Increasing Number of Candidates to Rank in Elections Amendment

Purpose and intent

Due to our voting system, legislative elections have repeatedly had similar results where a majority of the seats get won by a single voting bloc, with one opposition bloc being in control of the rest of the seats, essentially making the election only between their endorsed candidates. This has severely decreased the competition in legislative elections and has led to "third parties" dying out. This amendment seeks to increase the amount of candidates one can rank in elections, to try to help counter this.

Provisions

The following part of the constitution of the Democracy of Reddit:

Votes shall be in descending order of popularity, with the amount of preference choices being whatever amount is enough to give a majority in Parliament.

Shall be replaced with:

Votes shall be in descending order of popularity, with the amount of preference choices being whatever amount is enough to give a 2/3rds majority in Parliament.

Thicker Than Water: The Origin of The Kin of The Dwarves (Part 1?)

Proem and Ancestral Invocation

Sing with me, you Ancestors, for you who reside in the songs are the most suited to bring remembrance to the days our Kin was carved from stone by the ancient forces.

Aid me in this my composition, so that we shall vindicate the ignoble insult cast upon us by the lies spewed by nefarious foes; dispel their illusion to the eyes of Man and every other creature of Law.

Of the Hominid Question

It is falsely sustained by the Elven and Mannling scholars that the Kin is part of their same family. It is however the weak plank of the evolutionary tree theorised by an elf, who sought to paint the dwarves as inferior creatures, to support their claim.

I will not address the nature of the relations between Mans and Elves, for their bloodlines’ convergence is not a matter of my knowledge or interest. Instead, I will deftly explain how the current tree accepted by the scientific community is bigoted pseudoscience that deserves condemnation.

The Dwarf is, in themselves, not a creature of the same origins as Man. The common ancestor we share is further back in millennia than the supposed Homo primogenitor. We Dwarves are to Mans and Elves what a Great Goat would be to the Tumsang Horse and Olenian Deer.

Our bone structure is severely different, not only on a skeletal composition level but also on the very material of bones. Higher levels of mineral salts in our bones and a less porous structure make them heavier and more resilient than the human counterpart- and even more of the elven counterpart, which is more similar to that of the common avian!

Furthermore, our digestive systems and acids are far more potent: what is deadly to humans has been observed to be short of bland or mildly spicy for most dwarves. Eating rocks is a practice that platypuses alone, in nature, I’ve observed doing, and even these curious creatures cannot stomach these pebbles they put in their mouth to chew food; digesting rocks, now that is something only a dwarf can do- albeit a purely stone-based diet is discouraged.

Our respiratory filters are far more advanced than humans, and despite that often exhausting us of breath, it allows us to breath freely in environments contaminated by loads of ashes, dust and powders that would be harmful.

Even something as simple as the skin texture, which we have more porous, draws a significant difference between us and them; our skin more easily disperses heat; and added with the more water-resistant properties of our hair, it also allows sweat to not cling onto our body.

And in matters of hair, it should be noted body hair in dwarves grows EVERYWHERE. It is a common misconception that we dwarves refuse to shave our beard as a cultural habit, but the truth is we do shave! Yes, we keep our beards growing as a constant metre of our long age, but if we did not shave the rest of our bodies would also grow hair. Our patterns of growth are closer to large felines rather than the Homo.

On the basis of these differences, I stay certain that Dwarves and Elves are not the same animal family!

Notice of Retirement

Good evening all,

Section I. Purpose and Intent

I admit, the “Be nice to everyone including girls act” doesn’t really do anything of substance, and so now it is time for a serious proposal that actually does. While we need to of course listen to unheard or unrepresented voices, we need to do so in a way that balances a fair system with promoting these voices. We subscribe to the idea that women are a very small chunk of this server, and that in the past events have caused a spread of sexism and specific individuals leaving due to discrimination, and so we must promote females to office so that we may hear these voices, while also agreeing to the idea that any individual, regardless of gender, has to be elected fairly, as by their own beliefs. This bill attempts to rectify that, keeping a balance of these two things. 

Section II. Definitions

  • “Girl/Woman/Female”: anyone who says they are a girl, particularly if they have filled out the census and claimed to be a girl.

 

Section III. Provisions

  1. Any Registered Party within the DOR is required to have one female candidate for the legislative elections for every 6 candidates they propose. If a party sends out 6, one of them must be female; if they send out 12, 2 of them must be female; etc.
  2. This rule does not apply to Unregistered Parties, as they do not have enough members to clear the minimum requirement regardless.
  3. This rule does not apply if a party does have women in it, and they choose not to run voluntarily, leaving no other women left. All women in a party must be asked in this case, and if they all decline, their refusal must be posted alongside the party candidate list post.
  4. No restrictions are to be made to the General Legislative Election within this bill, all candidates are up to the will of the electorate.

Section IV. Enforcement

The PM or President shall have the legal requirement and obligation to enforce these rulings.

Section V. Implementation and Oversight

a. This bill shall take effect immediately upon passage by Parliament. b. The Prime Minister shall ensure its implementation and report any noncompliance to the Legislature within fourteen (14) days.

Section VI. Amendments and Repeal

a. This Act may be amended by a simple majority vote of Parliament and approval by the President. b. Any previous acts or resolutions in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Section VII. Effective Date

This Act shall take effect immediately upon passage by Parliament and approval by the President.

The SEF aids the strikes! With explosions!!

During the night, large numbers of SEF militants mobilised for two simultaneous operations:

The first: Members planted and detonated bombs in 3 strike-breaking factories, completely destroying them. Scabs cannot be allowed to jeopardize the strike.

The second: The organisation identified the striking workers who are struggling hardest with making ends meet. They were delivered care packages of food, basic medical supplies, and some anarchist pro-strike propaganda. These workers are the lifeblood of our movement, they're putting their safety and security on the line and they must not be left to fight alone.

We must show the capitalists and the state that we will not be pushed around, commanded as they see fit. All power comes from the workers and we are finally wrestling it back, do not stop my siblings, this is our time!

A Call to Sanction UoR

The Union of Reddit has sent several foreign observers to our country who have done nothing but insult our great nation. Quoting here:

"You dont just lose to a country thats like 1/10th the size of you if something hasnt gone horribly wrong"

Not only is this incredibly stupid, but it's also an insult by a foreign citizen on our lands. I call upon President Bluitwns and the government to respond in kind by imposing sanctions upon UoR.
