Finally unpacked my collection... I'm still missing one or two, but I promise I have all the paperbacks and the ultimate edition somewhere. I think I recently took it on a trip so it's probably buried in my car.

In order of my favorite parts of the collection.

Signed #34 Oh no Not Again trading card

Signed Hexagonal Phase Ep 5 script (bottom right)

The laser disc

The 2 VHS Tape boxed set

The live in concert casette tape

The original radio scripts book

The illustrated Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (big silver thing on the left)

A complete boxed set with registration cards and all for Starship Titanic (I did open an unopened copy, get over it I needed to know)

42 Douglas Adams by Kevin Jon Davies

Dirk Gently and Hitchhikers Comics (not complete and I don't have an index yet see below)

God there's an awful lot in that picture.

In the yellow binder and in the card boxes behind the signed #34 card are my sorted collection of the cards and the overflow extras. If you are a collector and are missing something message me!

All of this is to say I'm a big fan and while I've posted bits and pieces before of this collection, this is more of less all of what I have now.

Edit: oh yeah and my wife one year ordered me a custom towel that is hanging on the bookshelf that has the text of the towel passage printed on it.

Additional edit: Two books that may not initially make sense. The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins was Douglas' favorite book. Wizards of Odd actually contains the 'Young Zaphod Plays it Safe' short story

Additional Additional Edit: at some point (idk when) all of this will be more thoroughly cataloged so you can browse through it in better detail, step 1 was getting it out of the storage box and on a shelf where it can be enjoyed again.

Additional additional... Well you get it Edit:

Things I'm looking for:

Infocom Game in the Box

The rest of the comics I'm missing

Starship Titanic the book

Hardcover copies of the individual Hitchikers books (again I have paperbacks and the ultimate edition) and that other thing...

Meaning of Liff and Deeper Meaning (I have digital copies but it's not the same and I can't set it on the shelf)

Am I missing anything else???

Curious about his daily life & routines

I’ve read I’m Your Man by Sylvie Simmons but I still wish I knew more about the mundane details of Leonard’s life: what he ate for breakfast, whether he wrote at home or in cafes, how he decorated his house.

Just a little tattoo that I have to redo on myself every year or so.

Hand tattoos wear off fast. I started tattooing this on myself since around COVID, sometimes with stick and poke, sometimes with a tattoo gun. Went through some tough shit the last month or so and noticed it needed a stick and poke refresh.

Sirius Cybernetics and current AI

Has anyone else noticed how close to perfectly Douglas predicted how AI is and is used today? Sycophantic, unhelpful, shoehorned into things that don’t need it (like doors, elevators or drinks dispensers), easily exploitable (i.e. Colin the security robot), and more often than not, the wrong tool for the job.

I keep saying a lot of the current excitement is because we finally got computers to understand (most of the time) instructions in natural language like we always imagined in scifi. And I think Adams imagined the downsides other authors didn’t. Not a Star Trek utopia, not a Dune civilization ending event, just a constant inescapable irritation.

Sirius was meant as a parody of tech companies of the day (late 70s early 80s) but boy do some things stay the same

I don’t know if, were he alive today, would he have written something poignant, relevant and funny, or if he’d rather be dead, so he could roll in his grave.

Fan made HHGTTG

I made a HHGTTG for fun. Uses an LLM to answer your questions in almost, but not quite, entirely unlike
the guides voice. I put in some Easter eggs from the books. Thought people would enjoy talking to the guide.

Have I been getting the pronunciation of 'Zaphod' wrong the whole time?

Just got through book 1 with Stephen Fry's narration. Is it possible he's mispronouncing 'Zaphod' as 'Zayphod'...I'm pretty sure hearing it like this at any point would have set alarm bells rings, but AFAIK it's always been Zaphod.

Did Stephen Fry have access that mere mortals didn't, is he wrong, what's going on?
