to waste. What should I do? Can I use it somewhere else

A Few Useful Delhi Metro Tips Instead Of Another Card Skin Post

https://preview.redd.it/omqah20bf72h1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62f894d652d66bce3b0907a7aed862f7786c336d

When I first joined this sub, I thought people would share cool metro knowledge and commuter hacks. And honestly, for a while they did. But now half the feed feels like a “show your card skin” exhibition

So I thought why not actually share some useful metro lore for regular commuters.

• Rapido50 Trick

If you travel frequently using both Rapido and Metro, always check metro booking offers inside the Rapido app.

Using promo codes like METRO, you can often get:

  • flat ₹35 off,
  • up to 50% discounts,
  • and sometimes nearly free tickets for new users.

I usually check GrabOn coupons before booking anything because metro offers keep changing.

• The 4n-2 / 4n-1 Seat Formula

This sounds nerdy but trust me, it works surprisingly well.

Each metro coach has 4 doors.

The leftmost and rightmost doors usually give you lower chances of finding seats because the nearby seats are often reserved for:

  • senior citizens,
  • disabled passengers,
  • ladies.

But if you enter from the 2nd or 3rd door, you get visibility on both sides of the coach, increasing your chances of grabbing a seat quickly.

Now here’s the fun part:

There are:

  • 4 doors per coach
  • 8 coaches per train

Meaning:

>32 platform gate positions.

Many stations actually number these gates from 1–32.

If your coach number is n, then the ideal boarding gates are:

(4n − 2) and (4n − 1)

Example:

  • Coach number = 4
  • Best boarding gates:
    • 14
    • 15

Those usually align with the 2nd and 3rd doors of that coach.

If you don’t know coach numbering:

  • avoid gates that are multiples of 4
  • and avoid gates that are exactly +1 after a multiple of 4.

This trick works even better during terminated trains when empty seats disappear in seconds.

Elite commuter knowledge

If doors open on the left side, entering from the 3rd gate in moving direction often gives you access to the corner seat near the glass panel.

Perfect place to lean and accidentally sleep through half the Yellow Line.

• Hauz Khas “Barricade Skip”

When changing from Magenta → Yellow Line at Hauz Khas, there’s a long guided walkway filled with shops and barricades.

Sometimes near the lower turn, the barricades shift slightly and leave a small gap.

That shortcut gets you to the platform noticeably faster.

Of course, as responsible citizens, we definitely always follow the official path 🙂💀

• Sunday Metro Timing

A lot of people don’t know this:

On Sundays, metro services start later than usual.

Instead of around 5–6 AM, many lines begin closer to 7 AM because of Sunday/public holiday schedules.

I almost missed a train once because of this.

• Ways To Buy Metro Tickets

You can travel using:

1. Physical QR tickets

  • from ticket counters
  • or TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines)

2. Metro cards

  • old blue DMRC cards
  • Metro ONE cards

3. Mobile QR tickets

  • Paytm
  • PhonePe
  • DMRC apps
  • WhatsApp chatbot

4. Virtual smart cards

  • through the DMRC Sarthi app

• Why Metro Cards Are Still The Best

Physical cards are still the smoothest option because:

  • tap and enter,
  • no QR scanner issues,
  • 10% discount,
  • quick recharge via UPI.

You can top up using:

  • UPI apps,
  • dmrcsmartcard.com,
  • AVMs (Add Value Machines).

• Virtual Cards Are Good… But

The Sarthi virtual card also gives the 10% discount, which is great.

But QR scanners at some stations still feel inconsistent.

DMRC is replacing older scanners slowly, but until then, physical cards still feel more reliable.

• Best Place To Stand

One underrated metro skill is knowing where to stand.

On the Yellow Line:

  • above-ground stations usually open doors on the left
  • underground stations mostly open on the right

Except:

  • Central Secretariat

because that station likes breaking patterns

Also:

  • the Yellow Line goes underground after Qutub Minar
  • and comes back above ground near Vishwavidyalaya.

Experienced commuters often lean near closing doors for support during long rides.

Not officially recommended… but every regular commuter has seen it happen.

• Metro Really Is Delhi’s Lifeline

Between August and September 2024, DMRC broke its own passenger record 17 TIMES.

That’s genuinely insane.

Then on:

  • 18 Nov 2024 → ~78 lakh passenger journeys
  • Raksha Bandhan 2025 → ~81 lakh journeys

Which became an all-time record.

DMRC even added:

>455 extra trips

during the Rakhi rush.

That’s when you realize how deeply Delhi depends on metro now.

It’s one of those systems people take for granted… until it stops for 10 minutes and the whole city starts panicking.

• Lost Or Broken Metro Card 💔

If your DMRC card breaks or gets lost:

  • go to the recharge/customer care counter
  • provide:
    • card number
    • valid government ID
    • approximate balance amount

After verification:

  • they’ll give you a form
  • keep the acknowledgement slip safely

The remaining balance usually gets refunded later

How does the Rajiv Chowk Station Burger King work?!

Like usually when you go to a Burger King you are supposed to make an order and then 'Sir 5 min wait kijiye order prepare ho jayega 😃'

But this doesn't happen here.....

Last time I came here, I gave the order, took that bill thingy and sat waiting for my Burger. Apparently you join a different line where you give that bill for the order 😭 khud aage pass kr dete why am I supposed to do this extra step. 10 min wait krta rha tb ye pta chla. Jaake kaha ki order kyu nhi aya itni der se, and she said 'Sir ye to pda h apka order'...... ic

This time I knew I was directly to join the other line. I gave the bill in the other line, she took a look at it, and kept it back. I though I have to take the bill back as she has seen the order and will assemble it now. Turns out where she kept my bill WAS my order 😭😭 wo thaali pehele se hi tyaar thi. Meine bill utha liya and she was like 'Sir order lo khade kya ho yha' brthr 😭

What happens in the backroom ⁉️

How to contact Station Manager??

I need to contact the station manager of Huda City Centre as soon as possible. I am sick of this stupid Airtel card and the fact that it is complete and utter shit. I want a One card and they keep saying they don't have any.

They keep making me pay full price instead of the discounted price that I should get from the card if the card doesn't scan at a particular location properly. I am done with this shit. I am done paying 500 extra each month for something that is not my fault but DMRC's fault for having bad machines.
