Best Budget Areas to Stay in Destin for Memorial Day Weekend?

Planning a Memorial Day weekend trip to Destin, FL with 2 adults and 4 kids. Looking for recommendations on the best areas to stay with good beach access and preferably less crowded spots.

Our budget is around $100/night, so we’re open to nearby areas outside Destin as well if they’re more affordable. Airbnb, condos, hotels, or family-friendly stays are all appreciated.

Any recommendations or tips for avoiding heavy crowds during Memorial Day weekend would be super helpful!

How is the weather right now?

I checked the app but I want to know how hot 70s-80s feel in Florida right now. Is it summer clothing weather and swimmable?

Destin’s current reality vs reputation from a few years ago

Not vacation planning just looking for a general check on Destin’s current vibe

No one in my group has been to Destin, and admittedly I just learned what it was 20 days ago.

ChatGPT gave high praise and even recommended a great event for August 2023. Only a few years late.

We keep seeing Destin pop up as a spot for a bachelor party, but every post, photo, Reddit thread is outdated or someone selling tourism packages.

Is Destin *still* worth it for a bachelor party in mid-late August?

Just trying to sanity check before booking:

We’re a group of guys in our late 20s/early 30s. We don’t need Vegas-level chaos, but we also don't want to show up and realize we’re the only ones there without a stroller.

More just trying to figure out if it’s still the kind of place where:

- a group of guys can have a genuinely fun social weekend

- there’s a boat/day-drinking scene

- bars have energy at night

- you naturally meet other groups / people instead of

We’re looking at basically any weekend in August (likely end of August), so also curious if there’s a noticeable drop-off in crowd/energy by then.

**Would especially appreciate brutally honest answers**

Where to stay?

Need some advice from Destin pros. We’re planning a family trip this summer and trying to figure out the best area to stay.
Family of 6:

2 teenagers
11-year-old
2-year-old toddler

Biggest thing for us is being close/easy access to the beach because of the little one. We’d also like somewhere family-friendly with pools, restaurants nearby, and stuff for the older kids to do too.

Thanks!

Should I rent a car?

Is it worth renting a car for 4night trip in July? or would it be better to ride share? I’ve never been to Destin I plan to visit the beach boardwalk and water park. Of course restaurants.

Avoid Crystal Villas #10A by Southern Vacation Rentals

Hello everyone, I just finished staying at Crystal Villas unit #10A through Southern Vacation Rentals and was thoroughly disgusted with our condo. I was just wanting to place this on r/Destin to make sure that if anybody considers this unit, to run the other way. Upon arrival the entire condo was filthy with dirt, crumbs, and other things on the floors, carpet, counter tops, as well as other surfaces. After we arrived my wife and I had to clean the entire unit ourselves, taking hours, because SVR wouldn’t do it in a timely manner. The final straw is on the last day we figured out mouse droppings were on the floor. We have tried to get a partial refund for our stay but now are having to do it through our credit card company since SVR is not cooperating.

Thanks for reading. Just trying to keep future beach goers informed.

Beach gear

Hey everyone. My family is flying to Destin late July for 8 days. Unfortunately we are flying allegiant and are limited in the luggage we can bring. Our condo doesn’t supply beach towels/gear.
Where is the best place to buy this stuff? We will likely have to leave it all behind so not looking for anything expensive.
Does the local Walmart usually have this stuff in stock throughout the season or do you find they are constantly running low? Do they tend to price gouge during the high season? Any other suggestions on where to pick up some decent but not too expensive stuff? Staying at SanDestin if that matters…Thanks!

What caused this bruise/irritation?

Was at princess beach in Destin this past Saturday, swam in water felt a burning/didn’t hurt enough to get out but I knew something may have bit/stung me. I got out and had a raised red mark with a bruise around it. Not itchy/just raised and burned. Now almost a week later it looks like this. Any idea what this is? I’ve goggled and maybe sea lice/jellyfish? The bruising is what’s weird to me 😭 We live in Atl and come to the gulf every year and this has never happened to me. Just curious what it is at this point!

Night golf in/around Destin?

I'll be visiting Destin with my wife, parents and son in the coming days. Considering trying to sneak some golf in while i'm there.

Are there any par 3 or courses that are lit, to allow for night play?

Don't think I can find the time for a full 18.
