Watched the wrong Dirk Gently

Watched the wrong Dirk Gently

Basically I watched the 2010 - Dirk Gently(UK) and not the 2016 version.

I heard about Dirk Gently from a YT short, showcasing a “zombie looking” woman killing people. It seemed interesting so I went in blind.

Just finished the last episode of the UK version and was super confused because the whole tone & look of the show seemed different compared to the clip I watched.

Looked it up and realized that I watched the wrong show.

Still it was a great watch and would definitely recommend it.

About to start the 2016 - Dirk Gently(US), hope it’s just as good.

Finished Rereading DGHDA, Eager To Start "... Teatime"

Thanks to your encouragement, I resumed rereading "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" and just finished it. Wow!

I think I need to reread the last two chapters; I don't quite have an understanding of what actually happened and who did what when, or at least make some educated guesses. There's a lot of actions by characters that aren't described, where you have to make assumptions based on resulting reality.

I'm really looking forward to read our copy of "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul", my wife is reading it now.

Could the name Bart be short for Slartibartfast?

Douglas Adams, author of Dirk Gently, also created the character Slartibartfast. The planetary designer who specialized in creating coastlines and famously won an award for designing Norway and its "lovely crinkly edges" (fjords).

Please Encourage Me To Finish Reading The Original Books

In the late 1980's I read the two original novels. I kept dragging them around with me through multiple house moves, but never re-read them, so the storylines disappeared from my memory.

Come 2026, and I finally watched the two seasons of "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" (2016/2017), and I love the show so much! Especially Bart!

So, I dug out my copies of the novels and started re-reading them. I've only gotten as far as Chapter 16 of the first novel, where Richard McDuff is in Dirk Gently's detective office, and they're talking about Schrodinger's Cat.

I'm stalled because I just don't like the original Dirk Gently SO FAR. There's a big difference between the tv series Dirk and the novel Dirk, and not in a way that I like.

So, please encourage me to continue reading! Does Dirk get better as a person? And I'm actually looking forward to the Electric Monk reappearing in the story line.

And please, try to avoid spoilers, but I don't mind some weighted hints.

The Electric Monks podcast meets Aaron Douglas (A.K.A. Gordon Rimmer)

Really enjoyed doing this interview with Aaron, we talked in-depth about a lot of aspects of the character of Gordon and his experience working on the show. A big thanks to Aaron and Michelle for helping to make this happen.
