Dell Precision 7670 powers on but won’t boot / no Dell logo after recovery and diagnostic error loop

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell Precision 7670 laptop and I’m trying to understand what kind of issue this could be.
At first, the laptop showed a Windows Recovery screen with:
Error code: 0xc0000428
“The digital signature for this file couldn’t be verified.”
After that, I ran Dell pre-boot diagnostics and it showed:
Memory errors detected. Limit exceeded. Additional errors will not be healed.
Error code: 2000-0122
Now the laptop does not boot normally. It powers on partially: the keyboard backlight turns on, and the LCD/screen test passes, so the screen itself seems to work. But it does not reach the Dell logo and does not boot into Windows.

Has anyone seen this type of issue on a Dell Precision laptop? What hardware problem does this usually point to? Could this be something repairable like a replaceable component, or does it usually require a motherboard replacement?

Also, since this is a company laptop and I have important data on the SSD, should I be worried about data loss, or is the storage likely separate from this kind of boot failure? Thanks in advance.

Better CPU Cooling for Inspiron 3020

My CPU temps have been rising now to about 75-85 c while gaming, will spike higher. Slightly less if I take the side off the case. Utilization always below 50 percent. Tried re-paste and a new fan. No help. I was thinking a heat sink with a copper core might help but can't find one. I believe the mount pattern is a LGA 1700. Any suggestions.

7420 vs 5420

Hi everyone,

I am buying a refurbished laptop but I can't decide between these 2 options

  1. Latitude 5420 | Intel i-5 1145G7 | 36GB Ram | 1TB SSD €400
  2. Latitude 7420 | Intel i-7 1185G7 | 16GB Ram | 512GB SSD €365

Edit - Realised I should probably add what I need it for, which is school work, sorting photos and maybe some light gaming.

Cannot Access “New” Computer

Hello, I have recently come into possession of a barely used Alienware Aurora R8 from a buddy who has moved back to his homeland (who I cannot contact in any way anymore). It’s in fantastic condition from the inside out for general cleanliness reference aswell, if that means anything haha!

But the issue im currently facing with it, is the complete lack of access im finding. First thing i tried was the handy “hold shift and click restart” on the windows login screen to enter WRE and reset from there with a factory wipe. This resulted in the computer just restarting like normal whether i held left or right shift.

Second thing I attempted from here was forcing it into WRE by force resetting my PC on load up. This didnt seem possible because it was fast booting directly to windows login, where I had no window to properly force the shutdown on startup.

After this point I was getting nervous and decided to attempt accessing WRE through a bootable USB drive, so I quickly downloaded a copy onto a fresh drive, only to come to find out that I cannot even enter BIOS with f2 or Boot Mode with f12, because the computer is already skipping all the startup steps and directly booting windows. A few times on bootup when spamming f12, it wouldnt even loadup windows, almost like it was attempting to start the boot menu but couldnt.

So all in all im currently locked out of the account/computer itself, WRE is not booting from any possible source, and I cannot enter Boot Menu or BIOS to diagnose the problem directly.

My question is what can I even attempt at this point? Any “it magic” i need to know about to get over this perfect mix of hurdles?

Incoming College Student

Hey everyone,
I’m starting Mechanical Engineering this fall and I’m trying to decide between two laptops before classes begin. I’ll be using SolidWorks, MATLAB, ANSYS, and the usual engineering software over the next few years.

Option 1: Dell XPS 16 (DA16250) — $2,500
Intel Core Ultra 7 255H
RTX 5060
32 GB RAM
1 TB SSD

Option 2: ASUS Zephyrus G16 — $2,800
Intel Core Ultra 9
RTX 5070 Ti 12 GB
32 GB RAM
1 TB SSD

I’ve seen the XPS in person and I really like the size, build quality, and more professional look. The G16 seems to offer significantly better performance for only about $300 more, but I’m not sure if that extra GPU power will actually matter for a mechanical engineering student. I really love how the XPS looks and feels but I’m discouraged by all the negative posts I’ve seen.

My priorities are:
Reliability for 4+ years
Solid battery life for classes
Good thermals/noise
Enough performance for CAD, simulations, and some gaming on the side

Thank you for your help.

Considering an egpu, help?

Unfortunately I do not make money or control much of my finances. I am considering for my dell insprion 14 with an I7 155h and 16gb 6400 ram. I don't have an dgpu and rely on my igpu which isn't cutting it. I plan to get a raedon rx9060xt with 16gb of gddr6 vram. As this'll last me a while, into my next 1 or 2 amd laptops.

I plan to get a aoostar ag03 cage which will fit perfectly on my desk as well as coming with an 800watt PSU, I plan on using thunderbolt 4 and in the future 5. I don't care about the bit of latency as all I play is KSP, Ravenfield, and some other low intensity games. I do live in a city with power flickers, will this be a concern? I'm a little concerned about if it could crash my laptop.

Since this will ocosionaly be moved around, should I disable Igpu in BIOS or in device manager?

Overall this'll run me between 650-750 dollars total for a:

90 watt dell laptop charger (barrel plug as I only have in usbc port) $25usd

Raedon 9060xt 16gb $350-450

Aoostar Ag03 $275

this is way cheaper than getting a new laptop or a pc. Tbh I haven't even let this thing breathe as it's getting chocked on every time I run a game. Pls help

Is a Dell Latitude 7430 with i7-1265U, 32GB RAM and 66% battery health worth C$500? on Dell

I’m considering buying a used Dell Latitude 7430 for C$500. The specifications are:
Intel Core i7-1265U
32GB RAM
512GB NVMe SSD
14-inch FHD display
Windows 11 Pro
Original Dell charger included
The battery report shows:
Design capacity: 58,003 mWh
Full-charge capacity: 38,030 mWh
Approximately 66% battery health

I’ll mainly use it for a project-management contractor role involving Power BI, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Teams and occasional SAP data pulls. I’ll work from home four days per week and go into the office once per week.
The seller originally wanted C$600 but agreed to C$500. Is this a good deal despite the battery wear? How reliable is the Latitude 7430, and are there any common problems I should check before buying?

Did I just accidentally fried my motherboard?

I disassembled my Dell Latitude 5300 to clean the fan, making sure to disconnect the battery before unplugging the fan itself. After putting everything back together, the laptop wouldn't turn on. I opened it up again and realized I hadn't plugged the fan in, and the battery cable wasn't fully seated. Even after reconnecting both, the machine still won't power on at all—not even after reseating the RAM, performing a hard reset, or trying to run it on the charger with the battery disconnected. Could I have fried the motherboard because the power cable wasn't connected properly?

Dell laptop shows "No Bootable Device" during clean Windows 11 installation

Hi everyone,

I'm reinstalling Windows 11 on my Dell laptop using a USB created with the official Microsoft Media Creation Tool.

Before reinstalling, Windows was working normally. I deleted all partitions and reached the screen where the SSD appeared as Disk 0 Unallocated Space (238.5 GB). The SSD was detected correctly.

However, after clicking Next (or around the partition creation stage), the installation suddenly failed, and after rebooting the laptop showed "No Bootable Device Found."

I ran Dell ePSA diagnostics, and the Hard Drive test passed, so the SSD is still detected by BIOS/diagnostics.

I then tried disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS. Surprisingly, after doing that, the Windows installation continued normally and reached the "Installing Windows" stage.

Things I've tried:

Recreated the Windows installation USB using the latest Media Creation Tool.

BIOS still detects the drive.

Windows Setup initially detects the SSD as unallocated space.

Disabled Secure Boot, which allowed the installation to proceed.

Has anyone experienced this? Could this indicate a failing SSD even though diagnostics pass, or is it more likely a BIOS/Secure Boot or storage controller issue.

Is it safe to continue the installation with Secure Boot disabled, and can I simply re-enable Secure Boot after Windows finishes installing?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Crucial vs WD SSD for my Inspiron 15 - Any real difference

Hi all - Adding a 2TB SSD to my Inspiron 15 to increase overall storage. It's used for general stuff like web surfing, etc., not gaming or heavy AI. Other than the $20 price difference, is there any significant difference between these two? Is this a "Chevy vs. Ford" situation or is one brand considered better? I've never installed an SSD (or anything else internal to my laptop), and I want this installation to be "one and done." Plus, I want the card to be reliable. I've seen some older posts on the Crucial vs WD discussion, but nothing recent. I know that Micron is discontinuing the Crucial line, so maybe that is why the discount? Thanks in advance.

Dell Customer Cares has strung me along for weeks now

I have an active warranty with Dell and sent my laptop to them for repair of it's thermal issues. They tried getting more money from me by sending me an estimate for other issues they claim were not covered by the warranty which I declined. I am not interested in paying them yet more money for optional repairs.

As a result they have kept my Alienware laptop and have apparently not done any of the repairs. I have been in touch with them, but they just assure me that they are "monitoring the situation" or (better yet) "we've been trying to reach you unsuccessfully."

I have been a Dell customer for about 30 years. This is seriously making me reconsider my relationship with Dell.
