CANDY APPLE KUSH
Luna’s Wrath x Bad Apple - Sugar Mill Cut
The Candy Apple Kush is the sixth and final entry in Dirty Bird’s Volume 4 Series. A cross between Luna’s Wrath and Bad Apple (Sugar Mill Cut), the Candy Apple Kush represents a step forward for our Brunch-originated genetics, shining in all of the right places:
Plant Morphology + PVI: Overall the Candy Apple Kush is highly impressive in its uniformity and high performance. You’ll notice differences in color, with 75% gaining purples and maroons in both the flower and the foliage, and 25% staying a vibrant green. Some of the green plants will get lavender purple calyxes close to harvest which is especially striking, especially on plants where the foliage stays green. Plants will stretch about 1.2 - 1.5x in the first three weeks of flower. They aren’t leggy at all and they grow very proportionately both vertically and laterally. No staking was required. Leaves are notably minimal in the flower. Across the plant as a whole, the volume of foliage produced is ideal for air flow and light penetration, both indoor and outdoor grows. Flowers are well developed throughout the canopy because very little light is blocked by foliage. Internodal spacing is medium with one phenotype exhibiting shorter, tighter internodal spacing than the other. Terpenes were very consistent overall with sweet, candy apple being dominant.
Flower: Off the charts. Buds are very tight, colorful, and have an extremely high calyx-to-leaf ratio, making this strain easy to manicure and easy to sell. Bracts (calyxes) are knuckly and stack beautifully; their vivid color contrast makes for a visually striking plant. The Bad Apple is dominant in flower morphology with buds that are shaped like fat, bulbous, conical spears.
Terpenes: From berry apple to melon apple to sour apple, a sweet apple terpene profile definitely dominates this cross. The Bad Apple’s underlying rotten funk also comes through on some plants. Terps are pronounced and consistently incredible.
Trichomes: There is so much sugar here. You won’t be disappointed. Trichomes are colorful with tall stalks and medium sized heads.
Flowering Time: 50 days
Overall, the Candy Apple Kush is a strain that screams Cup Winner to us. It performs on a very high level in every measure we have, and that level of quality is consistent whether you pop three seeds or 50 seeds. There’s no doubt that we are excited about this one, and looking forward to seeing how it performs in other gardens both indoor and out.
Anyone have any tips? This is the bushiest plant ive grown, i topped last week and took some lower leaves out. She seems to have 4 main tops at this point. Should i take out more leaves? 2 small fans at full blast. In. A bathroom so i have an exhaust fan but that lowers humidity. I have a tower fan i used for last grow but if its unnecessary id rather have the space. Light is vivosun 400w at 50% currently and about 20” over the top. 70/30 coco feeding athena blended 1x a day at lights on until run off. Ph ≈5.8. Dirty bird genetics sugar rim (freebie maybe tester not sure). Also not sure what day its on, didnt take note kinda just gonna flip to flower on size. Just looking for tips! Tyia
I received this destination wedding photo as a freebie in an order, she popped 4/25 and there has been very slow incremental growth. She looks like a seedling almost 3 weeks after popping.
I’m not sure what to do outside of waiting or pulling it
Mother Earth ground swell is the medium
It’s under appropriate light because the auto that popped a few days before has exploded, where as the DW only has baby serrated leaves.
This was a freebie, but had hopes it would iron itself out with some sunshine.
What did to her?!
Any advice/suggestions? Second grow. Never got to harvest. I’m thinking mix of water, light, and feed issues. To keep it short; Germ direct in soil 03/13. I’m running Maui Pine by Dirty Bird Genetics using Coast of Maine Stonington Blend in 5gal fabric pot. Used about red solo cup worth of CoM Potting Soil. I was being too over cautious and watering with just a spray bottle first 2 weeks. Using filtered fridge GE tap water, letting evaporate for 24hrs prior to use using about 1/2 gal gooseneck can. About 1gal of water whenever it feels light and dry, going in circles around plant outwards. Also had light being too close at some points I believe. Tent size 32x32x63inches. Temp and humidity gets no higher than 78F and 71RH. Typically RH low 60’s. Light defoliation so far for anything that was really yellowed and dead. Only a couple leafs. Yesterday morning I fed with 1/4 cup CoM Stonington Blend Food and 1 cup of CoM Earthworm Castings and a little shy of a gallon of water. Also just added the trellis net yesterday. No other training done yet besides spreading canopy. I have sticky fly traps setup through, including one in fabric pot top layer
